High up in the San Luis Valley, the Colorado Sports Ranch and Refuge occupies over 150 acres. Joyful Journey Hot Springs is 10 minutes away, and Great Sand Dunes National Park is visible from the property. The ranch is uniquely suited to athletes and other fitness enthusiasts with a 5k running/walking trail and a well stocked indoor/outdoor gym with kettlebells, TRX equipment, squat and bench racks, plyo boxes, bands, rowing and cycling machines, basketball hoop, and all manner of agility equipment. Gym cost is $10 per person or $25 for a group of four. Gym users must sign a liability waiver. The camping area is about 1/4 mile from the main house and about 500 meters from the gym and potable water. The highest concentration of 14,000 foot peaks in Colorado is in this area with trail heads in nearby Crestone. Rock climbers and rock hounds will enjoy Penitente Canyon about 40 minutes west. White water rafting and all manner of paddling are available on the Arkansas River in nearby Salida, as is access to some of the finest mountain biking in the world, particularly the Monarch Crest Trail. World class fly fishing can be found on the Arkansas River, and Blue Mesa Reservoir is home to all varieties of trout, pike, and kokanee salmon. We are happy to arrange tours with local guides and adventure providers. The Colorado Sports Ranch and Refugee is a working, off-grid, sustainable homestead. Campers have access to a portable toilet, outdoor shower, and potable (drinkable/safe) well water. The Crestone area has officially received designation as International Dark Sky. This means we are extremely careful about light pollution. The views of the night sky are magnificent because there is no light pollution. You will be amazed by the vast numbers of stars visible from our property. (We may have the telescope setup for you to use while you're here.) You'll be close to the Great Sand Dunes National Park - the tallest and most amazing sand dunes in North America. Plan to make this a day-trip - no one should ever miss the Dunes! You're able to see the Dunes from just about everywhere on our property. Look to the south and be amazed! We are also close to several natural hot springs resorts with both family friendly and clothing optional locations. And the choices for hiking are too numerous to list. The surrounding valley has lots to offer from the quant little towns and coffee shops to the home style meals at the restaurants. and all the hot springs are amazing.Your site is overlooking the Sangre de Christo mountain range. The land is Alpine desert with sagebrush and ground cactus and incredible star gazing. There are 2 great hiking trails within a couple miles. There are 3 hot springs within 30 minutes. The Great sand dunes national park is within 1hr. The San Luis valley offers, hiking, mountain biking, ATV trail, Horse back riding, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, rafting, refuges for wildlife watching.

If you're into offroading, check out Marshall pass rd/Poncha creek Rd. Medano pass is another one of our favorites and is an amazing way to finish out a day in Sand Dunes National Park. Joyful Journey hot springs is 3 mins away and for $15 you can soak all day long and enjoy a hot shower before returning back to camp. An hour to Great Sand Dunes National Park. 3 hours from Durango, 3 hours to Denver, 2 hours from colorado springs. 30 mins from Salida. Mailbox available to get whatever packages you need!

The High Desert Ranch Colorado

This land was part of a large ranch in the 1980s. The main ranch is still up and running but this parcel was used for many purposes over the years. After over a year of clean up we are happy to be able to open the gates and welcome guests to our little valley ranch. Recently Featured in USA Todays Ten Best! Our property has 360 degree mountains views with the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range as our back yard. Nearby you can find many different trail systems for all kinds of outdoor enthusiasts. From hiking to jeeping, ATV or dirt biking and equestrians - you can find it all! We are surrounded by ranch land and state land with Wildlife Refuge just two miles away. We also offer accommodation for those with livestock, just make sure you chat with us in your initial message. We are also close to BLM, and National Forest as well as several hot springs and the Great Sand Dunes. We are still under construction and making changes often so bear with us while we continue to add and change things for the better!

Camp alongside the Arkansas River (considered Gold Medal for the quality of trout per acre) with white water rafting June-Labor Day. We accommodate tents, vans, or RV's or we can provide a RV or tent. Restrooms and showers are easily accessible. We offer bank fishing, fly fishing lessons, guided fishing on the property and Rocky Mountain National Park or will arrange guided tours for fishing the entire Arkansas River, white water rafting, horseback riding, or having a zipline adventure. When fishing from the bank, no lures or or treble hooks and catch and release only. Pictures welcome! There are several Colorado mountains (fourteeners) to hike/climb in the vicinity. We have 4 acres on the waters of the Arkansas River. Our pond will be accessible next year. We will create the adventure you deserve - from guided fishing, fly fishing lessons, (children and adults) or fishing from the bank. Zipline, jeep, and horseback tours are not far from the campground. We can recommend several white water rafting companies based on your specific needs.
