• Swimming is not ideal from the property, but a well-maintained public beach is just 1 mile away on a neighboring lake.
• A paved bike trail is ½ mile away, offering access to the beach and nearby town.
• Fire ring provided. Firewood is available as an optional add-on.

Owner is friendly and runs a thrift store on site. 3 separate fields to choose from. “Shepherds Field” has an outdoor music stage with an upright piano and power to it as well as a grand piano available to play in the thrift shop. “Husky field” is more woodsy feeling and last but not least is “Field of Dreams” the most off grid we can offer here! No power, water, WiFi or noise! We are Canna friendly if you can be discreet. 360 deg views of nature and sky! Beautiful sunrises & sunsets. Bring your animals (Dogs, horses, you pick) and some hiking shoes and rock hound on site. 15 minutes to nearest Walmart. 7 minutes to nearest nice restaurant & bar. Wadena & Staples are a thrift shoppers dream! Wadena also features fantastic restaurants including a superb German brewery with the best wood fire pizzas in the state, with many other unique places to check out! Nearest lake is about a 15 minute drive. There are currently 2 well water spouts to hook up to. Working on 240, but can only offer 120 by extension cord at this time. Unless you have a 20’ plus cord and don’t mind parking close to the garage. WiFi available near the house. Or get away from all the static in field of dreams.
This ranch was established in 1907 and the outbuildings still need work, as well as public bathrooms which we can only offer by Porta potty for $100/day which is what we are charged. This is our first year offering camping to the public, so bear with us and help support a good cause so we can continue to add amenities here.
There’s endless miles of absolutely beautiful motorcycle & trail riding out here!
Funds help us continue to raise awareness to addiction & suicide and bring support to those who have been affected by either.

From the very beginning Russell was great to work with! He answered all of our questions in a timely manner. He was always polite and helpful with suggestions of places in the area. His communication was amazing! He let us know about the wildlife on the property. He told us there was a killdeer birds nest in the grass which was helpful so we’re able to avoid it with our dogs.. We stayed there for Memorial weekend and had a great time. It was peaceful and relaxing. We enjoyed kayaking off the dock they had. We enjoyed sitting around the camp fire. We all enjoyed being at Russel’s place. We would go again in a heart beat. Only thing to watch out for would be one of the neighbors dog, a German Shepard. He was really sweet and friendly, just startled us every time because he was so quiet. You would look over and he would be standing there like he was part of the group hanging out. There is plenty of room to play yard games. It was a great getaway. Thank you Russell for having us!!

Came out here with the family for a weekend and had an amazing time. The property has tons of open space for kids to run around and David was incredible — super welcoming and always finding new activities to keep the kids entertained. That hospitality made the whole trip.
The barn is a really cool hangout spot with a lot of character, and the fire pit was the highlight of the evenings. We ended up meeting other campers there and had a great night swapping stories — the kind of thing you just can't get at a normal campground.
Location is perfect too. Detroit Mountain is right next door for mountain biking (and apparently troll hunting, which was a hit with the kids), and downtown Detroit Lakes is just a short drive away when you need it.
Would definitely come back.

Tumbleweed is a special place, David and Logan have gone over every detail to make their Hipcamp an incredible experience. Camping on real grass, dense shade trees, bathroom, and hospitality in spades. Communication is impeccable. Directions are super easy. This Hipcamp is perfect in everyway. Oh, and the Barn. I chilled out there and chatted with Logan past my bedtime sharing adventure stories. The barn is cozy and has games, fridge and all conveniences like the recroom I grew up with in the 80’s. One day I am sure they will have vinyl records too. Stay here if you appreciate warmth, peace and real people who care about real people. Thanks for everything Tumbleweed!!
