Marvyn’s campsite has everything needed for a peaceful camping experience 30 amp hookup, water hose, bathroom and hot shower + fast free internet. To add icing to the cake, Marvyn is very friendly and helpful giving us directions to take the free ferry across the James River to visit Williamsburg & Jamestown. Highly recommended!

I had a perfect visit. The property is easy to find, beautiful farmland, and quiet. The hosts are helpful and attentive. I especially enjoyed watching the sun rise above the trees across the field. I also appreciate the clean and comfortable bathroom with shower.

Tent camping on Marvin's land was wonderful. Marvin was kind enough to bring kindling and plenty of lighter fluid/kerosene to help us get our fire started. Outhouse was nice and clean when we arrived. Location is very close to Virginia Diner, which is a must-visit.

My stay at the farm was incredibly peaceful and relaxing. Marvin is an excellent host. Great communication and very accommodating. The hot shower and flushable toilet are definitely a nice bonus. I look forward to coming back and telling others about this hidden gem.

Absolutely loved my stay at The Sugar Shack! It was the perfect home away from home with every detail thoughtfully designed to maximize comfort and functionality. Marvin is a perfect host.
The location was ideal—peaceful and surrounded by nature, but close enough to amenities to grab anything we needed. I especially enjoyed the outdoor area; having morning coffee on the deck with scenic views was the perfect start to each day. Inside, the amenities were impressive for such a compact space. The bed was super comfortable, and the bathroom was spotless with a fantastic shower.
If you’re looking for a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle, I highly recommend this tiny home getaway. It’s a beautiful reminder that you don’t need a lot of space to feel at home. Can’t wait to return!

Marvin's property is absolutely amazing and he was a pleasureto talk to. You can tell he puts time and care into everything. Everything was well marked and the bathroom was clean. There was even a spot to rinse off our pup! 100/10 will definitely be returning!

This was my first time tent camping to relax, and Marvin was a gracious host. It was quiet and I felt safe as a single traveler. He made sure I had what I needed and greeted me upon arrival. The sites are spacious and not on top of each other. I would definitely recommend a stay at Thornton Farm.

Marvin is a wonderful host! The property is well kept and private. Our site was ready with cooking grills, fire pit, and wood when we got there. Restrooms are well kept and comfortable perfect for a weekend get away! We will definitely be returning.

This was an incredible campsite! Marvin the host was amazing and reached out right away to welcome us. When we arrived we were the only tent site in use. He let us pick whichever and we tucked ourselves away in number 2. You can really tell how much pride they take in their sites. It's beautiful and well kept. They have a safety light if you go for a late night beach run and come back at 1am as well! Our dogs were so happy and enjoyed the quiet. The field with cornhole and other games between each site and the lodging sites was fun and a nice touch. The cherry on top was the restroom and full shower. So nice! Thank you! Well definitely come back when we pass through again!

This is a sweet spot and the host is very welcoming and generous, I really enjoyed our conversation. The site is clean and very well kept. My main reservation is in the lighting. At each camp site there are solar lights installed that you can’t turn off. They come on a dusk and stay on all night. Part of what I love about camping is the dark skies. This doesn’t exist at this site. Also, as another camper noted, the door handle to the toilet room is installed backward so you can’t lock it but you could get locked in! Overall I really enjoyed my stay.

Mr Marvin was a great host. Our stay was peaceful and quiet. Not too far from stores and places to take nice drives all day. The ferry wasn’t that far either. The ferry takes you to Williamsburg, Yorktown and Gloucester. When you get over to Williamsburg area and If you are looking for a good soft serve cone ice cream visit Shoofly. The soft serve ice cream was so delicious. However, they also have snow-cones as well.

Nice property with nice amenities. My biggest issue was that the bathroom (toilet) knob is installed backwards, so you cannot lock people out while using, and consequently, people can lock you -in- the commode. Given there is no venting for the heat, somewhat dangerous.

RV/Trailer camping at Thornton Farm
My husband and I spent a wonderful holiday weekend with Marvin. This was our first time using a Hipcamp host and we are already talking about our next visit. Quiet, peaceful and private are just three of the many positive words I could use to describe Marvin's slice of sunshine. We stayed at the only RV site with water and electric hook ups. Note to RVer's: It is a pull thru but slopes slightly to the right, nothing a few plastic blocks didn't correct. Petersburg is only 30 minutes up the road with lots to see, do and eat. We will be back to Thornton's Farm very soon. Thank you so much Marvin.
