Welcome to Camp Wilder! We are an off-the-beaten-path camp offering peace and solitude. The cabin is very special to my family and me. It was passed down as a mining claim from my grandmother who founded it in the '60s. The vision for the land was simply perfect. A small 10 x 10 cabin with the whole mountain to explore and whoever they wished to bring with them. The town of Nederland is 10 minutes down the road where you can fish at Baker Reservoir. Lots of fun little stores in town to keep the family busy. Wildlife is everywhere up by the cabin/campsite, always remember don't leave food lying around with lots of great things to look for around the magical town of Nederland. The cabin sleeps up to 8 with the futon downstairs being very comfortable and 3" foam upstairs in the loft for more sleeping area. Bring your sleeping bags to stay cozy at night. There are lanterns inside to light up your night with a wood stove to keep you warm at night. The ground around it is sloped so you may have a hard time setting up any tents around the cabin. The grocery store is in Nederland where you can buy food, Coleman green propane bottles, gallon jugs of water and wood. There is a 3 burner Coleman, stove to cook on with limited pots & pans as well as silverware. Road disclaimer, the road to the cabin is one lane dirt road. The drive up to the cabin is pretty good but the turn onto the single dirt road to the cabin has a slight dip, if you have a low-clearance car it may bottom out when you are turning so be careful. No Trailers. They will not be able to turn around once there. Recommend vehicles with AWD. Go 3.4 miles up Caribou road. Turn right @ yellow stakes go .4 miles. Park on the left. Hike down to the cabin between yellow stakes. We are @ 10,000 feet and it is a slight hike to the cabin. Go 3.4 miles up Caribou road. Turn right @ yellow stakes go .4 miles When leaving please make sure both door locks are locked, put the key in the lock box and mix the code for the next camper.

Weekend Trip to A-Lodge Boulder

Deer came right down to the Lodge, plenty of creature comforts in the kitchen, jacuzzi tub, hot tub, with wifi and central heat. Everything was clean and nicely decorated. Trailhead on site for a good hike, or another right across the hwy. King Suite was spacious, check in was easy, be ready for an extra deposit fee.

5 nights at A-Lodge Boulder

I booked a tent site at A-Lodge and it exceeded every expectation. The property is tucked into a peaceful mountain pocket with just the right mix of wilderness and comfort. You get the feeling of camping in nature, but with clean facilities, hot showers, and a friendly staff that actually cares about your stay. The tent sites are spaced out perfectly—private enough to feel like you’re on your own adventure, but close enough to walk to amenities. Waking up to the sound of the creek and the cool morning air was the best way to start the day. Trails are right next to the lodge, so I was able to hike straight from my campsite without ever getting in my car. The staff deserves special mention. They were welcoming, knowledgeable about the area, and gave genuinely helpful tips for hikes, food, and local spots. The community vibe around the lodge, especially in the evening, made the experience even better—quiet when you want rest, relaxed when you feel social. We booked through HipCamp last minute and I am glad they were still able to accommodate us. The drive to the ranch was just beautiful! You’ll pass by a couple of ski resorts and beautiful small towns that are worthy of visiting! The ranch it self was surrounded by water, we booked Camp 24 and it was just perfect for me and my boyfriend and his Sprinter Van. It was also in front of the lake/river so that was a great plus! We didn’t book any rooms so my 5 star rating is for the toilet that was well maintained and cleaned. We arrived after 5pm so there was no one to check us in but we really appreciate the welcome map addressed to me that led us to our campsite. Another 5 star. And lastly, the ranch is just perfect for first timers like us as it was very accessible. There’s a small town 25mins away that has a City Market and pretty much everything you’ll need. We bought 2 bags of wood but that was definitely not enough. Luckily there were a lot of old woods on the ground that we were able to use. We also tried to fish but no luck on that. Overall, the experience was amazing and I can’t wait to go back with our friends there.

I drove out to Colorado all the way from Connecticut to go camping at Arapaho Valley Ranch. Everything about the experience was amazing. Very peaceful, beautiful views and a great staff. Will definitely be camping there again in the future.

Byron and Dot were incredibly friendly and welcoming hosts — you can tell they truly enjoy sharing their space. They made me feel right at home and had some great recommendations for local trails and scenic spots that really made my stay even better. The property was peaceful, well-kept, and a perfect base to explore the area. Would definitely stay again!

Sunset runs LATE so you sooo much time to enjoy the sunset and golden hour.

My family and I really enjoyed camping at Dot and Byron's boondocking site. I have a 24 ft. travel trailer which fit nicely in their spot. The area is beautiful to say the least. Dot and Byron were very hospitable and very helpful in many ways to include providing information on the area and helping me get my camper in place. It was quiet and peaceful even with other guests on site. Initially, the proximity of the workshop and permanent trailer was slightly off putting but with all the goodness that feeling faded fast. We had a great time and I felt relaxed there.

Where to go

Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park

Highway 34 runs through the Big Thompson River Canyon between Loveland and Estes Park, providing epic views of the rollicking river as the foothills turn into snowy peaks at one of the eastern entrances to Rocky Mountain National Park. Estes Park offers private and public campgrounds for RVs and tent camping. If you don’t need hookups, the campgrounds in Rocky Mountain National Park boast scenic panoramas and easy access to alpine adventures.

Loveland’s big brother to the north, Fort Collins, is another adventurous northern Colorado basecamp packed with local brewpubs and restaurants. Enjoy a literal taste of the Rockies after time hiking, biking, fishing, and exploring the natural landscapes. The Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests covers 1.5 million acres of scenic landscapes in north central Colorado. Over 50 public camping areas can be found, with some at elevations topping 10,000 feet. Some are more suitable for tent camping, while others welcome motorhomes and RVs. Check each campground’s site to see if amenities like electricity, running water, and dump stations are available, as some have limited services, while offering rustic camping in a pristine environment.

When to go

The weather varies greatly by season and by elevation across the greater Loveland region. Summer brings comfortable temperatures for hiking, paddling, and biking—you may even be warm enough to hit a swim beach. Don’t head out without grabbing some extra layers, however, as temperatures may become brisk after dark, especially in the mountains. Winter often brings an abundance of snow, providing a fresh landscape for skiing, snowboarding, and sledding. Freezing temperatures and dodgy road conditions may make it less-than-ideal for camping, but many an intrepid camper has found sublime serenity in the off season.
