- Days in the summer can get pretty hot and shade is hard to come by, so plan a day trip to Florence river park, (about 30 minutes drive)and hop in the Arkansas river and cool off.

The views are quite beautiful! There are extra acres with some hiking. Very peaceful with a view of the Pikes Peak mountain range and others.
We are at the foothills of the Wet Mountains and just 25 miles to Pueblo. Other nearby attractions if you’re exploring the vicinity are : Lake Pueblo State Park is 35 miles,
25 miles to Bishops Castle, and 11 miles to the town of Beulah.

Dead wood on the property is OK to burn but please do not burn your trash. All trash and waste needs to be packed out. There are trash cans and restrooms at the rest stop at I-25 and Highway 165. Firewood is available to purchase nearby in Colorado City at Ace Hardware and others.
You will have your choice of Camp site #1 and/or #2. They have flat mulched areas for an RV/Camper or for tent camping. Each has a fire ring and picnic table. Both sites allow room to turn around an RV or camper. Bring your own toilet for now. There is minimal shade available, so plan accordingly. Potable water is available at the blue ground hydrant in front of the little cabin to the west. It takes about 10 seconds to start running.
Use of firearms is prohibited. No fireworks are allowed.

Don't forget we're at over 9,000 feet elevation and temperatures and weather conditions can vary greatly. Be prepared for all seasons!!!

Fresh eggs are available for purchase (when the girls are cooperating) by the dozen, or half dozen (see "extras"). You are welcome to go "visit" the chickens. Their coop is next to the large blue shop/barn.

Camp Penguin at Wandering Penguin Ranch (facebook.com/CampPenguin) in southern Colorado is about a 3 hour drive from the Denver metro area, two hours from Colorado Springs and just under an hour north west of Canon City. We provide a variety of site options to choose from including tent sites, car/van/truck sites, and rustic trailer site options - all with NO amenities (NO electric/septic/water, etc). Additional vehicle parking on the property can be accommodated for groups with more than one vehicle. Please provide type of camper/tent and number of vehicles at booking so hosts can help direct you to the best site option available.
Guests can relax around our small pond or roam freely around our 35-acre property. There is both hiking and fishing at Badger Creek only a short drive away. Waugh Mountain State Trust Land is another hiking option and is also just a short drive up the road (*NOTE: the State of Colorado now requires a valid hunting/fishing license to access state trust lands)! Additionally, we are about 45-90 minutes away from a variety of alternative adventures! Some of these include Salida, Cripple Creek, Eleven Mile Reservoir, Paradise Cove Swimming Hole, Florissant Fossil Beds, Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center, Manitou Incline, Manitou Cliff Dwellings, Cave of the Winds, Seven Falls, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, Royal Gorge Bridge and Park, Royal Gorge Dinosaur Experience, several rafting/zipline and Jeep tour companies, Westcliffe, Bishop Castle and Canon City including Skyline Drive, Tunnel Drive, Royal Gorge Train, Museum of Colorado Prisons and The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey. I have no clue how we didn’t know about this place sooner! I don’t think I have been so happy with an RV spot for a while. Not only the sites are great , but if you have a horse , you can bring it too ? Wow ! On top of that , there is shooting range on the property, tower where you can look at the stars , you can stay in a cabin , tiny home , RV or a tent . Want to try riding a horse ? They offer lessons , and if that isn’t your gem , you can rent an ATV or simply go for a round of pool in rec center. Did I mention hot tub and sauna ? Yeah , they have that too!

I would like to recommend Dan's land considering I booked and looked forward to camping MTNMN Ranch based on HICAMP options. Sadly, I was unable to reach the site to stay.
I have been talking to friends about me finding Dan to be a remarkable person with communicating, he is understanding and I can't wait to be able to rebook. Plus, I can't wait for friends who plan to visit CO opt to stay and share their experience with me.

We loved our (too short) stay. It is a remarkable spot: at the summit of a tall hill and with 360 degree panoramic views of the Spanish Peaks (south), Cuerna Verde (west), Fishers Peak Mesa (southeast), prairie buttes to the east, and the Wet Mtns north. There were plenty of windbreaks to shelter behind and there's a cool bike/hike path around the back side of the ridge. A great vantage point!

What an amazing experience this was, staying at Erin's hostel! I'd never been to a hostel before but can say with confidence I'll definitely come back through the next time I'm in Colorado Springs. The atmosphere was welcoming, supportive, and I felt extremely safe. It felt a bit like a grown-up summer camp--there were activities every day, nightly dinners (for a super reasonable fee), and it was the perfect place to set up with my shuttle bus for a couple of days as I passed through. I would highly recommend it!
