Sauna
A little haven of warmth and relaxation.
★ ★ ★ AS SEEN ON YOUTUBE ★ ★ ★ OUTDOOR CHEF LIFE — Taku Kondo has cooked at our fire pit. CATCH N COOK CALIFORNIA — Kevin Smith, PhD archaeologist and one of the best foraging instructors in the state, hosts classes here. NICK KRATKA — the one and only! Over 12 acres of coastal pine forest steps from the Mendocino Coast. Tall, wind-sculpted trees hung with lace lichen. Huckleberry, salal and fern underfoot. Duff so soft you can hear the fog move. This is a coastal botanical garden. What you get is a working coastal forest and as little as we can manage between you and the place. Four camping zones, each named for a mushroom that grows here, spread apart for privacy and connected to Candy Cap Meadow — the fire pit, the bathhouse, and the middle of camp life. THE SAUNA Come in cold off the headlands, stoke up the woodstove and let the heat of the redwood sauna work its way into your bones while the fog moves through the pines outside. There's a hot outdoor shower and a composting toilet in the same bathhouse. Water on the property is non-potable — bring a gallon per person per day. You're a short walk from MacKerricher State Park. The Haul Road runs along the bluffs for miles in both directions — flat, paved, and one of the best coastal walks in California. Tide pools at Laguna Point. Harbor seals hauled out on the rocks. Glass Beach and the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens are both a few minutes down the road. Camp Candy Cap is a Wilderfolk property. Local instructors run hands-on classes through the season — reading the forest, mushroom identification, coastal foraging, tide pool ecology, primitive skills and more. No experience needed. Classes book separately from your site. Visit the Wilderfolk site to learn more about classes. GOOD TO KNOW -Tent camping only — no RVs or trailers.
