This was originally a Girl Scout camp called Singing Pines back in the 30’s. You’ll see as you roam around some of the original buildings and structures. It hasn’t been in operation as a Girl Scout camp for over 30 years. The bigger building is an Airbnb for groups. They will also have access to the lake.
DIRECTIONS:
Take Exit for Angeles Crest Hwy (Hwy 2) from the 210
Go North, up the mountain for 29 miles
Turn left on Sulpher Springs Rd
Go about a mile and you will see a Singing Pines sign up on a hill on the right side.
There is a white gate which is usually open but if it's closed go ahead and open it.
Go down that driveway about a mile and turn left at the fork.
Follow that road down and around the lake staying to the right. Once you passed the lake there will be a little uphill and the location is on the left.

The Skoolie is a converted short bus with two love seats that convert to an RV queen bed, sink, stove top, dinette, and over head lights. Outside is a private meadow with a short walk to a small lake. You can bring your fishing gear. It's stocked with Bass and Bluegill. Outside the Skoolie is a picnic table, fire pit (firewood $10 a bundle) and a hammock. Up the hill, a very short walk is the private campground toilet facility. This is not shared with anyone else.
No cell phone reception no linens bring a sleeping bag or warm blankets. You can charge your phone in the Skoolie for a sunrise alarm or just to take pictures.

From the tent campsite, you look out for 20 miles and see nothing but nature across small mountains and canyons all the way to the peaks of Angeles National Forest in the distance. The campsite is a large flat area. For a trailer or RV it's a great place to park and the view is towards wide open spaces. With a tent or if you want more pure nature, you can drive out onto the property further towards the small ruin of the old homesteader's cabin or beyond. The property has a long-abandoned gold mine and circular arrastres where miners used mules to break up rocks. Nearby Acton has pick-your-own apples/pears/peaches at Bloom farms. We are at 3000 feet with strong sun during the day and cool mountains air at night. The camping is set away from structures, but if you want to stroll, closer to the ranch buildings, we have friendly small goats you can visit if interested and horses and a donkey to say hello to across the corral fence.

We are the largest Arabian horse rescue in the United States. We are on 100 acres, but are currently using only 10 fenced acres for our horses. We have an average of 75 horses on our property. Most live in larger areas or paddocks in group "herds".
We focus on rehabilitation and training with the goal of finding permanent homes for our horses. However, we have about 30+ horses who are "sanctuary horses", either because they are older, or were traumatized, or have health issues, thus will not be rideable. Please bring your own chairs. We have a serviced porta-potty with potable water access.
Camp Fire: Because of fire danger, there are no campfires possible.
We have a working gold mine across the street, that can be hiked up to, to a certain point. We have lots of desert trails surrounding us.
Activities: Learn about horses and help at the horse rescue, feeding and watering, giving horses treats.
All proceeds from your camping on our property goes to support the horses at our rescue.

We are the largest Arabian horse rescue in the United States. We are on 100 acres, but are currently using only 10 fenced acres for our horses. We have an average of 75 horses on our property. Most live in larger areas or paddocks in group "herds".
We focus on rehabilitation and training with the goal of finding permanent homes for our horses. However, we have about 30+ horses who are "sanctuary horses", either because they are older, or were traumatized, or have health issues, thus will not be rideable. They get to live their lives out with us.Learn more about this land:Come pitch your tent on our horse rescue ranch. Two spots are near our little Western Town, you can even sleep in the jail or inside the general store. Another location is near the horses or in a more secluded area.
We have two spots to park RVs as well.
You can visit with the horses, while enjoying some idyllic beautiful high desert vistas. At night, you can see the city lights from a distance, but it is far enough to really see the stars in the night sky (no light pollution).
Please bring your own chairs. We have a serviced porta-potty with potable water access.
Camp Fire: Because of fire danger, there are no campfires possible.
We have a working gold mine across the street, that can be hiked up to, to a certain point. We have lots of desert trails surrounding us.
Activities: Learn about horses and help at the horse rescue, feeding and watering, giving horses treats.
All proceeds from your camping on our property goes to support the horses at our rescue.

Run by three generations, our ranch has been in our family for more than 70 years. We opened our doors to the public in 2014 to help support feeding our animals, bred and rescued, after the Powerhouse Fire almost burned us out. We’ve survived a county quarantine(2018-2019), the COVID Lockdowns (2021-2022), the Lake Fire (2020), and the Hurricane Kay burn scar debris flow and flood (9/11/22), depending on hard work and strong family and community bonds. In addition to camping and educational tours, we host private and community events, grow and sell produce and eggs, hatch and sell chicks, rescue ratites, and support the local bee population (which gives us RAW honey to sell), and are working to open a private U-pick-by-appointment orchard. We are all animal lovers, and conservationists, and try to do our part to ensure our children inherit a healthy and viable world. This is our home where we live, work, love, and play. We enjoy sharing our space with visitors who we hope learn about ostrich and make some great memories.

Less them 3 hours from Los Angeles, this private property is 2 acres of the secluded desert for you to enjoy! Just outside California City, there are miles of roads for the off-road enthusiast and some of the best stargazing in California. (As the Mayor once said, you can see more stars in California City then you could in Los Angeles). There is also great rockhounding and hiking opportunities! Campers can set up camp anywhere on the property but we also have an area cleared off for tent or car camping. There is also a firepit - enjoy and have a huge bon fire!
4 wheel drive highly recommended due to sand and dirt roads
Fires are allowed but must be completely put out, and campers must bring all their own supplies. All off-roading must get permit before hand - contact host for details.

What a fantastic site! John has created a beautiful space and his hospitality was exceptional. We watched sunrise from the patio, and at dusk, we walked around the trail he created. He had a freezer for us to use, well-maintained grounds free of bugs, hot showers, clean toilets, and a very peaceful environment. It was also a short drive into town. We will be back! Beautiful land! There’s a nice trail (~30 minute walk) around the property with views in all directions. Our dog especially enjoyed the walk. The grounds, common spaces and toilets were very clean. I appreciated that the sink had running water (hot and cold). The stars were beautiful at night as there’s no light pollution around. What a comfortable stop on our long long roadtrip.

John was quick to respond to questions about the fire ban and using firepits prior to the booking. He was very helpful with suggestions and providing driving instructions. When I got to the campsite, John was generous with his time explaining the unique property and kind enough to offer a different site if the one I booked was not to my liking (Campsite #1 was perfect with lots of space, shade and close to restrooms/showers!). It was so thoughtful of him to check in on me in the evening and offer a discount on the firepit (as it was getting chilly) :) All facilities were clean, well built and maintained. Well maintained hiking trail around the property, great way to take in the views!
Friendly neighbors, good coffee and dining spots around town, museums and wineries - all within a short driving distance (~20 mins) of the property. Highly recommend!!

Weekend Trip to Tiny Home Cabin in the Hills
Araceli is a wonderful, friendly and generous host. Her land is beautiful and provides a peaceful and relaxing place to get away and spend time with someone special, or in solitude.
Her two dogs are friendly and visit occasionally. This was a wonderful camping experience with an actual comfortable bed. There is a shower with hot water, don’t forget soap and towels.

What a wonderful place! John was very kind and obviously puts a lot of work into maintaining the campsites and land. He took the time to show us around when we arrived which made us feel very welcome. The campsite was pristine, the bathroom was very clean, and the walking trail around the property was fantastic. If you're looking for a relaxing off the grid experience this is it. My little dog had a wonderful time too.

Really lovely stay. Was only there one night, and we got in very late, but John was completely accommodating and an amazing host. The little cabin is a wonder, and all built by the host. Incredible. We brought king-size bedding to fit the king size fold-out bed and had an absolutely magical little stay.

The man who gave us a tour was very knowledgable; we had never learned so much about ostriches/birds and we had been to other ostrich farms before! Also gave us great tips on where to travel in the area around the ranch. Definitely would visit again, very peaceful place to stay.

This is a great spot for a hop over, or for a big group if you want to book all the tent spots together. The cooking area is communal, and clean and they were very accommodating answering questions about the propane campfire and grill. We went a weekend that was particularly windy, and had to cut our trip short so know the winds can get really powerful in this area. But there was also a wind event in LA county so it may have been exaggerated for us. Regardless, we enjoyed dinner and karaoke at the restaurant down the road where kids were welcome, and had coffee at a new coffee shop with live music closer to Lake Elizabeth. So some lovely things to explore nearby!
Our kids loved having the playground equipment and meeting the ostriches which are wild to see up close. Beautiful views in the morning as well!

My husband and I truly enjoyed our stay at the Canned Ham! The property is beautifully decorated giving a whimsical Yosemite feel. The camper is small but extremely cozy and intimate. The jacuzzi is awesome and the sauna is a must! Will definitely come back!
