About 2 miles as a crow flies from Lost Maples State Park. You drive through a 13,000-acre ranch to get to us. We are at the end of a dead-end road with one way in and one way out.
NO FISHING
As our topo map shows we have a wide variety of terrain ranging from steep cliffs with huge views to shady canyons. The river cuts through the middle of the place and is surrounded by four hills that each have their unique characteristics ranging from flat oak-covered to rocky steep ridges. I guarantee you will find beauty all around.
We do have a couple of fun areas to try your 4-wheel drive out. Please dont make your own....stay on trails.
There are plenty of places to swim. When the Ladder is reserved, you may not swim there. Please be respectful.
We have 1.5 miles of both sides of the river so plenty of places to swim. It varies a lot in depth and width over the ranch.
Every camp spot has access to all the swimming holes except the ladder when it is booked. The main swimming holes are--

Our slice of land on the Medina River is truly gorgeous! There are beautiful cypress trees that are magical year round, and there are often small rapids. If relaxing in the shade by the river and dipping your feet in is your thing, our property is perfect for that! However, this is not a swimming hole. The Medina River is generally not considered safe in Bandera, TX, due to consistent low flow. Swim at your own risk.

We had site 1 and it was perfect. It was quiet and the way the site is situated we felt that we had privacy. Owners are on site and very nice. I think site 1 and site 2 are probably the best. It is a small hike to get down to the river, but you get your steps in and some exercise. We will be staying here again. Our dogs over playing in the river

The unpaved roads and neighborhood on the way to camp were a bit misleading. Boulderdash is super cute and extremely well maintained!! We stayed in the pull-thru RV slot. It was pretty level and had shade provided by trees on one side. Plenty of room for slide outs and our big truck. Very quiet aside from all the songbirds. Owners and camp Host were extremely friendly. Good WiFi. River level was low but still flowing to enjoy sitting in it.

This was my first solo camping experience and it was the best. Spacious, quiet, beautiful views, and the clearest night sky I've ever seen. Very clean and well kept site. I'll be coming back.

Beautiful land with room to hike and explore. Drove across a dry lake-unbelievable. Warren checked on us and even gave us some dried venison. Do not miss the opportunity to enjoy this Hill Country Paradise

Beautiful property with creeks, springs and gorgeous sunsets. Roads make areas of ranch accessible. Lots of hiking and photography opportunities. Warren was a great host and even gave us a gift of venison jerky. Unspoiled and historic, do not hesitate to book and have a relaxing, quite adventure.

We loved tent camping here! The stars were amazing and lots of wildlife to hear and see. We want to come back to check out all the other camping spots on Laf Ranch!! Drove a stock 4x4 Tacoma, which handled great.

We enjoyed camping at site #2, along the Medina River. The stars were bright and we could hear the river. The shower and restrooms were clean. Valerie, one of the hosts, was very welcoming and friendly.
My only issue was this one mocking bird who woke us up each day…we think they either thought our car was a bird feeder or that their reflection was a possible mate. They attacked the side of my car over and over, until we put a towel are that part of the car. Aside from the bird, a very peaceful stay.

LafRanch is truly a gem. It’s raw camping, breathtaking scenery and a night sky that is intoxicating. The stillness of being so far removed from a city provides a beautiful experience of what camping gets to be. Basically no light pollution, no sounds of city life, air that feels crisp, and campsites with spaciousness around them. The bald cypress that follow the creek, the oak groves peppering the landscape and the pervasive juniper trees all provide wonderful shade and nourishment to the wildlife in the area. From bucks to canyon wrens it’s truly special to get to experience a place as untouched as this in Texas. Fritz is a generous man who goes above and beyond for his guest to be able to experience this gem of Texas.

I stayed at the Rough Ridge. It had awesome views and was very secluded. The road getting to it from one directions is very easy. The other road is a little more challenging (fun) but would recommend 4x4. Fritz was a very gracious host and there was great communication from him after booking. I looked at all his sites and you can't go wrong with any of them. Thank you Fritz for sharing you place with everyone.

Grapevine Springs is the ultimate getaway, with emphasis on getaway. The views are breathtaking from top of mountains to the valleys below. Endless hiking opportunities and photo shoots around every corner. This is our second trip here and it was as exciting as ever. We did not camp, but the campsite is well thought out and everything you could imagine is provided. Wilson has added a cover over the campsite which is a wonderful addition the property. Wilson is the ultimate host and guide. You do not have to worry about being off the grid because Wilson is very attentive and keeps an eye out if you don't get out by dark. We broke down half way out and Wilson came out of the blue and helped get our vehicle running in no time. Do not hesitate to book this peaceful, serene piece of the beautiful hill country. Stress will be left as soon as you enter this sanctuary.

This Hipcamp spot is hands down one of the best we’ve stayed at. The property is massive (around 1100 acres), which makes it perfect for overlanders who want space, privacy, and the freedom to truly choose their own camp spot. There are plenty of trails to explore, and the terrain keeps things interesting without feeling crowded or restricted.
Warren, the host, was outstanding. He checked on us several times to make sure we had everything we needed and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. He was also incredibly kind with our kids and even let them play together, which made the experience feel more like visiting friends than just camping.
If you’re into overlanding, off-grid camping, or just want a wide-open Texas camping experience, this place is hard to beat. Easily one of the best spots in Texas and we’ll definitely be back.

My family and friends enjoyed tent camping on this gorgeous land with a friendly and knowledgeable host (Wilson). You simply cannot find a better place to be out in the hill country. Once you’re to your site, there is no noise except for what nature provides. A perfect getaway from the world. At night, the stars are amazing as there is very little light pollution which the nearby hills help to tamp down even further. Multiple areas and homes to explore and even a spring-fed swimming hole. I would spend a week here if I had the time.

Wilson is a super friendly and accommodating host. We had a great site that was peaceful and secluded, and had all of the basic amenities we needed for our 3 night stay. 5 star experience. Would highly recommend! A sturdy SUV or truck is definitely needed to get to/from the campsite.

This was my second time staying here and it did not disappoint. It even got better! There is a new bathroom ‘bivvy’ near the riverside campsites that made those late night/ early morning nature calls way easier to handle with no hill to climb.
The owners were fantastic once again and I really valued their site manager, Valerie. She provided excellent customer support and had our firewood already at our campsite so we didn’t need to haul it down.
This past weekend was very relaxing and peaceful. Will come back again. Highly recommend.

An extremely popular park all year round with a variety of camping style options from tent to RV to cabin it's has it all. The campgrounds were always packed with patrons but the sites are big enough to allow for some privacy. Good and clean facilities.

We love garner lots of hiking, tubing, swimming but this one check the parks website if you want to float the river because sometimes in the dry times the river isn't flowing.

Amazing campgrounds (loved site #224, lot of trees) - secluded from all the busyness from other sites. Make sure to get there early, long waits to check-in. And keep all food put up the raccoons are fierce. :)

Garner is one of the busiest parks in Texas - lines can be as long as 3 hours to get in. Check the park's Facebook page and plan accordingly.

Shady Oaks is the best camp site if you don't want to be surrounded by lots of people. Most of the sites are not extremely close to one another. You are only a 15 min walk from the river and from Old Baldy Trail. You have water and electric hook ups as well if needed. And if you get there early on a weekend, try to grab sites 120 or 122. Both of those are almost separate from everyone else so you get more privacy than normal.

Awesome hiking trails. I recommend taking the Bridges trail, to the Fushee trail, to the Old Baldy Summit trail. It is not an easy hike, but you get to see all the views of the park.

I recommend not picking the sites near the showers/restrooms. Sure it seems like a great convenience but it quickly becomes a annoyance listening to the toilets flushing throughout the night. (lesson learned) Other than that, it is a great campground with easy access to the river to the East and some great hiking trails to the West.
The Frio is also my favorite river to float in Texas! Always seems like it is the perfect temperature in the summer and more laid back and relaxing than say the Guadalupe or the Comal.
