Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space. Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky. We want to share our property with those who want to stay for more than one night, so we do not accept inquiries of single night stays. We also don't offer longterm rentals as we focus on short term camping.

Mane Gait is conveniently located right off route 81 and can accommodate large rigs. You won't find better views of the blue ridge mountains on this gorgeous working horse farm. We have hiking trails through beautiful private scenery for beginners to advanced hikers. Pets are welcome if leashed! Picnic area on site as well as laundry machine. We are 10 minutes from downtown historic Lexington Virginia that provides great restaurants and lots of history in the charming town of Lexington. Site 2 should be booked for smaller campers around 25 feet. Site 1 is better for larger campers. Bathroom is located through the barn just past the white gazebo, first door on the right.

Learn more about this land: Lazy River Farm has so much to offer. Tents sites are in a wooded setting, on a beautiful hill, spread out for privacy. Not at the river. Camp sites also have fire rings with wood available for you to use. Campers are welcome to use any wood that's on the ground near or around your site. Camp sites can be accessed with a high clearance 4 wheel drive vehicle or walk up the hill to your site. With easy access down to the river, by walking or driving, you can cool off in the beautiful Cow Pasture River. Glamping in the Vardo Wagon is another option, with its close proximity to the river and cozy interior. The Gypsy Rose sleeps 2, but can sleep 2 additional guests with a tent. Paddle boards and kayaks are available for free if you paddling near the farm. (Life jackets are limited but are required, so if you have one bring it) drop in a line to fish, or simply sit by the river and listen to the soft rapids. Lazy River Farm is a working farm, with lovely Scottish Highland Cattle, pigs, chickens, horses and livestock guardian dogs.. Your welcome to come and pet the animals. Do not feed animals. Do not go into fields or stalls with any of them. Our location is 15 minutes from the Appalachian Trail and James River access. The Jefferson Washington National Forest is nearby and offers opportunities for visiting waterfalls, hiking, mountain biking, climbing, and paddling. Downtown Lynchburg is 20 minutes away with great restaurants, farmers markets and shopping. We are a growing homestead. Come camp on the peaceful banks of the Cowpasture river. This is a great place to come to get away from the noise and just relax. The river depth along the property ranges from a few inches to 6ft. Most sites offer partial shade. Open field area for playing games. Large communal fire pit beside the river. We also have a communal Shelter that has two booth style tables under it. Nearby places of interest including Falling Springs waterfall, Humpback Bridge, Lake Moomaw, Douthat State Park...all within less than an hours drive. Only a few minutes from the closest town, incase you need food, supplies, fuel, etc. Please note that not all cellular providers have service at this location. I know that Verizon does. Swedish Lilac is a great site with even better camp hosts! It’s well maintained, quiet, and has all the modern conveniences like full bathrooms with showers, power hookups, and wifi if you’re so inclined. Fritz and Valerie will take care of anything you may need, and are just wonderful people. Highly recommend for a weekend away!

This is a mostly quiet (occasional trains rumble nearby, but not loud in our trailer), secluded location. We had electric and water for our overnight stay. Site was long enough and level enough that we didn’t need to unhook our truck. Only 3 rigs the night we stayed. Bathrooms were clean, and hosts are friendly and helpful.

We had a lovely stay at Swedish Lilac Campground. It was so peaceful and quiet. We camped right next to the river - the kids loved playing in it and we loved the peaceful sound of the flowing water. The shower and bathrooms were nice and clean! And the owners were very friendly and gave us great recommendations of things to do! We hope to go back again!!

This spot is landing in my top 5 favorite campsites I've ever been. Granted, we had the place to ourselves but regardless, super cool spot. Surrounded by active railroads and mountains and nested along the James River - could one ask for more? I wailed on my banjo and we hoot and howled. Hoping to be back one day.

Weekend Trip to Thunder BRidge

I didn’t really know what to expect from Thunder BRidge but this place is awesome! We chose the primitive cabin. But you can’t go wrong with anything here (cabin or camping) Having the pavilion and bath house nearby to use was helpful so you can either fully ‘rough it’ or have some level of home comforts. There’s plenty of room to run around in open spaces also a cool old school obstacle course. Cannot recommend this place enough! Adam is super helpful throughout your stay if you need anything! Need camping or cabins in the Natural Bridge area, look no further than Thunder BRidge!

Sam’s communication and hospitality was forefront from the start. Gracious host, clear instructions, and a person who genuinely cares about guests. I do not properly read one instruction, but same answered our call on a Sunday morning, and asked about our stay, and was very kind. Highly recommend.

It was a quiet weekend. Our campsite along the creek was tranquil. It is located only a few minutes from many local sites and hikes. There were short trails along Chris's land that are well marked and groomed. Beautiful view of the mountain from our camp site.

Sweet property with lots of animals. There's a river and so many stars at night. We loved the Gypsy Rose. Just about anything you could think of was there to use instead of having to haul all your camping equipment out. I wish we had planned to stay longer.

We camped out via tent here for a few days with our pup. Chris has a beautiful property and it was extremely clean and peaceful . The site itself was a nice size and he even had a hammock there already ! There is a clean hot water shower and bathroom close to the sites too. The view was breathtaking and it was perfect for the sunrise/sunset lovers like my husband and I 😍

this location was great- we were there as a quick stop on a road trip during colder weather, we would love to come back in the summer and fully enjoy this location. everything was very clearly marked and accessible. as stated- the train does run by the river but we liked the sound of it. it only went by twice during the night and didn’t use the horn at that time.

Awesome camping spot! I spent three nights here, sites are directly on the river, wich amazing. Firewood I bought ahead of time was plentiful (although I forgot my hatchet and I’d recommend bringing one) Site was really easy to get too, and felt very safe and private. Perfect place to bring my dog too. It is a very quiet spot- not a sound besides the river, except for the trains.. I did not mind at all, but they are very loud! Would definitely come back here, a great spot and really good value. Thank you!

Weekend Trip to Thunder BRidge

Adam was incredibly communicative and helpful from the jump and accommodated our late arrival, giving detailed instructions how to get there. The sites were well maintained, spacious and in beautiful locations. This was one of my favorite camping spots I've been to and one I hope to come back to many times in the future. Thanks Adam!
