Weekend Trip to Azalea River

This small cabin is wonderful, yet maybe not for everyone. I loved the proximity to Jedediah National Forrest, and the site right on the Smith River (literally feet from the edge). It was a cozy little space, with just enough amenities to be comfortable and functional. The main bed is up a ladder in a loft (must be comfortable to climb up and down it), and the shower and toilet are both outside and separate from the cabin. But the views are spectacular, just wished it was warm enough to go swimming (maybe next time). Would highly recommend, especially for those who don't mind a mix of comfort and roughing it together.

I loved my stay here. Jacob answered my phone call when I had difficulty getting into the property and everything went smootly after that. The river was beautiful, and the bed was very comfortable. Loved the close proximity to the many redwood groves nearby, particulary Jedidiah Smith State park. Location was very private, and completly fenced in, and I felt totally comfortable.

The host are some of the most welcoming people and truly make you feel like family. They did not hesitate to invite me over to their campfire where we talked for hours. The sites were clean and well maintained. Additionally the bathrooms were spotless, and the showers had hot and cold water. The site is also great for those wanting to explore the outdoors as it is in close proximity to the redwood national and state parks.

Our kind of place, Madrone, Chinkapin and other species produced a wonderful fragrance. Great shade trees to sit under that also had a good river view. The site included a fire ring, firewood, and solar lights for the night. There was a path to the river. Private, and our dog loved it. We appreciated the thought behind our site .

Such a beautiful place, and they’ve really thought of everything!! Tea house, sauna, river access, tons of cute little touches to the property that makes it so special. We stayed in the dome, which was incredible. The acoustics are amazing and they have a synthesizer in there so you can make your own music!! Amy met us and showed us around, prepared our hot tub session, and was just so nice and helpful. There are two cute little kitties who are very friendly and roam the flower covered property. Truly a dream!!!

This is a very neat and well maintained place to camp! Great hookups and nice clean space and convenient amenities (bathroom, shower and laundry). Keep in mind the bathroom and laundry area is only open until 8pm but if you can live with that you'll enjoy your stay. Beautiful rogue river views immediately next to you.

This was our second visit - the first had been in the dead of heat, August, and we LOVED it, and had planned to come back during winter/early spring on purpose. We wanted to see this most amazing river, and the gorgeous trees and landscape again. Last time we camped (Tent), and this time we went with the Forest Gnome Yurt due to the season. We just loved it with the amazing windows and stars. The ability to fall asleep and wake up with the sounds of the river, the birds, the other fox/turkey/whatever noises, was awesome. My husband joked that I didn't need my normal "fall asleep" apps as we were living it. Great site. The tea room and the kitchen are great. We didn't have time for the sauna this trip, though my husband gleefully caught (and returned) a lovely trout in the early morning. We will be back!

FYI, Hipcamps map for site locations is not correct. Two go next to the driveway and the other four follow the creek. From the South GPS is very accurate to our driveway. Coming from the North, GPS may drop you a few driveways away as that is the property line. Keep driving about another 1/8th mile until you see the large red "Cornerstone Ranch" sign. That is our driveway. Welcome... The ranch offers 6 different campsites. Campfires are allowed (outside of burn bans), and there is a toilet in off season and Port-A-Potties during the summer on site as well. Reviews from guests: "During the night we could hear Elk and the nearby nature! When we woke up we got to visit with the horses, use the really clean port-potty, and chat with Bonnie and Chris the Hosts. They have tons of recommendations, but our favorite was the Indian creek cafe across the river. The areas so great and clean and the host cares about their guests! Would recommend!"

This is a very rustic, old-fashioned campground located at the end of a neighborhood next to the river. We are adjacent to tribal lands. We are not responsible for their culture or their As mentioned this is also a RV Park so there will be RVs on site. It is an open field campground dispersed with trees. Neighbors will be present. We are located off the beaten path so we don’t have that many people here on the off-season. If you’d like to be in seclusion then this is the place for you . The river access is right over the levee just a few minutes walk from your campsite. Fishing on the river is allowed but you need a license. We are near the woods and river so wildlife is present. Please make sure your food is put away nightly to discourage critters from coming into camp. The campground is just a short drive from a selection of hiking or biking trails. As well as other attractions like the Jet Boat Tours and Trees of Mystery. Located at the end of a glen cell service in this area can be spotty or non existent depending on the carrier. Wifi is available we just upgraded to a WiFi that should reach most of the park. We welcome people of all seasons. Just ask that you are kind and respectful to each other. Well Behaved Pets Are Allowed. Children and Laughter are Always Welcome. We look forward to your visit. August and September there will be fisher persons in the campground. So be warned of early morning engine noise as they head out to the river for fishing. Electric cars that want to charge there is a $10 fee at time of service. Must make arrangements ahead of a time because 50 amp services are limited. Plus you need to bring your own adapters.

The campground land is remotely located on private property and perfectly located for excursions to the Pacific Ocean, Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, the Smith River National Recreation Area, and the Pacific Coast Ranges and mountain lakes such as the Devil's Punchbowl, Buck Lake, and Raspberry Lake. Relax and free you mind while camping on 120+ acres of private property under starry skies with almost no light or noise pollution. You are not alone on the mountain as other people live here in the wild. You only have access to the campground and a nearby pond. The road to get there is two and a half miles up the mountain, the first mile is paved and the other mile and a half is gravel. The road is maintained by the county and used daily by others that live and work here. In the surrounding area you can enjoy hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, surfing, mushrooming, berry-picking, beachcombing, birdwatching, and countless other outdoor activities. French Hill Trail is a few more miles up the mountain road. The campsites have picnic tables and fire rings, and campers are provided with 5 gallons of potable water. An outdoor, COLD-water Artesian shower, out in the open mountain air with the wild things and an outhouse with a compost toilet are also provided. Bundles of firewood are available for an extra charge when you book your campsite. The campsites are set within a deciduous and pine forest at about 1913 feet in elevation. There is a pond on the property, but its purpose is for wildlife habitat ONLY, so water activities are NOT allowed. NO swimming, NO fishing, NO boating, NO trapping, etc. The wild things live here! The property owner has a dog, three cats, and a menagerie of yard birds such as turkeys, peacocks, guinea hens, chickens, ducks, geese, etc. They do make noise! Kirk has lived off-grid for over twenty years and holds a wealth of information about the Gasquet/Del Norte County area. Perhaps the most interesting feature of the property is that it has had documented Sasquatch encounters over the past twenty years that have been published in "Tribal Bigfoot" (D. Paulides 2009). Kirk can tell you about his experiences with this and other phenomena on the property.

Redwoods Bend Retreat

The Redwoods Bend Retreat is a place to get away from it all. Located on the Yurok reservation right on the Klamath River just outside Orick, CA, we are "off the grid", through a Redwood forest and over a mountain down into the Klamath River valley. We have a 5 acre meadow, and orchard with 50 trees, peaches pears, apples, cherries, plums, pluots, apricots and grapes. We are right on the Klamath river. It's a great place to come and recharge your internal batteries. There is no cellphone service and none of our sites have internet service. Our Main House was built in 1952 and retains the flavor of the 50’s. It houses a kitchen, dining hall, a living room, two bedrooms and a bathroom with a bathtub and shower. Our log-built Lodge overlooks the Klamath River with 3 bedrooms, a full kitchen, bathroom and wrap-around covered porch. Our Pumpkin and Blue Cottages. They are close to the double Yellow Shower house and toilets, and they have hot and cold running water, a propane cooktop, and a wood stove for heat. We do NOT have refrigeration, and our solar batteries or generator provides us lights at night. Campers who use our Cottages may use their own sleeping bags, but we have beds with mattresses and pillows and clean bedding. We also have an Upper Barn bedroom and half-bath rental. Our two-story Riverview Yurt appeals to folks who want a full kitchen, a private shower and flush toilet overlooking the Klamath river from our 50 x 50 foot upper deck. Luscious to sit outside and watch the river flow by during the day, and to let the water lull you to sleep at night. For families (up to 8), folks who like to fish, or old friends who just want a very special get-away. Each of our six campsites have a picnic table and a fire pit. Our Maple River, Grotto River and Pepperwood River sites overlook the gorgeous Klamath River. Our Morning Meadow, Orchard Meadow, and Deer Meadow sites are close to our 5 acre meadow where blacktail deer graze in the evenings. We have a Yellow double Shower House with two separate sides, each with a toilet, sink and shower and on demand hot water, so folks don't have to wait. There's also a new Camp Shower at the corner of the orchard for our campers, along with two outhouses for camper use, one at the bottom of the road down to the meadow, and another in the woods just past Deer Meadow Camp. We see lots of wildlife; silver foxes, a bald eagle and a family of river otters downstream, vultures, blue heron, occasionally an osprey will fly overhead clutching a freshly caught salmon and call to each other to brag about it! There are rare sightings of timid black bears who run from humans, but sometimes can be seen grazing in the meadow with the black-tail deer. We're surrounded by old logging trails made by the lumber companies 80 years ago when they clear cut the old growth redwood on our side of the mountain, and now it's completely reforested with 200 ft tall Doug Fir, Madrone, Cedar, Oak, other pine species and Pepper wood trees, and we have written permission from the Green Diamond company to allow guest to hike on their adjacent properties.

Welcome to "Animal Land" 27 acres, private, secluded campsite, fantastic river views, lots of space to tent out with private river access for your outdoor camping in experience. YES, there is a kitchen structure, shade with hot and cold running water, propane 2 burner stove for cooking, table, food composter, benches, BEAR PROOF BOXES for food, electrical outlet, lights, a grill for BBQ, and a camp fire pit and fire wood provided. There is also, a clean out door platform toilet facility close by and a clean serviced porta pot and hand washing station. YES, bears are here and I have provided bear proof boxes for food or in your vehicle is safe. You should bring your own pots, pans, plates, utensils for cooking. I can provide anything for you if you forget or may need. No cell phone service, food and gas is expensive here so bring your own supplies. Electric vehicles should be charged full, before you come to Animal Land, sorry no charging here. For sure bring your binoculars, and or a spotting scope, There is abundant wildlife to see, Bald eagle, osprey, otter, mink, deer, blue herons, fox, elk and black bears often. You can also hike or backpack into the Trinity Alps not far drive from here at Animal Land. At night, no city lights, so the STARGAZING is fabulous! Larger groups can book upon request should you want to book for more than 10 campers. Please note: RVs, campers, trailers, 24-25ft is the largest my camp can handle. LOOK out for bears, skunks, scorpions and beware of snakes, ticks. Please CONSERVE the WATER and the electricity. Keep a small fire and take care of your trash, I will recycle bottles, aluminum, cans for you. Just be CAREFUL all the time and ENJOY the Klamath River.
