You may be perfectly content staying put, but if you seek small town offerings, Chatham (15 minutes away) offers restaurants, art galleries, a brewery, movie theatre, two bakeries, and some shops. We are half an hour from Hudson, and in the midst of plentiful Berkshire and Hudson Valley hiking, biking, antiquing, and sightseeing opportunities. Enjoy the big view from the highest corner of the big field. This is a sweet little campsite set in a birch grove with a view to the Catskills, and lots of wildlife. Two minute walk from your car, and a five minute walk to a swimming pond and a composting toilet outhouse. Near Chatham, New York where there is a brewery, cheese shop, bakery, restaurants, and a movie theatre. We are half an hour from Hudson, and in the midst of plentiful Berkshire and Hudson Valley hiking, biking and sightseeing opportunities. Early check-in and late check-out are often fine; just ask. *Special note for winter campers: depending on both snowfall and what you are driving, the parking locations may change. If we can, we will be happy to either ferry you via our 4WD, or help you carry your stuff in. The winter is really fun and beautiful. It's really nice here and we're happy to share it. Hickory Hollow

Welcome to Hickory Hollow! Located 7 minutes from the Town of Catskill, 25 minutes from Hudson, and just under the Catskill Mountains, Hickory Hollow is the perfect campsite to take full advantage of the Upper Hudson Valley. There are two campsites you can chose from, both in clearings that make for great star gazing. Camp 1 is deeper into the forest taking about two minutes to walk to from the parking area. Camp site 2 is only a one minute walk but much closer to the farm. If you are coming with a dog, I would recommend staying at Camp site 1, as the farms dogs are very vocal when there are new friends in the area. Each campsite comes with a fire pit, a grate for cooking, and a picnic table. There is parking provided and a composting outhouse. You will need to bring your own firewood, though there is plenty of available kindling. The property is 9 acres and I encourage guests to hike down to the stream and take a walk if they feel comfortable. If not there are so many hiking/swimming options nearby and I am happy to point you in the right direction. This property has a been a life long dream of mine, and is (in my opinion) the most beautiful place on earth. That being said there is a still a lot of work that I am doing since this is a very new endeavor. So please watch yourself if you do decide to stay. The Hollow is beautiful but also very steep, so please be careful while you walk the woods. Pets are welcome, but again, be safe. There is an abundance of wildlife in the Hollow (see if you can spot the porcupine) but that can be very distracting for dogs, so be cautious when letting them off lead. The treehouse was built 15 years ago as a sleepout to watch the stars. Groups and tent campers are welcome. Woodland Hills campground is easily accessed from Interstate 90. The campground’s private pond offers swimming, fishing, and paddle boating. Come in for the classic camp atmosphere and our camp store carries many convenience items and treats. We have three Riverside Retro trailers to rent for campers who don’t have their own rigs but who also don’t want to tent overnight, as beautiful as our wooded tent sites are! * This campground does not have cabin rentals*

Overview

Albany, the capital city of New York, is known for its culture and history. When you’re craving a camping trip, the wilds of New England are close by. Sleep on the banks of the Hudson or relax in high in the Green Mountains. Rejuvenate in a mountain tent site, or stay connected in an RV park with Wi-Fi.

No matter what your camping style, New York State has you covered. Birders love the riverside campground at Schodack Island State Park. Adventure-bound campers can canoe the Hudson—or, just enjoy the sweeping views from your picnic table. For family-friendly swimming and biking, head east to Cherry Plain State Park.

To the west, Thompson’s Lake Campground is a popular summer retreat. Near your tent or RV site, the calm waters and sandy beach welcome swimmers and anglers. In the winter, join the locals in ice fishing and cross-country skiing.

If you have some time to spare, head south to North-South Lake Campground in the Catskills. Families love the park for its horse trails, boating, and wildlife-spotting. Or, drive 2 hours to the Green Mountain National Forest. Here, you can hike a section of the Appalachian Trail or mountain-bike down wooded singletrack.

Camping near Albany is possible year-round. Winters are cold and snowy, so an RV or camping cabin can keep you comfortable. Fall, with its changing leaves and cool days, is especially beautiful.
