Bear Tree Homestead is nestled among the cliffs and ravines which drains the south face of Hogback Mountain located in Marquette Township Michigan. Hogback Mountain is one of the larger rock formations in the Huron Range, a surprisingly rugged, and diverse region of low mountains carved by glaciers. Each cabin is hand-built of log and stone using traditional Scandinavian building tools and techniques. The cabins have access to the pond, use of the canoe, a private fire pit, picnic table, charcoal grill and privy. Inside the cabins is a functional kitchen with dishes, flatware, pots and pans, so you can prepare meals onsite. Cabins also have table and chairs as well soft chairs/sofa sitting area, bookshelves with a variety of books, board games and puzzles, and covered porch in case of rain. Our buildings, gardens, and pastures are integrated into the forested landscape and are not your typical homestead. Enjoy the peaceful surroundings, collect fresh eggs (when they are laying), lay in the hammock, listen to the sounds of nature and the barnyard or take an adventure hike, bike ride, snowshoe, or ski right out the door.  One of the most wonderful things we have to offer is the accessibility to thousands of protected acres surrounding us and the trails that bisect them. The property is on the North Country Trail, just over a Noquemanon Trail Network Forestville trailhead where access to year round recreation awaits. Hogback Mountain is just up the trail from the cabin with spectacular views of forest, mountains and lake superior. We are located 8 miles from downtown Marquette in Michigan's Upper Peninsula where there are many great restaurants, shops, and brewpubs. However, once you drive into Bear Tree Homestead and settle in you will not want to leave.

We were married in 2016 and have four children as part of our blended family. We are both originally from the Upper Peninsula. Superior Times Resort and Campground was the result of us wanting to do something “outside of the box” that would allow us to raise our family and show them there is more out there than the traditional path. We also wanted showcase our love and respect for the beauty of the Upper Peninsula; the area that many refer to as “God’s Country.” In December of 2016, we mistakenly pulled into the driveway of this property. At that time, it was known as Coleman’s Paradise Resort. There was a For Sale sign marking the property. We both knew at that point our fate was sealed to become this property’s new owners. We learned that this property had been a family vacation destination for nearly 100 years. We could only imagine the special memories that had been made here over the years! We wanted to become a part of that deep history. Through the many years of the resort’s history, the owners had changed and the cabins were showing true signs of their age. We knew there was A LOT of work that simply had to be done. On a wing and prayer, we somehow made this great resort ours. In April of 2017, we opened what we named Superior Times Resort and Campground. We pulled up or sleeves and went to work! Your host property is 13 acres between the Yellow Dog River, and Bear Lake, with frontage on both. The Yellow Dog River is a legendary trout stream, and many artists have found that the river satisfies their need for the wild. There are two cabin sites available, One overlooking Bear Lake with sunset views, and the other a cabin that was moved to the property in 1999 to preserve it. Both sites share amenities such as the outhouse, communal fire pit and water, but the cabins are not in close proximity so everyone has their privacy. They are both rustic cabins having no running water, or electricity. A futon with mattress cover is provided in each cabin along with a table and chairs. See the individual site descriptions for more details. We are 20 miles (app) north of Marquette, which is my home town.  It is a destination for bikers, skiiers, and outdoor rec folk!  There are so many things to see and do in Marquette, so make sure to plan enough time to check out the town!  Also, just six miles to our north is historic Big Bay.  A lumber town back in the day, it is full of history.  Check out the Thunder Bay Inn, where parts of Anatomy of a Murder, starring Jimmy Stewart and Lee Remick were filmed.  Don't miss going to the Lumberjack to see where the actual murder took place, either!  You will find good eats and perhaps even some live music at either establishment. You'll also find everything you need in the way of groceries, and gas at Cram's General Store, where there's also a laundromat.  Burns landing just north of the marina has the historic Burns family home renovated in a park setting, and a public beach access to mighty Lake Superior.  This park has picnic tables and grills, and even a handicap accessible outhouse and trail to the lake. Yellow Dog falls is a short drive on Co. Road 510, and on the way be sure to climb Thomas Rock overlook.  There are new bike trails if you're into that as well!   Stay awhile.  You'll be glad you did! We strive to offer peace and serenity to our guests, and love to share these woods with those needing tranquility and respite from a busy world. In this sensitive environmental area, we have only two sites to keep traffic down, enhance our visitors experience, and to protect the wildlife here. Unplug with us, eh!

The hike from parking to tent site is 1/4 mile on a well-marked hilly path. Campers can park at the main property on County Road HD or on the Garden Road, and will need to pack supplies to their site. Site 2, The Garden Site, is 100 feet from the stream and campers can drive to and park their vehicles at the site. Site 3, Mountain View Cabin, includes an outhouse and sauna. The 2-foot wide stream provides water for washing, but is not considered potable, and use of filters or boiling water is recommended. The boujee outhouse is shared by both sites and is cleaned regularly. The new Prairieview Chalet is an exceptional adventurers haven! It has all the things you want after a day(s) out in the wilderness, with amenities like a hot shower, fully stocked kitchen, linens and more. Our property reflects our love of the land and space. Norm's Log Cabin started out as a back 40 acre camp from the 1970's. Hunting is not Allowed on Property. Over the years we have taken time to make some improvements. We have acquire additional adjoining property and run some electricity. We have pieced together 160 contiguous acres over the years, and continue to manage the property as a family gathering location as well as doing some occasional log harvesting. This is the place to get away from it all, but still be in striking distance to several attractions. A full service restaurant in La Branch which is a short 12 minute drive SE, and a local hang out called the Red Arrow which is a 5 minute drive NW. The Cabin sits at the end of a long 1/4 mile driveway in the middle of the 160 acre plot of trees. You need to cross Anderson Creek, and drive past another hunting camp near the front entrance. This front 40 acre camp (Anderson Creek Camp) is another more rustic option then Norm's Log Cabin. The road leading to this driveway off of Highway 69 is near the village of Hardwood. Along Highway 69 is a snowmobile/ORV trail managed by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and can be easily reached via the gravel road to/from camp. That specific trail is designated as A, and runs the length of Highway 69 and intersects ORV trail AG which would bring you into Escanaba. There is many and frequent ORV activity on this trail, and there are many stopping points for refreshments along the way. Hardwood Impoundment Pond is the closest body of water to Norm's Log Cabin, and can be reached by car or ATV. This impoundment pond is really the back waters of a local dam in the area, and can be fished from the bank or off the bridge that goes across the area. Very easily reachable. Again this is just a place to get away from it all and take in the outdoors. We can supply some ideas of places to visit . . .

There are three bedroom areas upstairs with a full modern bath. One room Full bed, One room Queen bed, and the third is an open area with a privacy curtain and sitting area as well as a King bed. The living area has light seating area with a twin pull out loveseat, and two recliners. We have kayaks available for use. A small dock. There is some erosion on the bank we are currently working on but no beach, its in the process. Pets are allowed but please do not allow off leash or out of small fenced in area. All pet owners must clean up after your pets outside and if you leave for the day you are responsible for them. I recommend kennel trained as they act completely different and strange place. Ours are the same. Owner is around but can not watch pets as we work full time. I can check for a local teen to provide day care if requested. Breakfast foods will be supplied but there will no cooking provided. If you have special requests for breakfast foods please forward that information one week prior to arrival. The space You’ll love all the room this home offers and the great location. It’s close to area attractions such as Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Grand Island, Bay Furnace, waterfalls, hiking, beaches, etc. You are also only a couple of blocks from state snowmobile and ATV trails. This home has plenty of space for a large group but is also quite cozy for small groups as well. It has an attached 2-car heated garage and a half-circle driveway for easy in-and-out parking. The pool is only open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Summer rentals start June 20th. Sorry, no pets are allowed. Guest access Guests have full access to the home, other than the mechanical room in the basement and the brown pole barn. Other things to note The home has central air conditioning with a limit on the thermostat of 68. No pets allowed. No smoking is allowed in the home.

This home has a nice entry way with plenty of room to store your gear. We are conveniently located right on M28, about 1/4 mile west of Foggy’s Steakhouse and next to the entrance of Pictured Rocks RV & Campground. You can ride right from the home to miles and miles of groomed snowmobile trails in the winter or ORV trails in the summer. There’s plenty of room to park trucks and trailers for bringing your toys up. Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore begins in Munising, which is only about 5 miles east of the home. Our home was recently gutted down to the studs and completely remodeled. We opened up the living room/kitchen area and added a bathroom and brought the washer and dryer up to the main level. There’s a brand new 65” Roku TV in the living room and we have fiber optic wireless internet. We also added a tankless hot water heater so everybody gets a hot shower! We also wanted showcase our love and respect for the beauty of the Upper Peninsula; the area that many refer to as “God’s Country.” In December of 2016, we mistakenly pulled into the driveway of this property. At that time, it was known as Coleman’s Paradise Resort. There was a For Sale sign marking the property. We both knew at that point our fate was sealed to become this property’s new owners. We learned that this property had been a family vacation destination for nearly 100 years. We could only imagine the special memories that had been made here over the years! We wanted to become a part of that deep history. Through the many years of the resort’s history, the owners had changed and the cabins were showing true signs of their age. We knew there was A LOT of work that simply had to be done. On a wing and prayer, we somehow made this great resort ours. Your host property is 13 acres between the Yellow Dog River, and Bear Lake, with frontage on both. The Yellow Dog River is a legendary trout stream, and many artists have found that the river satisfies their need for the wild. There are two cabin sites available, One overlooking Bear Lake with sunset views, and the other a cabin that was moved to the property in 1999 to preserve it. Both sites share amenities such as the outhouse, communal fire pit and water, but the cabins are not in close proximity so everyone has their privacy. They are both rustic cabins having no running water, or electricity. A futon with mattress cover is provided in each cabin along with a table and chairs. See the individual site descriptions for more details. We are 20 miles (app) north of Marquette, which is my home town.  It is a destination for bikers, skiiers, and outdoor rec folk!  There are so many things to see and do in Marquette, so make sure to plan enough time to check out the town!  Also, just six miles to our north is historic Big Bay.  A lumber town back in the day, it is full of history.  Check out the Thunder Bay Inn, where parts of Anatomy of a Murder, starring Jimmy Stewart and Lee Remick were filmed.  Don't miss going to the Lumberjack to see where the actual murder took place, either!  You will find good eats and perhaps even some live music at either establishment. You'll also find everything you need in the way of groceries, and gas at Cram's General Store, where there's also a laundromat.  Burns landing just north of the marina has the historic Burns family home renovated in a park setting, and a public beach access to mighty Lake Superior.  This park has picnic tables and grills, and even a handicap accessible outhouse and trail to the lake. Yellow Dog falls is a short drive on Co. Road 510, and on the way be sure to climb Thomas Rock overlook.  There are new bike trails if you're into that as well!   Stay awhile.  You'll be glad you did! We strive to offer peace and serenity to our guests, and love to share these woods with those needing tranquility and respite from a busy world. In this sensitive environmental area, we have only two sites to keep traffic down, enhance our visitors experience, and to protect the wildlife here. Unplug with us, eh!

Norm's Log Cabin started out as a back 40 acre camp from the 1970's. Hunting is not Allowed on Property. Over the years we have taken time to make some improvements. We have acquire additional adjoining property and run some electricity. We have pieced together 160 contiguous acres over the years, and continue to manage the property as a family gathering location as well as doing some occasional log harvesting. This is the place to get away from it all, but still be in striking distance to several attractions. A full service restaurant in La Branch which is a short 12 minute drive SE, and a local hang out called the Red Arrow which is a 5 minute drive NW. The Cabin sits at the end of a long 1/4 mile driveway in the middle of the 160 acre plot of trees. You need to cross Anderson Creek, and drive past another hunting camp near the front entrance. This front 40 acre camp (Anderson Creek Camp) is another more rustic option then Norm's Log Cabin. The road leading to this driveway off of Highway 69 is near the village of Hardwood. Along Highway 69 is a snowmobile/ORV trail managed by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and can be easily reached via the gravel road to/from camp. That specific trail is designated as A, and runs the length of Highway 69 and intersects ORV trail AG which would bring you into Escanaba. There is many and frequent ORV activity on this trail, and there are many stopping points for refreshments along the way. Hardwood Impoundment Pond is the closest body of water to Norm's Log Cabin, and can be reached by car or ATV. This impoundment pond is really the back waters of a local dam in the area, and can be fished from the bank or off the bridge that goes across the area. Very easily reachable. Again this is just a place to get away from it all and take in the outdoors. We can supply some ideas of places to visit . . .

There is some erosion on the bank we are currently working on but no beach, its in the process. Pets are allowed but please do not allow off leash or out of small fenced in area. All pet owners must clean up after your pets outside and if you leave for the day you are responsible for them. I recommend kennel trained as they act completely different and strange place. Ours are the same. Owner is around but can not watch pets as we work full time. I can check for a local teen to provide day care if requested. Breakfast foods will be supplied but there will no cooking provided. If you have special requests for breakfast foods please forward that information one week prior to arrival. Our home was recently gutted down to the studs and completely remodeled. We opened up the living room/kitchen area and added a bathroom and brought the washer and dryer up to the main level. There’s a brand new 65” Roku TV in the living room and we have fiber optic wireless internet. We also added a tankless hot water heater so everybody gets a hot shower! We supply a crock pot, blender, drip coffee maker, and all the necessities to cook a meal at home. There’s a nice, large foyer with a bench and a shelf with hooks with plenty of room to store all your coats, bibs, helmets, boots, etc. -Separate rental agreement and security deposit hold required for all reservations.

Looking for a remote cabin for a romantic getaway or a relaxing time in the big Northwoods? Ellen’s cabin is off-grid (12volt DC, solar), has limited running water and unreliable cellphone service. It’s 1/2 a mile from a dirt road which is a portion of the North Country Trail, sitting in the rugged Michigamme Highlands, close to Silver Lake and Dead River Basins. The cabin is fully equipped and is 45 minutes from Ishpeming and an hour from Marquette. There is a wood stove and back-up propane for heat, a gas stove and small grill for cooking and a small fridge. Norm's Log Cabin started out as a back 40 acre camp from the 1970's. Hunting is not Allowed on Property. Over the years we have taken time to make some improvements. We have acquire additional adjoining property and run some electricity. We have pieced together 160 contiguous acres over the years, and continue to manage the property as a family gathering location as well as doing some occasional log harvesting. This is the place to get away from it all, but still be in striking distance to several attractions. A full service restaurant in La Branch which is a short 12 minute drive SE, and a local hang out called the Red Arrow which is a 5 minute drive NW. The Cabin sits at the end of a long 1/4 mile driveway in the middle of the 160 acre plot of trees. You need to cross Anderson Creek, and drive past another hunting camp near the front entrance. This front 40 acre camp (Anderson Creek Camp) is another more rustic option then Norm's Log Cabin. The road leading to this driveway off of Highway 69 is near the village of Hardwood. Along Highway 69 is a snowmobile/ORV trail managed by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and can be easily reached via the gravel road to/from camp. That specific trail is designated as A, and runs the length of Highway 69 and intersects ORV trail AG which would bring you into Escanaba. There is many and frequent ORV activity on this trail, and there are many stopping points for refreshments along the way. Hardwood Impoundment Pond is the closest body of water to Norm's Log Cabin, and can be reached by car or ATV. This impoundment pond is really the back waters of a local dam in the area, and can be fished from the bank or off the bridge that goes across the area. Very easily reachable. Again this is just a place to get away from it all and take in the outdoors. We can supply some ideas of places to visit . . .

Lovely cottage on Autrain Lake near all of the sites to see in the area. Currently offered as B&B in our main cabin but homeowner will be in separate quarters. You will be in a private cabin. There are three bedroom areas upstairs with a full modern bath. One room Full bed, One room Queen bed, and the third is an open area with a privacy curtain and sitting area as well as a King bed. The living area has light seating area with a twin pull out loveseat, and two recliners. We have kayaks available for use. A small dock. There is some erosion on the bank we are currently working on but no beach, its in the process. Pets are allowed but please do not allow off leash or out of small fenced in area. All pet owners must clean up after your pets outside and if you leave for the day you are responsible for them. I recommend kennel trained as they act completely different and strange place. Ours are the same. Owner is around but can not watch pets as we work full time. I can check for a local teen to provide day care if requested. Breakfast foods will be supplied but there will no cooking provided. If you have special requests for breakfast foods please forward that information one week prior to arrival. We loved being so close to the Hogback trailhead — it makes for the perfect day hike before coming back to unwind in such a serene setting. From the moment we arrived at the Pond Cabin, everything we experienced exceeded our expectations. The cabin itself was cute, cozy, and very clean. It had a lot more kitchen and camping supplies than we expected. Loved the layout. It comfortably slept three adults and two dogs. The woods surrounding it and the pond are very beautiful and serene. No road sounds or artificial light, just peaceful nature and the quaint farmhouse. We were welcomed by our gracious hosts and their dogs who made us feel very at home, were so friendly, and made great recommendations for hikes and experiences. The hike to Hogback mountain is a must. The view from the top and fall colors were just breathtaking and you can walk there right from the cabin! We spent most of a day hiking the NCT and were just blown away by the trails and views. None of us knew how great the traditional Finnish sauna and cold plunge (into the crystal clear spring fed pond?!?) would relax and rejuvenate us. Wow! Also worth mentioning it’s an easy, very pretty drive to Pictured Rocks. You can do it all. All I can say is we will definitely be back and would recommend it to anyone who’s looking for what must be the ultimate UP experience.

The cabin was perfect, the land was beautiful, beds are quite comfy, oil lamps and fire are ever so cozy and the cookies so tasty. Hogback mountain trail is very close by and well worth the venture if you can manage a bit of a scramble at lest once. One evening here was not sufficient, we definitely plan to return. Well worth checking out if taking a trip to the area or just looking to go somewhere beautiful and peaceful to retreat from the world for a while.

Pond cabin is clean, comfortable on the inside, slept exceptionally well, in the warm and cozy loft, using wood stove that kept me warm all night using very little wood. For those who like disconnecting in primitive spaces where the sounds of birds and wind rustling through the trees, an occasional distant rooster's crow, then this is the place you'll not want to leave. So close to North Country trail and easy hike to Hogback Mtn summit with amazing views. Jill the hostess and her family were very friendly as were her 3 dogs. Only heard them bark for a short time in the distance 1st night, while they protected the homestead chickens from wildlife. Jill showed me the authentic Mongolian Yurt they just installed, located on the trail towards the North Country Trail and Hogback mtn. Beautiful! I thought it was easy to find using Jill's directions and my satellite map/location phone. I would definitely stay here again. Hiked Dead Man's River trail nearby many waterfalls, enjoyed Marquette MI Pasties Lawry's and Iron Town Pasty the best, Presque Isle Black Rocks at sunset, and Ore Dock & Black Rock Breweries. Even say an ore freighter being loaded at Marquette's active Ore Dock!

This place/our cabin was perfect! We were impressed with how clean it was and the space was perfect for two adult couples, a baby, and our young daughter on the pull-out couch. They even had a pack and play for us when we arrived! The hosts were friendly and accommodating and there for anything we needed but also gave a lot of space and privacy. The campground is great too; the lakefront was beautiful and lots of different areas to sit and relax and enjoy. We would definitely come back!

My husband and I are expecting our first baby in December and this was the perfect spot to get away and find stillness within all the excitement 🥲 we love to camp and backpack but being pregnant this was the perfect in between of comfort and rustic backcountry vibes! We loved the sense of adventure and truly felt at home in this space. It was really fun to learn about the off grid / sustainable practices that make this place unique and fun to explore. This off grid cabin/land had such nourishing ambiance and character there was always something unique to notice within all the tiny details Linda and Darryl put into it or from others that were left behind. We enjoying slow mornings reading journal entries from past visits over slow brewed coffee, walking the land, fishing in the river and playing games over a home cooked meal! The cabin was located perfectly on the peninsula we were able to explore copper harbor and close enough to houghton hancock if we needed anything. This is definitely a trip we will always remember and can’t wait to make it back with our little guy sooner than later! Our cottage offers 1 king bed, 1 queen bed, and 2 full beds. Come up to enjoy Pictured Rocks & numerous waterfalls in the area. Only 2 blocks from Christmas ORV/snowmobile trailhead. The space During the summer, our cottage goes from Saturday to Saturday (not required to stay all 7-days). We are adding central air conditioning to the home for the summer of 2021. The second bedroom here is a little odd. It used to be a jacuzzi tub room. The jacuzzi tub was removed, and now there is a bed in there. The room still has a toilet and sink in it. We have added a curtain to block the toilet view from the bed. While it is unusual, we think it is worth keeping to have an extra lavatory for larger groups. The home has a beautiful view (especially for evening sunsets!) overlooking Furnace Lake and is very quiet and peaceful. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do :) Up to 2 dogs are allowed with preapproval, but there is a $75 non-refundable pet fee that will need to be added. Guest access Guests have full access to the home, garage, red outbuilding next to the garage, and yard. The red outbuilding near the road is not available to guests.

Home is conveniently located less than 5 miles from Munising, the beginning of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. It also is about 2 blocks from the area ORV/snowmobile trailhead and walking distance to Kewadin Casino, Sunoco gas station, and Foggy’s Steakhouse. Home offers a 1 car attached heated garage and large backyard. The space Bedroom 1 with a king bed is on the main floor next to a bathroom. Bedroom 2 is in the basement with a queen bed and 2 single beds. Basement also has an additional family room with a set of bunk beds in it and a futon. Main level living room has a twin sofa sleeper available also. Both living rooms and the kitchen area have a TV with Roku and complimentary Netflix and Amazon subscriptions. There is no cable or local channels, but there is fast, fiber-optic internet service. Home has 2 full bathrooms, and an on-demand tankless water heater, so everyone gets a hot shower :) We do allow up to 2 dogs, but there will be a $75 non-refundable pet fee if approved. Please check if your furry friend is allowed. The backyard is not fenced in, so dogs must be on a leash when taken outside. There is a scoopers and baggies in the garage to clean up after your pet. We do ask that you try to keep them off the furniture or put down sheets. Guest access Guests have access to the whole home, including the laundry facilities and garage. Other things to note * Must use stairs to enter home and to access bedroom in the basement * $75 non-refundable pet fee for up to 2 dogs, with permission

Hello, and welcome to Superior Times Resort and Campground! We would like to take a moment and introduce ourselves. Our names are Tom and Heather Holmstrom. We were married in 2016 and have four children as part of our blended family. We are both originally from the Upper Peninsula. Superior Times and Resort was the result of us wanting to do something “outside of the box” that would allow us to raise our family and showcase our love and respect for the beauty of the Upper Peninsula…the area that many refer to as “God’s Country.”  In December of 2016, we mistakenly pulled into the driveway of this property. At that time, it was known as Coleman’s Paradise Resort. There was a For Sale sign marking the property. We both knew at that point our fate was sealed to become this property’s new owners. We learned that this property had been a family vacation destination for nearly 100 years. We could only imagine the special memories that had been made here over the years! We wanted to become a part of that deep history.Through the many years of the resort’s history, the owners had changed and the cabins were showing true signs of their age. We knew there was A LOT of work that simply had to be done. On a wing and prayer, we somehow made this great resort ours. In April of 2017, we opened what we named Superior Times Resort and Campground. We pulled up or sleeves and went to work! We began this resort’s transformation by replacing nearly all of the roofs. We then added the campground (we are most proud of the campground, as it did not exist prior to our ownership). In the winters we worked on the inside of the cabins, which is what we continue working on to this day. We have completely remodeled 3 cabins; Eagle Harbor, Copper Harbor and Isle Royal. Smaller projects are being continually worked on in the other cabins. Slowly but surely, we are turning this property into our vision. The harsh winter of 2018/2019 led to two roof collapses and even more work!! In 2020, we designed and built rustic bungalows in our campground for nightly rental. Please, take a walk down Backwoods Alley and check them out. In the winter of 2020/2021, we built new custom showers in 3 cabins and replaced the old siding on Eagle Harbor and Copper Harbor. We think the new cedar shakes complete the rustic feel we are aiming for. In the spring of 2021, we added 4 new campsites and built a new bath house for our campers. We also ordered new windows for Tahquamenon Falls and Mackinaw Island, however due to the pandemic we did not receive them in time for installation (insert angry emoji). It has been so rewarding having customers return to this resort and commenting so favorably on the changes we have made! What will 2022 bring? Stay tuned.We could not have done ANY of the resort changes without the help and support of my parents, Roger and Marcia Hart. They sold their own home to live out here full time to be a part of the resort’s transformations. Without them, this dream would not have been possible. They truly define the saying, “labor of love,” as we often can only pay them with love.  Our dream truly became their dream, as well.
