Originally called "Camp Four," it was the fourth camp established by the lumber company as they progressed east from Fort Bragg along the current route of the California Western Railroad. In 1933, the Union Lumber Company donated the property to the Boy Scouts of America. The Boy Scouts began using the site in the summer 1934 and continue to use the property for several weeks every summer.In 2012, Allan Hemphill, his son Brian, and a small group of family friends purchased the property from the Boy Scouts. The Hemphill family has been care taking Camp Noyo for over 60 years. We decieded to open the property to the public in 2015 for camping in the summer.

The amount and variety of wildlife is astonishing, with bear, deer, turkeys, fox, coyote, bobcat, Eagles, River otter, salmon and steelhead, with a wide variety of songbirds during migration. Easy access from road, close to town, tall oak trees, privacy, creek with salmon within a five minute walk, mountains, wildlife, barn owl nest box. Guests love staying here: "Elderberry camp was really great! It was a large site, plenty of space, shade, and parking. Very peaceful and good distance between other sites although we were pretty much the only campers out there. Outhouse was clean and there was drinking water. We spent most of our Saturday in Eel River which was great. The water was perfect for swimming and fishing, our husbands caught some big ones. Feel free to look around while you are here, but please be mindful of your surroundings as this is a working farm with hazards around. There are people coming and going frequently throughout the day, and work usually stops just after sunset. We have 2 RV hookups, both with water and 30 amp power. One hook up is approximately 25-30ft away from the plug, so please be prepared with a long enough cord to use for your power. No sewer hookups available. Please bring your own hose for water. We have a fire pit for use, but limited wood supply. Please bring some wood if possible. Wide open lawn area, shaded tree area and farm space available to explore. Please be mindful of the other people on the property! Enjoy our home and let us know if you need anything during your stay.
