Hello, and welcome to Superior Times Resort and Campground!
We would like to take a moment and introduce ourselves. Our names are Tom and Heather Holmstrom. We were married in 2016 and have four children as part of our blended family. We are both originally from the Upper Peninsula. Superior Times Resort and Campground was the result of us wanting to do something “outside of the box” that would allow us to raise our family and show them there is more out there than the traditional path. We also wanted showcase our love and respect for the beauty of the Upper Peninsula; the area that many refer to as “God’s Country.”
In December of 2016, we mistakenly pulled into the driveway of this property. At that time, it was known as Coleman’s Paradise Resort. There was a For Sale sign marking the property. We both knew at that point our fate was sealed to become this property’s new owners. We learned that this property had been a family vacation destination for nearly 100 years. We could only imagine the special memories that had been made here over the years! We wanted to become a part of that deep history.
Through the many years of the resort’s history, the owners had changed and the cabins were showing true signs of their age. We knew there was A LOT of work that simply had to be done. On a wing and prayer, we somehow made this great resort ours. In April of 2017, we opened what we named Superior Times Resort and Campground. We pulled up or sleeves and went to work!
Thank you for choosing us and allowing us to be part of the memories that you create here. We know that you work hard for your own money, as we do. Knowing that you chose our resort to support, means a lot to our Superior Times and Resort family team. We truly appreciate your loyalty and give special thanks to our returning customers. Only 30 minutes east of Grand Rapids, this property was established as a Youth Camp for 15 years is now a private event venue and campground, so it has nice amenities like FULL restrooms, a picnic shelter, and even a few small cabins that can be rented.
Cabins ARE SMOKE FREE and may not be used as kennels so please keep pets off furnature and don't leave them inside when you are gone. You must bring your own queen sheet set. Steam cleaning the mattress will be an extra charge.
Swimming beach is available in Lowell a few miles away.
Fishing rivers and lakes are also in the area. (live bait in Saranac)

Bear Tree Homestead is nestled among the cliffs and ravines which drains the south face of Hogback Mountain located in Marquette Township Michigan.
Hogback Mountain is one of the larger rock formations in the Huron Range, a surprisingly rugged, and diverse region of low mountains carved by glaciers.
Each cabin is hand-built of log and stone using traditional Scandinavian building tools and techniques. The cabins have access to the pond, use of the canoe, a private fire pit, picnic table, charcoal grill and privy. Inside the cabins is a functional kitchen with dishes, flatware, pots and pans, so you can prepare meals onsite. Cabins also have table and chairs as well soft chairs/sofa sitting area, bookshelves with a variety of books, board games and puzzles, and covered porch in case of rain.
Our buildings, gardens, and pastures are integrated into the forested landscape and are not your typical homestead. Enjoy the peaceful surroundings, collect fresh eggs (when they are laying), lay in the hammock, listen to the sounds of nature and the barnyard or take an adventure hike, bike ride, snowshoe, or ski right out the door.
One of the most wonderful things we have to offer is the accessibility to thousands of protected acres surrounding us and the trails that bisect them. The property is on the North Country Trail, just over a Noquemanon Trail Network Forestville trailhead where access to year round recreation awaits. Hogback Mountain is just up the trail from the cabin with spectacular views of forest, mountains and lake superior.
We are located 8 miles from downtown Marquette in Michigan's Upper Peninsula where there are many great restaurants, shops, and brewpubs.
However, once you drive into Bear Tree Homestead and settle in you will not want to leave.

Your host property is 13 acres between the Yellow Dog River, and Bear Lake, with frontage on both. The Yellow Dog River is a legendary trout stream, and many artists have found that the river satisfies their need for the wild. There are two cabin sites available, One overlooking Bear Lake with sunset views, and the other a cabin that was moved to the property in 1999 to preserve it.
Both sites share amenities such as the outhouse, communal fire pit and water, but the cabins are not in close proximity so everyone has their privacy. They are both rustic cabins having no running water, or electricity. A futon with mattress cover is provided in each cabin along with a table and chairs. See the individual site descriptions for more details.
We are 20 miles (app) north of Marquette, which is my home town. It is a destination for bikers, skiiers, and outdoor rec folk! There are so many things to see and do in Marquette, so make sure to plan enough time to check out the town! Also, just six miles to our north is historic Big Bay. A lumber town back in the day, it is full of history. Check out the Thunder Bay Inn, where parts of Anatomy of a Murder, starring Jimmy Stewart and Lee Remick were filmed. Don't miss going to the Lumberjack to see where the actual murder took place, either! You will find good eats and perhaps even some live music at either establishment. You'll also find everything you need in the way of groceries, and gas at Drury's General Store, where there's also a laundromat. Burns landing just north of the marina has the historic Burns family home renovated in a park setting, and a public beach access to mighty Lake Superior. This park has picnic tables and grills, and even a handicap accessible outhouse and trail to the lake.
Yellow Dog falls is a short drive on Co. Road 510, and on the way be sure to climb Thomas Rock overlook. There are new bike trails if you're into that as well! Stay awhile. You'll be glad you did!
We strive to offer peace and serenity to our guests, and love to share these woods with those needing tranquility and respite from a busy world. In this sensitive environmental area, we have only two sites to keep traffic down, enhance our visitors experience, and to protect the wildlife here.

This 80 acre plot,family-owned or almost a century and has not been cut in that time, many trees are mature.
The south half s home to 8 charcoal kilns which employed a community prior to ownership. The mountain is approximately 1.8 billion years old.

This campground has 2 tent sites at the western base of Hogback Mountain.
Site 1, The Falls Site, is located on a spring fed stream.
The hike from parking to tent site is 1/4 mile on a well-marked hilly path.
Campers can park at the main property on County Road HD or on the Garden Road, and will need to pack supplies to their site.
Site 2, The Garden Site, is 50 feet from the stream and campers can drive to and park their vehicles at the site.
Site 3, Mountain View Cabin, is a century old hunting cabin with 2 cots on the main floor and 2 singles in the loft. Site 3 includes an outhouse and sauna.
All sites have a picnic table, firepit and outhouse.
Campers are responsible for removal of all other waste.
The 2-foot wide stream provides water for washing, but is not considered potable, and use of filters or boiling water is recommended.
These isolated sites are beautiful and rustic and nestled in the midst of the Noquemanon Trail Network (cross country skiing and mountain biking) and North Country Trails and are approximately 2 miles from Lake Superior, Harlow Lake and Dead River.
4 kayaks/paddles/life vests and a 12 foot boat are available for camper use. First come, first serve. You transport.

Weekend Trip to Lost Nations Cowboy Town And Cabins
Cowboy Town is a unique experience full of charm! The cabins are awesome, the theme decor in the whole place is amazing. The beds are cozy, the outdoor shower was cool, and you cant beat a flush toilet when it comes to camping! Unfortunately we had some strong storms and alot of rain during our stay. Id love to come back and get into the trails and spend more time around the fire. Holly is a great host and has a one of a kind place.

The land is beautiful and the cabin was very cozy. The rustic setup was nice for enjoying the silence and bird songs. Right next to two bodies of water, the Yellow Dog River great for wading and the hosts provide kayaks and a canoe on Bear Lake for free! Amenities (propane, firewood) reasonably priced. Great location with hiking opportunities around, our favorites were Yellow Dog Falls and Thomas Rock. Big bay is closeby town with a great ice cream parlor and an extensive beach on Lake Superior with views of the cliffs to the west. The host is very kind and respectful and has a lot of knowledge about the land and nearby destinations. Access road is driveable for most cars, no offroad/4x4 needed. Would absolutely recommend for anyone wanting a relaxing stay in the woods.

We had an amazing stay at Lil Cabin! Ed was an incredible host—friendly, welcoming, and quick to help with anything we needed. The cabin was clean, comfortable, and had everything we could have asked for. It was very accommodating both inside and outside, making it the perfect place to relax and unwind. You can tell a lot of care has gone into the property. This was by far our favorite stay yet, and we can’t wait to come back. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway!

Wonderfully placed in the woods with everything you need. The only thing I would do differently is to spray something for mosquitoes other than that it was a perfect stay and I was pleasantly surprised by the outhouse. It was relatively clean and not bad ant all, very impressed with my stay. Will definitely come back! Rick was very nice and hospitable…

We had a great time here! The cabin was well stocked and kept us warm all night. It was far enough from Rick’s house that it still felt very private, but we knew he was accessible if we needed anything. He was a great host, and we plan to come back again!

Orchard cabin is a beautiful cabin in the woods surrounded by sounds and smells only nature can provide. So serene, so inviting; the inside of the cabin was thoughtfully laid out to provide most of the amenities of home, with unique old world touches. My crew and I had a great time playing cards against humanity and Pictionary until the late hours of the night both nights we were there. We were able to experience the sauna during our stay and it felt great. I’ve been getting over a cold so this helped so much. Jill was a great host and always answered my messages. I would highly recommend orchard cabin or any of the other cabins/campsites she hosts. You will enjoy it!

3 nights at Dalton Traders Tents RV's Cabins
Two of us stayed in the Lil Cabin. The cabin feels very private. I barely saw Ed or the other people staying on the property and I didn't see them at all from the actual cabin. The beds are more comfortable than you would expect for folding beds. He provided plenty of water. The port a potty was the nicest I've ever been in. It's still a port a potty but it was clean and had good toilet paper. The shower is freezing cold of course but it gets the job done.
I would stay here again if I was in the area. It's a good homebase for other adventures and a good spot for a chill weekend of solitude

The landscape was really pretty, there were trails to hike. There was some fun decorative humor around the site:). There were lots of this and that to make for the perfect off grid experience.

Susan was very helpful and kind. The Riverbend cabin was lovely with counter space to help food prep. Close to the pit toilet. The river is refreshing and the property is peaceful. I loved hearing the birds chirp all day.
