A small but unique piece of land that was given to a family in the 1920s by the Florida Railroad Company. It stayed in the family until we purchased it. It is unique because the surrounding area does not have much tree coverage. This is due to the ground underneath, which is a vein of grey marl. This is why the area is called the Allapattah (an Indian word for Alligator) Flats. We are hoping that our county stays the way it is so people will know what Old Florida really looks like. Minutes from I-95, but surrounded by the Allapattah Flats Wildlife Management Preserve. Located on Martin Hwy, which was recently designated as a Florida Scenic Hwy. Fifteen minutes to Stuart and thirty minutes to West Palm Beach, a world away from the hustle and bustle. Absolutely loved our stay in nettles island. Our site was beautiful and well kept. Conveniently located by bathrooms/shower houses and an absolutely breathtaking swimming pool (one of two!) . We can’t wait until our next visit to nettles island, thank You for a wonderful get a way. We really enjoyed our time.

Staying at Jereme's place was really unique. The farm animals and neighbors were pleasant and generous - even got some eggs. The concrete slab was flat and the roof would be real nice if you got rain.

Convenient amenities and a scenic lakefront view. Our Host Joe was welcoming and thoughtful. The provided kayaks/canoes were handy for fishing along with the dock and plenty of space. The site is adjacent to their garage which provided power and hose water - plenty of privacy.

The hosts were very friendly and helpful. They met us upon arrival to give us a lay of the land. Gave some helpful tips on backing into the site as it was a bit tight. Not a problem to get into just good to know what you’re getting into. Would stay again.

Someday I hope to have a property as well maintained and welcoming as this Hipcamp! Until then, I’m saving this spot for future trips. The holiday decorations added such a magical touch to our stay, and I absolutely loved that our dog could roam freely on the fully fenced property. It made our visit feel extra relaxed and special.

Weekend Trip to Taste of Old Florida

We did tent camping in this ground. We had a great time there. In between each site there’s enough space to get some privacy. We were in front of the pond and the view was nice. There’s some noise from the road near but it didn’t bother us. Thank you for having us!! Definitely recommend.
