Call us bias, but there’s nothing better than small town life. When the "blue roof cottage by the tracks" (yes, it used to have a unique blue roof) hit the market in early 2021, we knew it had to be ours! We purchased it & flipped it into a vacation home for guests of Folkston .. and The Conductor's Corner was born. This was our third trip out here. We usually book one of the larger sites, but this one was perfect for a weekend with my son.
Site #2 is simple, quiet, and private. Easy drive up access. Plenty of room for a tent and a solid fire setup. The river access is the highlight. Calm water. Clean shoreline. Great spot for morning coffee and winding down at night.
If you are bringing a larger group, book one of the bigger sites on the property. For two people, this one is dialed in.
Host communication was clear and consistent as always.

We showed up at Deep Bend Landing for just a nights stay while passing through. Passing through sounds interesting in this area because this campground is waaaaay back in the country, but my wife and I are photographers—having a hobby side with abandonment, etc. There’s plenty of this genre in the deep country of Georgia.
Even though I didn’t get the notifications, Ron worked hard to contact us so we would not be lost when we got there. Meeting with a smile and handshake, he showed us to our location and offered any answers to questions we had.
A little about the campground. This is a no frills location. While that does not appeal to some, it’s an absolutely dreamboat to people like my wife and I. The area was so peaceful and the campground was extremely quiet and peaceful—despite having multiple spots filled. The sites were spacious with lots of shade. This is the PERFECT campground for people who just want time in nature—camping. While we were just passing through this time, we’ve discussed returning on another date to possibly stay for a few days and comb the area for photography treasures.

Our small men’s Christian group camped at Blackwater during the freeze of 2026, and it was an amazing experience despite the cold. The large pavilion was a game changer, cutting most of the high winds and giving us a great place to gather.
The sunsets were incredible, and the full moon at night paired with the firepit, adult beverages, and campfire stories made it a trip we won’t forget. We’ve camped at hundreds of campgrounds, and Blackwater is easily one of the best in Florida. Clean bathrooms, a great host, and well-maintained grounds made it easy to unwind and unplug from everyday life. We’ll definitely be back each year.

Probably the best and most relaxing 8 nights we ever spent camping. We had 10 acres fenced in and there were 6 horses in the 20 acre field in front of us. We could let the pups out and they loved the horses and the horses were interested in them. We could only see one house in the distance and it was in the suburbs of Jacksonville Florida and close to everything. The site had complete hookups including water, sewer and 50 amp electric.
If you need to camp near Jacksonville this is the spot you want to use.

I highly recommend this campground. All sites are spread apart from one another and have amenities like chairs, fire rings, hammocks. I stayed at site #2 which didn't have power or a picnic table but I feel had one of the best locations/views. I would stay again!

I circled the weird part of Georgia that dips into Florida on a map and asked my local born friends "what goes on in the dingus?" After the laughter subsided we found Blackwater Ranch and decided to give it a try. What a lovely, family friendly place. Clean bathrooms, running water, electricity, and a very unique location! Camping here in January lets you benefit from the lack of bugs while still enjoying this very clean and well maintained campground. The host's instructions were clear and easy to follow and the list of nearby amenities and entertainment was very cool to look through. I was surprised to have 5 bars of 5G on Google Fi here which is handy unless you're hiding from work during a forecasted ice storm back home. If you're bringing a large group of people and are pressed for space you can leave the chairs home. The pavilion comes fully stocked with every kind of camp chair you can imagine. Tent sites are nice and large and I couldn't find a single rock the whole weekend. No worries about setting up a tent on rough or uneven ground. Hammock campers may want to look into sites other than site 1 with maybe only 3 viable trees to hang from. All in all it was a fun weekend at a very nice campground. We'll be coming back!

Amazing site. One of the best campsites I have stayed at. I spent the trip with my son and we had an incredible time. The site is spacious, flat, and well laid out, which makes it great for families and groups. The fire pit and seating area made evenings easy and relaxing, and the grill and picnic tables were well positioned and practical. There is plenty to do without leaving camp, but town is close for food and supplies. Walmart is right off the highway, and there are solid local spots nearby, including a fun vinyl record shop in town. We enjoyed it so much that we already booked the site again and are bringing our whole family back in a few weeks.

This was our 1st camp trip with our TaG teardrop camper. The Hosts directions brought me straight to the property with lock combination instructions. The camp area is right on the Florida and Georgia line and our site had a nice bluff overlooking the St Mary's which is currently a little low water level due to recent dry spell but the area surrounding the camp site is beautiful and also has plenty of amenities for taking up time for the younger crowd such as Frisbee golf holes, footballs and other sport equipment as well as clean bathrooms and an available big pavilion for rent. Love the beauty of this campsite with my only negative being the sound of cars passing nearby being in your ears until pretty late in the evening but not too annoying however. I'd also recommend the host to put little numbers on the campsites for easy identification. Remembering what your site looks like on the website helps you figure out which area is your site.

Crooked River State Park is a 500-acre preserve located just north of the Florida border on the Atlantic Coast. It’s an angler’s paradise—bring your boat to put in at the ramp or grab a rental onsite. A full-service bait shop makes it easy to pick up supplies, and a dockside cleaning station means you can cook what you catch. Aside from the water, Crooked River is known for its abundant wildlife, birding, and hiking trails through piney maritime forest. The park is also just down the road from the ferry to popular Cumberland Island, making it a good stop on your way to exploring the Golden Isles.
Tips for snagging a campsite
- Reservations for all campsites are open year-round and can be made over a year in advance.
- Dogs are allowed in cottages 1, 4, 10, and 11 for an additional fee, so be sure to book one of those if you plan to bring your pet.
- If you need an ADA accessible campsite, book sites 22, 23, or 46.
When to go
Thanks to its mild weather, Crooked River State Park is pleasant to visit year-round. If you’re going fishing, time your visit for spring or fall for the most bites. Summer visitors should expect heat, bugs, and breezes, while winter campers will experience the fewest crowds.
Know before you go
- Cottages are equipped with a screened porch, grill, picnic table, and cable TV.
- Campsites are mostly shaded and have a table, fire ring, and grill, plus access to shared comfort stations with hot showers.

Great little spot just north of Destin/ Panama City. Andrew was incredibly friendly and available at all times- even welcomed us at our late arrival.
Good amount of space with room for tents, hammock and vehicle. Near by locations for fishing and other water recreation- Andrew was kind to offer us kayaks to use during our stay. Clean restrooms just a short walk from the site.

Great park! Was there May 12-14th, not full. I can imagine this place is hopping Jun - Aug/Sept? The wind was RELENTLESS, may be due to the time of year I was there. Great views on the west side. Toured the Cove Marina and Deschutes CG. Some sites are short for RVs/Trailers. Know your length before you go! Saw several tow vehicles sitting sideways to fit on the site. Restrooms are updated and very clean!! No sewer here, dump station available.
