Thank you all for 2025!!! If the ground is not frozen, reach out! I may be able to book you in. Stay in our cabin at the estuary on Turners Bay where wildlife is abundant and easy to see. The Bamboo cabin is very private and has everything you need to just hang out. Saltgrass's location allows for many fun outdoor activities such as hiking at Kukutali Preserve State Park, crabbing, fishing, birding, bicycling and playing on the beach, my kids actually found a bottle with a message inside years ago. Alternatively, you could explore the many little shops in the towns of La Conner and Anacortes. There are multiple activities available, I would suggest calling ahead in order to book kayaking, rock climbing, whale watching, or a sailing charter. You could easily take a day trip to the San Juan Islands by taking a ferry ride out of Anacortes, walk on or book ahead if you are taking your car. Also, the Swinomish Casino and golf course are within two miles. While you're here you may meet our pup Turner, we also have two cats and several chickens. On the property are your hosts Jeri and Nancy, as well as our handyman Sean, Saltgrass boasts beautiful flowers, vegetable gardens, fruit trees, and yes, the Bay. We try to live harmoniously with the land. We would love to share our space with you! Due to potential freezing weather and vulnerable water pipes, we have changed our booking to making a reservation confirmation. It has been a wonderful summer for us here at Saltgrass, meeting new people and welcoming back our repeat guests. We thank you all for visiting our place and hope we meet your expectations. October 10 2025, A new addition to the bamboo cabin; we built gates that allow you to secure the deck as an outside space for your dog. The Group Camp features a huge central wood fire pit with cooking grill, and 7 adirondack chairs/2 side tables that overlook the river. The large custom outdoor kitchen (cold water) is perfect for meal prep and easy clean up. There is also a 3 burner propane stove (propane provided) . Two-8' picnic tables and a 3' X 4' serving/buffet table give plenty of seating for meals. Just minutes away you can walk to the river on a private trail. During the summer months there is typically a long sandbar. You will find stunning views in every direction with partial shade under towering cottonwoods. For safety purposes, a camp fire is allowed only in the provided fire pit. This site has space for 2 recreational vehicles (20' or less) or up to 3 tents. Current COVID restrictions apply for group size/composition. Our family has great respect for the beauty and power of the river. Care for safety must be taken on the river edges as they are steep in places, the glacial water is very cold, and it has a strong tidal current and hidden undertows. There's always something going on at the homestead, including garden and orchard work, trail building, wood cutting, construction, sawmilling, and more. Ian built this place, and has a broad knowledge of lots of homestead and sustainability topics. He loves sharing his knowledge and experience with guest, students, and interns. This land has passed through many families but was first "managed" by Salish Indians who burned the prairie and harvested native plants for food, medicine, clothing, charms and more for 10,000 years. When European settlers arrived in the 1850s, burning the prairie all but ceased and that, along with the introduction of many new exotic species of animals, crop plants and weeds, began the degradation of the landscape. Over time our site was used to graze sheep and then raise pheasants (from 1944-1999). It was slated for housing development but several citizens rose up and prevented that from happening. Now the Pacific Rim Institute, a private nonprofit organization is the steward of this precious jewel of central Whidbey and the Pacific Northwest. We have a five-acre remnant prairie with over 80 species of native plants - critical to the restoration of degraded lands throughout the Salish Sea region. We have over two miles of walking trails for you. They traverse our prairie, savannas and forests. The land is full of color when the native wildflowers bloom from early spring through early autumn. We have a Native Plant Center where we grow up to 50 species of rare native plants. Ask us for a tour.

This land has passed through many families but was first "managed" by Salish Indians who burned the prairie and harvested native plants for food, medicine, clothing, charms and more for 10,000 years. When European settlers arrived in the 1850s, burning the prairie all but ceased and that, along with the introduction of many new exotic species of animals, crop plants and weeds, began the degradation of the landscape. Over time our site was used to graze sheep and then raise pheasants (from 1944-1999). It was slated for housing development but several citizens rose up and prevented that from happening. Now the Pacific Rim Institute, a private nonprofit organization is the steward of this precious jewel of central Whidbey and the Pacific Northwest. We have a five-acre remnant prairie with over 80 species of native plants - critical to the restoration of degraded lands throughout the Salish Sea region. We have over two miles of walking trails for you. They traverse our prairie, savannas and forests. The land is full of color when the native wildflowers bloom from early spring through early autumn. Our pup was a little too interested in the farm animals so we did keep her on leash, but she had a great time sniffing around on a long lead. We have a 17’ trailer which fit just fine but anything above that would be a bit tight. Would recommend driving around property vice backing down the drive. Very nice spot and super quiet. Ian is an inspiration, and staying on his property is more than just a fun adventure, it helped my family disconnect from our busy lives and reconnected with nature and each other. Although the barn is rustic and open, it still stood up to the rainy cold weather and allowed us to extend our camping season. We enjoyed the fire pit while we could, and we were happy to have the covered outdoor kitchen as well. The composting toilet was a unique experience somehow making even a bathroom trip a bit magical as it provides for privacy while also giving you a view of the beautiful forest. Seeing what he has been able to transform this space into, has already inspired us to start our own projects. Ian's passion is contagious! The kids truly enjoyed the play area with the zipline, swings and giant seesaw! We will be planning another trip here for sure and we are looking forward to checking out the other lodging options and or the camping sites. Maybe we will get lucky enough for a warm summer adventure and enjoy swimming in the pond. Ian was very welcoming and full of great info. Anyone would be lucky to get to experience some time here!

What a lovely experience! Beth was so communicative and answered our questions. The yurt had a super cozy bed! You can stay here even if it’s chilly - the evenings were cold BUT the accessible campfire and super warm and cozy bed kept us warm! It is absolutely feasible in chillier weather, just be prepared! Her husband helped us out with some firewood as we hadn’t had a chance to buy any and he also kindly shared some homegrown apples with us on our way out! Clean bathroom, peaceful environment, and 2 lovely dogs! Will absolutely stay again when we find ourselves in the area. Thanks! :)

My husband and I enjoyed staying at Greenstone Farms. The farm and the view are quite beautiful. We had fresh eggs for breakfast which was lovely. The horses visited us before headed home. The restroom was very clean and nice and had a heater which was nice since it was raining the night we showed up. We would have stayed longer but my husband wanted his recliner for the Mariners playoff game. I didn’t foresee that obstacle.

Two of us stayed here for one night. We live in Seattle and it was a perfect place to stay after spending the day in Bellingham. We arrived after sunset and our host quickly came outside to help guide us to our yurt, which was so appreciated. It was raining on and off throughout our stay, but we stayed dry and the bed was unexpectedly comfortable. The only suggestion I have is to add another large rug inside for warmth and coziness. We’ll be back again, hopefully for longer!

The Bamboo cabin is very private and has everything you need to just hang out. Saltgrass's location allows for many fun outdoor activities such as hiking at Kukutali Preserve State Park, crabbing, fishing, birding, bicycling and playing on the beach, my kids actually found a bottle with a message inside years ago. Alternatively, you could explore the many little shops in the towns of La Conner and Anacortes. There are multiple activities available, I would suggest calling ahead in order to book kayaking, rock climbing, whale watching, or a sailing charter. You could easily take a day trip to the San Juan Islands by taking a ferry ride out of Anacortes, walk on or book ahead if you are taking your car. Also, the Swinomish Casino and golf course are within two miles. While you're here you may meet our pup Turner, we also have two cats and several chickens. On the property are your hosts Jeri and Nancy, as well as our handyman Sean, Saltgrass boasts beautiful flowers, vegetable gardens, fruit trees, and yes, the Bay. We try to live harmoniously with the land. We would love to share our space with you! Due to potential freezing weather and vulnerable water pipes, we have changed our booking to making a reservation confirmation. The spacious Group Camp overlooks the beautiful Skagit River and is located on five riverfront acres adjacent to our family farm of 43 years. In addition to the Group Camp, there are just 3 single campsites on this property. Get ready to watch Canadian geese fly overhead, dip your toes in the warm sand and experience Peace Like a River. Take a walk along miles of dike, launch your kayak in the river, cast your line and fish the glacial river waters, or just soak up the tranquil beauty. The Group Camp features a huge central wood fire pit with cooking grill, and 7 adirondack chairs/2 side tables that overlook the river. The large custom outdoor kitchen (cold water) is perfect for meal prep and easy clean up. There is also a 3 burner propane stove (propane provided) . Two-8' picnic tables and a 3' X 4' serving/buffet table give plenty of seating for meals. Just minutes away you can walk to the river on a private trail. During the summer months there is typically a long sandbar. You will find stunning views in every direction with partial shade under towering cottonwoods. For safety purposes, a camp fire is allowed only in the provided fire pit. This site has space for 2 recreational vehicles (20' or less) or up to 3 tents. Current COVID restrictions apply for group size/composition. Our family has great respect for the beauty and power of the river. Care for safety must be taken on the river edges as they are steep in places, the glacial water is very cold, and it has a strong tidal current and hidden undertows. Life jackets are strongly recommended for any activities on the water and we discourage swimming. We are located just 65 miles north of Seattle and minutes from I-5. This is your landing spot to explore all of the Skagit Valley, from the San Juan Islands to the Cascade Mountains. You will find epic hiking, biking, foodie destinations and endless opportunities to explore the natural beauty of nearby mountains, lakes and saltwater.

Almost 20 years ago, Shelley and Casey moved back to the beautiful Skagit Valley farm Shelley grew up on. Her family has farmed in the valley for five generations. Casey had studied permaculture in the San Juan Islands and they immediately began planting edible and useful plants throughout the property. They started a small Community Supported Agriculture program growing vegetables and fruit for several families. The property has evolved over time to include several living willow structures and a wonderful collection of unusual fruits creating what they hope is the feeling of a Wonderland. Learn more about this land: New Van Camping Site in 2023: We have a new gravel pad van site next to an 18 acre farm field with a wonderful sunset view. We do not allow fires at the site. But you would be welcome to have a campfire in our firepit a short walk from your van site. Please note, we are not currently offering firewood. But it is available at the Shell station less than 5 minutes from our farm. Tent Site: Pitch your tent in a private corner of our little organic farm in the beautiful Skagit Valley. You will be surrounded by gorgeous edible landscaping and a stunning view of Mount Baker. Take a stroll through our gardens, graze on some fruit in season. A 10 minute walk or quick bike ride to the Skagit River offering great swimming in the warmer months. The small island in Puget Sound is only accessible by boat, which means it doesn’t get too crowded and feels worlds away from the hustle and bustle of the mainland. Hike through the park’s old growth forests and salt marshes, or just chill out on the 1.5 miles of sandy beach. Kayaking or canoeing through the calm water that surrounds the island is also a super popular way to spend the day.

It was just what I needed on my roadtrip! The only thing I would suggest for others is to put I the location exactly into Google maps or waze even. The coordinates tried taking to a different house, it's tricky if youre driving at night. Besides that it's a great deal!
