The property was originally owned by a family name Nichols (thus the name of the lake). It was handed down to the sons who each owned half the property. The driveway down the middle of property that leads to the lake was originally a fence line that divided the two pieces of property. The brothers did not get along and their are several stories of their warring on how to maintain the property.My parents bought this piece of property in 1964 and created a camp called "Lakeside Farm Camp", a small all boys camp. The camp has gone through several changes since then but has always been owned by the Edwards family. In 1984 the name was changed to "Cedar Lodge" a coed camp that specializes in English horseback riding and offering high level general camp activities. Enjoy the peace and quiet of our totally private fresh water lake. Take your boat out for a day of fishing or just chill next to the fire. Sites are approximately 50 feet from each other. Only 30 minutes east of Grand Rapids, this property was established as a Youth Camp for 15 years is now a private event venue and campground, so it has nice amenities like FULL restrooms, a picnic shelter, and even a few small cabins that can be rented.
Cabins ARE SMOKE FREE and may not be used as kennels so please keep pets off furnature and don't leave them inside when you are gone. You must bring your own queen sheet set. Steam cleaning the mattress will be an extra charge.
Swimming beach is available in Lowell a few miles away.
Fishing rivers and lakes are also in the area. (live bait in Saranac)

"Elysium Heritage Farm" is situated on 120 acres in Northeast, MI surrounded by woods, trails, ponds and canals. There's a grocery store, numerous cheese shops, and a variety of party stores and restaurants. For the outdoor enthusiasts, don't miss out on going to the ever-famous "Northwoods Wholesale Outlet". Also nearby is the "Saganing Eagles Landing Casino" in Standish. We have resided here for over 30 years and can assist you in many ways to get the most out of your visit.
By the way, the definition of the word "Elysium" is "Place of perfect bliss" and yes, we labeled it that long before the movie with Matt Damon was created.

Before our forest was "owned," it belonged to the Odawa people. Once white settlers arrived and governments were established, land deeds were written. We traced those deeds back through the Oceana County Register of Deeds and found that larger tracts of land were owned by people from Chicago and California, which were later divided into smaller parcels.
Interestingly, one owner lost the property after failing to pay back taxes of $3.50, shortly after World War II. It is likely that he never returned.
In the mid-1900s, Ed Dewey was the owner. Today, we have a cabin on the east side of the 40 acres that was built by Ed, entirely constructed with oak. He had three sawmills there, each powered by the engines of old Studebakers. He cut and milled enormous oak trees, using the wood to construct crates for transporting cherries. Today, you can still see old oak crates on various farms, but they are slowly being replaced by plastic.
Ed never finished the little cabin, and the story goes that he died there.
The next owners were a couple from Inkster, near Detroit. Despite Ed leaving an acre of "yard art" all over, the place was used as a vacation home after a 50-foot long mobile home was placed near the cabin. As they aged, they sold off their property to us. First, we acquired the 20 acres where the Cozy Camper Cabin resides, then the 7 acres near Weaver Road and 44th, and finally, the remaining 13 acres with the cabin. We began purchasing the property in parcels in 1992 for $500 an acre and owned it all by 1998.
From 1998 to 2008, we removed the mobile home, cleaned up all the yard art, refurbished the cabin, added a garage, and built a new shed nearby. The Hipcamp shed was originally built in 1999 and has been used for storage until it was converted into a unique little place in the woods in 2021.
Over the years, our Forester has carefully managed the property. We have logged three times. The first round was to remove 75 huge oak trees. The second round involved culling mature poplar trees. The last time, we took out 276 mature oaks and beeches. A Woodsman spent a year cutting down the tops of the trees. Clearing these old growth trees revitalized the forest, as planned.
Today, there are over two miles of trails running throughout the property. Some were logging roads, while others were carved out over time. The land is flat to the north but hilly to the south, as these are forested sand dunes. There are approximately a million trees on the property, densely forested with many large "mother trees" such as oaks, beeches, maples, and pines. The poplar trees are growing rapidly, as they do. Wild cherry, sassafras, beeches, oaks, and maples are also growing quickly and thickly.
To the south, there are fenced-in asparagus fields and cherry orchards. To the north, on the other side of Weaver Road, is the privately owned Silver Lake Airport, which remains quiet most of the time. On the east side of our 40 acres, you'll find our cabin and buildings, and we kindly ask you to avoid wandering onto that side of the property. Signs will alert you when you get close.
To the west, there is a 20-acre section occasionally occupied by some "Dunners." The area is famous for Silver Lake State Park and the sand dunes, located about 2.5 miles northwest of us. Our neighbors in that area have dune buggies, and they sometimes drive around their property, creating more noise than we prefer. It's possible that you may encounter this during your visit, so please be aware.
Deer are abundant in the area, and in 2021, we spotted a porcupine for the first time, although we have occasionally seen evidence of their presence through bark-stripped maples. Raccoons come and go, while turkeys are frequent visitors at times. You can hear coyotes yipping away at night, and depending on the time of year and migratory season, you'll see lots and lots of birds.
We're pleased to report that there is no poison ivy on the property!
It is a beautiful place in the woods, not far from many entertaining activities suitable for both the young and old. Come and visit, but please be respectful of the land and our privacy while enjoying yours.

The south half s home to 8 charcoal kilns which employed a community prior to ownership. The mountain is approximately 1.8 billion years old.

Site 1, The Falls Site, is located on a spring fed stream.
The hike from parking to tent site is 1/4 mile on a well-marked hilly path.
Campers can park at the main property on County Road HD or on the Garden Road, and will need to pack supplies to their site.
Site 2, The Garden Site, is 50 feet from the stream and campers can drive to and park their vehicles at the site.
Site 3, Mountain View Cabin, is a century old hunting cabin with 2 cots on the main floor and 2 singles in the loft. Site 3 includes an outhouse and sauna.
All sites have a picnic table, firepit and outhouse.
Campers are responsible for removal of all other waste.
The 2-foot wide stream provides water for washing, but is not considered potable, and use of filters or boiling water is recommended.
These isolated sites are beautiful and rustic and nestled in the midst of the Noquemanon Trail Network (cross country skiing and mountain biking) and North Country Trails and are approximately 2 miles from Lake Superior, Harlow Lake and Dead River.
4 kayaks/paddles/life vests and a 12 foot boat are available for camper use. First come, first serve. You transport.

Bear Tree Homestead is nestled among the cliffs and ravines which drains the south face of Hogback Mountain located in Marquette Township Michigan.
Hogback Mountain is one of the larger rock formations in the Huron Range, a surprisingly rugged, and diverse region of low mountains carved by glaciers.
Each cabin is hand-built of log and stone using traditional Scandinavian building tools and techniques. The cabins have access to the pond, use of the canoe, a private fire pit, picnic table, charcoal grill and privy. Inside the cabins is a functional kitchen with dishes, flatware, pots and pans, so you can prepare meals onsite. Cabins also have table and chairs as well soft chairs/sofa sitting area, bookshelves with a variety of books, board games and puzzles, and covered porch in case of rain.
Our buildings, gardens, and pastures are integrated into the forested landscape and are not your typical homestead. The cabin has propane lighting, propane refrigerator, an antique stove with burner tops, and a free-standing propane gas stove for crisp evenings. There is a small kitchen area with a sleeping loft above and a sitting/family area at the far end of the cabin. The kitchen is equipped with pots and pans, coffee pot, dishes, and misc. utensils. *Please bring your own linens, pillows, and water.
On the backside of the cabin, you'll find a peaceful sitting area with a firepit. When nature calls, there is a well-built outhouse that is available. There is also a large outdoor shower with heated water and a dressing area. There are trails that meander through the property for those who enjoy walking, biking, snowmobiling, or four wheeling. You won't find a more peaceful, tranquil property to relax in and enjoy the wildlife. Only 1.3 miles into Manton with several bars and restaurants. Within 3 miles you are able to gain access to State property, the Manistee River, and Chase Creek.
From the trails in this area you can go as far as Houghton Lake and Fife Lake. Great area for hunting, fishing, four wheeling, dirt bikes, and hiking. This is a great getaway you don't want to miss out on!

We would like to take a moment and introduce ourselves. Our names are Tom and Heather Holmstrom. We were married in 2016 and have four children as part of our blended family. We are both originally from the Upper Peninsula. Superior Times Resort and Campground was the result of us wanting to do something “outside of the box” that would allow us to raise our family and show them there is more out there than the traditional path. We also wanted showcase our love and respect for the beauty of the Upper Peninsula; the area that many refer to as “God’s Country.”
In December of 2016, we mistakenly pulled into the driveway of this property. At that time, it was known as Coleman’s Paradise Resort. There was a For Sale sign marking the property. We both knew at that point our fate was sealed to become this property’s new owners. We learned that this property had been a family vacation destination for nearly 100 years. We could only imagine the special memories that had been made here over the years! We wanted to become a part of that deep history.
Through the many years of the resort’s history, the owners had changed and the cabins were showing true signs of their age. We knew there was A LOT of work that simply had to be done. On a wing and prayer, we somehow made this great resort ours. In April of 2017, we opened what we named Superior Times Resort and Campground. We pulled up or sleeves and went to work!

What a cool little spot to stay! Plenty of room for 2 people,A/C came in clutch on hot days, fridge was great for leftovers, coffeemaker, lots of trails to explore, quiet and secluded (didn't hear any neighbors). Super comfy bed. Heard barred owls and whip-poor-wills, saw a porcupine! Made a great base camp for exploring the area.
Only downside was spotty wi-fi, but thats why you come to a place like this, to disconnect!

I’ve stayed at Dalton camp multiple times now. This is the best camp on this app. I’ve been to many other campgrounds and Dalton is the absolute best camp I’ve experienced. It’s clean and safe. Ed makes sure you have everything that you need. The price is great too. Trust me you’ll won’t find another site at that price that has everything that Dalton camps has. You’ll be paying in the $100s for half of what you get with Dalton camp site. It’s beyond affordable for everyday workers like myself. Best sleep I’ve gotten in years too. No city noise. Just the animals and trees sounds in the wind. Perfection!!!

Cowboy town is a one-of-a-kind treasure. We stayed in the very clean Bear cabin. The adorable shared bathroom was a short walk from the cabin. Very friendly host and property cats. Would like to stay again.

I stayed in the house. I like that it's surrounded by woods, so it feels like you're camping. It's only a few minutes from town, which was also perfect for us, because we could go to town for a few hours and then go back to settle down for the night. It's a very simple home with beautiful scenery.

the host greeted me on arrival gave me a tour and explained everything available to use. the host was always asking if i needed anything. they are onsite working they keep there distance to give you your privacy. the cabin was great clean quiet and a great view. very nice covered porch over looking horses. the cowboy town was a neat thing to walk around. alot of trails to explore on site. the stream was a great place to cool off. this is a great place to stay and relax. a great location to unplugged and relax.

The 40 Acre Wood was exactly the stay I needed to decompress! I brought my bulldog and we explored the trails and had ourselves a nice campfire for two days—just me and the dog! Slept like a log on that super comfy bed and there was even a dog bed for my buddy. Dave was super responsive when needed but also gave me my space. 10/10–will definitely be back

This was an excellent campsite. My fiance and I stayed in a cabin, which was super clean, and also had Wifi and even a TV. The bath houses are very clean, as other reviewers commented, and the owners were helpful and communicative. There's also a little store on site with coffee which was nice. Would definitely stay here again if we ever come back to the UP!

Group trip
We absolutely loved our stay at the cabin. My son, daughter in law and grandbaby enjoyed hours watching the turtles and fish, walking the trails and meeting the farm animals while learning about Elysiums history. Will always remember morning coffee on the porch, baby's first campfire and playing Frisbee behind the cabin. We hope to return next year!
