This is a 10 acre property on Guemes Island ( 5 minute ferry ride across the channel from downtown Anacortes), which is open pasture farm land and partly forested. Camping is available in the open horse pasture in direct sun or down in a natural occurring ancient gravel pit surrounded by trees. All the natural wonder that is Guemes Island is easily accessible from the property. Bike, hike, boat, paddle, fish, crab and have a great time!

The property is a work in progress. On Guemes Island, historically it used to be a strawberry farm, and then was just neglected for many years. Current projects include a beginning market garden, medicinal garden and a permaculture agroforestry project. Also rehabilitation of heritage fruit trees and a plum orchard is in progress. Camping is confined to the area designated. All that Guemes Island has to offer is at your disposal. Walking the beaches, boating, fishing, kayaking, hiking and biking, are many of the activities people enjoy, as well as taking in the peace, quiet and the immense beauty of the nature at hand. The camp area is an open field off a rural country road on Guemes Island. There is a farm house across the street and working barn and cattle ranch raising grass fed cattle. The scene is very pastural and mellow. Valley views. Full sun. You share the pasture with a horse named Poika. Poika is contained in a fenced portion of the north side of the pasture. The pasture is spacious and peaceful. There is plenty of space from any neighbors, but the pasture is open and not secluded. You can see the farm house across the road, as well as Poika's caretakers home. Walk 100 ft down to the natural gravel quarry ( another HipCamp site) to access the porta- potty. This is pack it in and pack it out, leave no trace camping. Car camping, as well as RV's are welcome.

The camping area is an ancient gravel quarry that has been reclaimed by the forest, located off a rural country road on Guemes Island. There is a working barn across the road and cattle ranch raising grass fed cattle. The scene is very pastural and mellow. The quarry is very private and cathedral like. Dabbled sun through the trees. Porta- potty bathroom. Note: The campsite up in the pasture uses the same port-potty, however it is placed at the road and not where campers in the quarry would be camping. This is pack it in and pack it out, leave no trace camping. A car or camper van can access this area but it's not appropriate for a RV. Show less

Peaceful, beautiful Guemes Island

It was a peaceful place to camp near Guemes Mountain. We enjoyed the hike to the top of the mountain and the astounding views of Samish Island, Lummi, , etc. from a completely new angle . We had the field to ourselves, and appreciated the picnic table. It was so nice to be able to make this trip at the last minute thanks to Hipcamp.

We came back for our second stay. The blackberries are just starting to ripen. We visited every public beach on the island. Nice place to camp and explore.

We had a little hiccup with directions and Deb was a complete gem in helping us. Guemes is a lovely place to be. Don't miss the beach there and savor every second of the sweet ferry ride.

We really enjoyed our stay! Deb was very responsive via the app and the site was as described. Poika the horse was a huge hit with our daughter. It’s not secluded, so don’t go with the intention of it being a quiet stay, but it was still a very nice stay.

It is too bad that we didn't camp there when the blackberries are ripe. But the blackberry brambles make a good privacy hedge. Small, freshly mown field with a picnic table, good for big rigs but need leveling. Next to a pasture with a mellow horse. Guemes Islanders are friendly, seems like everybody waves, traffic is light, so good for bicycle riding.

Quiet and secluded!

Guemes Island is cute and little, and the ferry ride there is short. Deb's quarry site is peaceful, shady, and secluded - just what we were looking for. And we saw a local fox! The port-a-potty is on the left side when you pull off the main road, then the camp site road bends to the right a bit to reveal your spot! It even has a picnic table which is great.

Directions were easy to follow. Communications with Deb were clear and friendly. There is so much wildlife on this island. Down the hill from the campsite was a wildlife reserve. It was easy to walk to. I would definitely stay here again.

Wonderful Campsite on Rural Island

This campsite is perfect. Plenty of space, and a great picnic table. As a single woman, I felt very safe. Port o potty was a nice convenience just down the road. I made a trip off the island to Orcas, a great place to stay if looking to explore the San Juan’s but stay somewhere closer to the mainland. Deb was so kind and helpful as well and responded to all my communication!

So many stars! On a island that’s so laid back, just a few minutes away from a great hiking trail. It was a beautiful spot and we loved it so much. Deb was great in getting back to use very quickly whenever we had questions and/or got lost lol. Thank you Deb, we really enjoyed it

On a hot day in August the Quarry site offered a shady respite from the sun and it definitely has a lot of privacy. We slumbered soundly amid quiet surroundings and a dark sky. The site is pretty much as described by others. We ordered eggs and they were set out for our arrival - delicious too. One negative is that on our visit the toilet was in need of a pump-out, and was unpleasant to use over a two-day stay. For the future, a picnic table would be a good addition and perhaps removal of the limbed branches and old logs that are piled up would give it a more welcoming appeal.

Private. Great host. Great Communication and directions. You could see the stars. We went for a concert at the Guemes General store and it was a perfect option for a place to stay afterwards & super close by. Deb brought us our fresh farm eggs in the morning!

It was fabulous! Would absolutely stay again, only 4/5 since the eggs we got were forgotten but no worries :) Its a wonderfully secluded little spot. Definitely want to come back!

Cute little pasture spot. We’re from WA and had never visited Guemes. It’s very peaceful and there are some quiet public beaches and a general store. :) Very pretty and the night sky was amazing. Recommend!

We had a great short stay at Deb’s pasture property on Guemes Island. The field worked out perfectly for our Sprinter van. The location is only a short distance from the ferry and hiking trails on Guemes Mountain. Deb was a helpful and super friendly host.

Peaceful. Just me and the chickens, roosters and the horse, who was happy on her own side of the fence. Easy to find, easy to get set up and perfect for what I was in the area for. Also the host communicated very well and made my stay easy.

Deb's place was a perfect homebase from which to explore Guemes: music and delicious food at the general store, beautiful hike up the mountain, several beach walks. The days were hot, so the cool forest shade was welcome.
