Before that, it was the land of the Mahican native Americans. They named it "valley of the butternut trees", or Wyomanock.
The Wyomanock Creek is the backbone of this little valley. Beaver have dammed the creek at several points to create ponds and other wetland features that support a diversity of wildlife including otter, moose and a myriad of birds, from osprey to herons. This sanctuary is host to many uncommon native plants and plant communities. We would love to share it with you!

All fires must be completely out unless you are physically with your fire. We supply 5 gallons of water and more is available to drink, wash dishes and put your fire out. Please respect our rules. Fire safety is necessary to keep everything safe here for all of us. Thank you for understanding.
Here in the mountains we can experience very cold nights. We supply a small pile of firewood for a small fire at no charge. If you like, you can gather more dead wood (not live trees) in our forests. Please bring lots of clothes and layers. Stay warm!
Smoking: We are primarily a non-smoking/vaping farm and appreciate you smoking/vaping in your vehicle not on our premises please.
Partying: Nope not us. Our farm is peaceful and quiet and so are our neighbors. Please party elsewhere and come here to relax in the blissful quiet of nature. Quiet music, just playing some Spotify tunes and acoustic musicians are welcome here. There's a great bar restaurant 5 minutes from us, "17 Cherry Plain Sq". Live music, great food and something like 40 beers on tap. Party there then chill out here with us.
Breakfast and the best beef this side of the Mississippi can be found at Gardners Cafe and Icecream Shop only 5 miles up 22 South from our place. You can enjoy a big fat omelet with homefries and bacon then grab frozen hamburg and steaks from Gardner's own local beef grown wild and free outside.
Cherry Plain Sanctuary Farm is adjacent to miles of public forest. Peace and solace can be found in these quiet mountains. In addition to amazing hiking, backpacking mountain biking, road biking right from your Hipcamp site, with kayaking nearby.
We are 10 minutes away from Cherry Plain State Park (which has a gorgeous lake and kid-friendly sandy beach), and even closer to the Taconic Crest Trail.
Our location is nestled between the Taconics of New York, the Green Mountains of Vermont, and the Berkshires of Massachusetts.
Come share our paradise, bring your outdoor adventurer gear (you will be glad you did) and we will share our favorite local destinations with you.
We ask that all hipcampers who are primary guests be 21 years of age or over. Children are welcome but we will not knowingly rent to anyone under 21 years of age.
There is a $50 additional charge for garbage left at our farm including cigarette butts (we are a no smoking farm!), broken glass, bottles, cans, plastics, containers, bags and other trash.
This is a pack in and pack out working farm not a party spot. Renting from us constitutes your reading of our rules attached to each property, your understanding and your agreement of our policies. The building site is an old Charchoal mound that was in use in the 1700's so there is a lot of history between the building and site where it sits. A small family farm that has been in Dennis's family since 1914. The old county road once existed in front of our house. Where horses and wagons would stop to off load part of their load to continue up the hill. They would return to pick up the rest and continue on. Since inheriting the farm, we have moved towards sustainable farming. We follow grass fed measures while raising our sheep the poultry free ranges to control the flea and tick population on the farm. Our vegetables are grown organically. We harvest only what is needed to heat our home from the forest leaving under growth alone. Our farm is nestled along a country road between several other farms, mostly horses and a special needs/therapy farm, we are hobby farmers/homesteaders. The land was originally part of a colonial Glebe Trust with the Church of England and divided up, the original 100+ year farmhouse and barn can be seen from many of the campsites.
Guilford, Vermont is located in the southeast of Windham County, resting along the Massachusetts border to the south and New Hampshire not far to the east. A community with a long and interesting history, Guilford was actually Vermont’s largest town as long ago as 1790. Now, with a population of about 2,100, its by no means considered a large community yet with its beautiful old covered bridges, churches, and one-room schoolhouse, Guilford maintains an unmistakable sense of history while at the same time having a reputation as one of the truly unique small communities in southern Vermont.
Guilford has some of the most quintessential small town landmarks in all of Vermont. Sites like the Christ Church, Broad Brook House, and Guilford Center Meeting House were all built in the early 19th Century and are now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These buildings are found in what is considered the historic Center; shop for great local products at the Guilford Country Store, visit the charming Free Library, or even see some of the exhibits at the Historical Society Museum to learn more about the area and its history.

Only 10 minutes from Cherry Plain State Park, Cherry Plain Sanctuary Farm/ Hearts in Hand Horsemanship LLC is a 150 acre hidden destination for outdoor adventurers, families and solo campers. We are a safe place for women who are traveling alone.
We ensure everyone's quiet experience by not publishing our actual address.
Please note: We ask for photo ID. Once we receive your photo ID we will provide exact directions to our property. Please plan to check in no later than 4:30pm as we are not available for later check ins unless we agree to meet you.
We host NYS Police along with local police/sheriff deputies here through our organization Hearts in Hand Horsemanship LLC. Don't be surprised if you see a NYS trooper or police unit parked up in the field near the horses.
All fires must be completely out unless you are physically with your fire. We supply 5 gallons of water and more is available to drink, wash dishes and put your fire out. Please respect our rules. Fire safety is necessary to keep everything safe here for all of us. Thank you for understanding.
Here in the mountains we can experience very cold nights. We supply a small pile of firewood for a small fire at no charge. If you like, you can gather more dead wood (not live trees) in our forests. Please bring lots of clothes and layers. Stay warm!
Smoking: We are primarily a non-smoking/vaping farm and appreciate you smoking/vaping in your vehicle not on our premises please.
Partying: Nope not us. Our farm is peaceful and quiet and so are our neighbors. Please party elsewhere and come here to relax in the blissful quiet of nature. Quiet music, just playing some Spotify tunes and acoustic musicians are welcome here. There's a great bar restaurant 5 minutes from us, "17 Cherry Plain Sq". Live music, great food and something like 40 beers on tap. Party there then chill out here with us.
Breakfast and the best beef this side of the Mississippi can be found at Gardners Cafe and Icecream Shop only 5 miles up 22 South from our place. You can enjoy a big fat omelet with homefries and bacon then grab frozen hamburg and steaks from Gardner's own local beef grown wild and free outside.
Cherry Plain Sanctuary Farm is adjacent to miles of public forest. Peace and solace can be found in these quiet mountains. In addition to amazing hiking, backpacking mountain biking, road biking right from your Hipcamp site, with kayaking nearby.
We are 10 minutes away from Cherry Plain State Park (which has a gorgeous lake and kid-friendly sandy beach), and even closer to the Taconic Crest Trail.
Our location is nestled between the Taconics of New York, the Green Mountains of Vermont, and the Berkshires of Massachusetts.
Come share our paradise, bring your outdoor adventurer gear (you will be glad you did) and we will share our favorite local destinations with you.
We ask that all hipcampers who are primary guests be 21 years of age or over. Children are welcome but we will not knowingly rent to anyone under 21 years of age.
There is a $50 additional charge for garbage left at our farm including cigarette butts (we are a no smoking farm!), broken glass, bottles, cans, plastics, containers, bags and other trash.
This is a pack in and pack out working farm not a party spot. Renting from us constitutes your reading of our rules attached to each property, your understanding and your agreement of our policies. Secluded camping area located in the Berkshires, surrounded by privately owned conserved land. Located minutes from the Deerfield River, Zoar Outdoor Adventures, and Berkshire East, this camping location is right off the road, but nestled behind trees and hedges for maximum privacy, while still providing gorgeous views of the valley and pasture where our neighbor's cows graze. Plenty of shade in the summer (with sun exposure between about 11am and 2pm), and fantastic leaf peeping in the fall. Amenities include a social fire pit, a cooking station with tiers, charcoal grill, folding table, firewood (when available), a restroom area, and 3 platforms to elevate your tent. There is ample room for parking (can accommodate 3 - 5 cars easily).

The cabin served as the perfect home base for our trip to surrounding outdoor recreation (hiking, biking, climbing are all around!). We felt secluded but also safe. Hosts were friendly and kind but also gave us our space. Best outhouse ever and the fairy houses were an added bonus. We regret not staying longer to checkout Shelburne Falls and perhaps just spend a day unwinding at the cabin with its great view and peaceful vibes. Just means we will have to be back soon!

This was a great experience. Drove right up to our site and it was an amazing site. Nice amount of space with a picnic table. The night sky was incredible!! Thomas was a great host. I highly recommend camping here. I will absolutely be back in the future when I’m back in the NY area.

We loved our 2 night stay, but the carts were the real hero getting our stuff to Sanctuary site 5. The site was tucked back off the path that gave us added privacy. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and our dog loved swimming in all the ponds! We ran out of wood after our first night and Thomas had wood readily prepared that we were able to purchase for $10. Overall we loved how quiet and peaceful this campground is, we will definitely be back soon ❤️

Such a deeply beautiful spot. The land is so big and yet feels very cozy. The gardens, land, rock structures, art studio etc is curated in a very intentional, creative and majestic way. My son and I had a great time exploring the land, meeting the chickens and dogs, and Lilian was a very helpful and accommodating host. The tents are very close together, so we had very little privacy from the other party next to us, especially in the morning. But they were cool and overall we had such a wonderful time.

Weekend Trip to The Deer Crib at Flat Rock Farm
This was our 3rd annual stay at the Deer Crib. We had such a great time with our family and dogs. There’s so much for the kids to do between the field and the trails and the swamp/pond. We always have the best time unplugging and hanging out all weekend. The cabin is well stocked with all we needed to cook and be comfortable. The hosts are kind and responsive and we’re already looking forward to our visit next year!

What a sweet spot! Directions were clear and John was great with communication. The site is beautiful, fresh sourdough made our stay even more special. Nice lot to roam among the blueberries, our dogs loved it. Firewood was available upon request which was nice for our travels. There was a perfectly level spot next to the shed for our 25ft class c did not even need levelers. Site was quiet and picturesque and off grid exactly what we were looking for. Thank you for a wonderful stay and the accomodations, hope to be back!

We had such a beautiful stay. Abby sent very helpful and accurate directions ahead of time and we had no trouble finding the site. The tent was very comfortable and the view amazing. We made a fire in the contained fire pit and roasted hotdogs and s'mores. The air was so fresh, no light pollution made for great stargazing, and we enjoyed taking a peek at what was growing at the farm. We didn't get to try walking on any of the nearby trails, but we really enjoyed exploring downtown (would recommend the Bridge of Flowers, Potholes, and the Trolley Museum!)

We had a fantastic time at Wyomanock farm this past weekend. We live nearby in Valatie but needed to get away from people and the internet. We booked Cathedral Pines site 7, which was ~ a quarter mile walk from the parking lot, tucked near the back of the property. The walk to the site was well maintained and freshly mowed for us and it was a beautiful walk through the fields. Water is located at the parking lot, as are porta-potties. Solar shower is absolutely amazing. Warm even on an overcast day, at least during our stay. So lovely to look at the views while taking a nice, warm shower after working hard on your campsite. Saw multiple monarch butterflies, bunnies, deer, and tons of birds. Property is absolutely beautiful. Thom was a lovely host and greeted us when I messaged him we had arrived. Be aware, there is no sign visible from the road to the parking lot, it is marked by 2 orange traffic cones. We missed the entrance the first time and had to turn around. Thank you for a lovely stay, we will be returners for sure!

2 nights at Riverhaven
Had a lovely stay at Renel’s little cabin by the river.
Would NOT have guessed it’s so close to a main road based on other reviews. That is not mentioned!
The flow of the river right beside you drowns out most of the sound but big trucks and motorcycles are easily heard. Also, the cabin is in plain view from the bridge on Harbour Rd but there is not much traffic and we never felt intruded upon.
So do not expect to be in the middle of nowhere, but we felt like there was plenty of privacy and peace.
Cabin itself is great and Renel and family are delightful. Amazing first visit to Vermont!
