Weekend Trip to Delta Respite
I had a wonderful stay here. The silence, stars, multitude of birds (including Sandhill Cranes!), water, and joyful farm animals were restorative for my soul. The rustic and charming cabin was delightful with a window view of splendid sunsets, cool art and stylistic decor, an efficient heater, and a spacious bathtub. The hosts were gracious, responsive, welcoming, and thoughtful; they went above and beyond in making sure my stay went well.

We wanted to take our new van on its first overnight and Delta Shores is nearby! It was easy to find, we were welcomed and given the lay of the land. It’s a great spot with clean bathrooms. We were definitely rough out as our van hasn’t been converted to a camper yet but we had a blast! Took a great walk along the delta both in the evening and the next morning. Will return! Dog loved it!

Dino was an A1 host!!! Walking distance to the metropolis of Locke and Walnut Grove. Before leaving you must take a tour of the resort to appreciate the stay!!!

Dino’s place was great! The property was cool, spacious, and peaceful. There were miles of hiking trails right out the back of the property, and a little boat ramp about a 3-5 minute walk that we would have used for paddling if the weather was better. The town of Locke is a very short walk and was an amazing bit of little-known history, also had some cool shops. There are a couple restaurants a short walk or drive away. Dino was very hospitable and we loved our stay! We’ll be back for sure. Oh, and I should add our dogs enjoyed exploring the area too :)

This place is special. If you’re looking to get up close with herds of cattle, alpaca, horses, mules, farm dogs, geese and a massive pig this is the spot. Be prepared for lots of night noises- the animals talked all night long. We had great weather and the place to ourselves which was a treat but this farm would be great for groups. Our dog was off leash running with the farm dogs most of the time- and you could smell it on her. Alan’s dogs were very gentle, but they have free range. There was also a comically large pig wandering about. If Alan asks if you want to feed the herd, say yes! We witnessed a minutes-old calf getting up on her feet, while we slinging hay. It was a very cool experience. We would definitely come back for a visit.

We had an absolutely fantastic stay at this HipCamp! The tent site was perfect — clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully set up. Everything we needed was there, from a well-equipped kitchen and fridge to spotless indoor toilets (such a bonus when camping with kids!). We went on the river a couple of times and the kids loved playing in it.
Barry, our host, was attentive, friendly, and truly went above and beyond to make sure we had a great stay. Firewood was available for purchase, which made our evenings around the campfire even better.
I came with my two kids, and we all had such a great time — we’ll definitely be back! Highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for an easy, relaxing, and well-run camping experience.

We really enjoyed our first stay on the ranch! The spot is perfect for families with kids and dogs, trailers or tents. The extra amenities like row boats, firewood, plenty of seating, huge picnic/cooking area and flush toilets really set this place apart. Travis was a great host and made our stay stress-free and super relaxing.
(The weather was beautiful at the end of October) We can’t wait to go back!

My partner and I loved staying at Cole’s Ranch! Barry is extremely hospitable and organized. All of the amenities he provides were also super clean; we really appreciated the clean bathroom and kitchen area. Highly recommend the tour he provides as well! We ended up booking the hay ride and cow/calf experience and all of their cows were friendly and loved being pet. We’re definitely going to come back again next time!

What an incredible camping experience for our Girl Scout troop! The hosts help create memories with our girls, feeding animals, getting to know the farm cats and dogs, "racing" horses, jumping on the trampoline and swinging on the swings, with on tents set up on soft grass and the hosts incredibly responsive to our communications via the app (quick to respond and act).

My buddy and I wanted to get back into camping, and we heard about Hipcamp from a friend. We found Fisherman's Hideout on Cole Ranch just about 20 minutes from his house. Barry messaged us immediately after we booked and sent us a thorough welcome packet that had all of the information regarding our visit. He came right out to us when he saw us pull into our campsite. He was super friendly and we got a tour of the property from his wife. The campsite was clean and had a new firepit with benches. The bathrooms were clean and we had a great first Hipcamp experience. We will definitely be back again

About
A rare riparian oak woodland reaches the size of 258 acres near Ripon, California. This may not seem like a big deal, but it is. This type of dense forest once dominated California's natural landscape. Native Americans who once lived here gathered acorns among these ancient trees. By the early 1800s, Spanish explorers and fur trappers found this area teeming with abundant life.
These oak woodlands are rare due to human activities. Some trees need regular flooding to survive. Dams, forest removal, and less rainfall contribute to less water in the Stanislaus River.
Logging in the area certainly didn't help. This unique habitat needs to stay put because of the endangered species it protects. If you're lucky, you might see a riparian brush rabbit on your hike or in your campsite. These rare rabbits are found nowhere else on Earth.
The campground offers the perfect home base for outdoor activities. Miles of nature trails, swimming, and fishing all challenge you to be bored here.

Made a reservation to camp at Spot 49 at Caswell Memorial in February 2022. Arrived late at night and the campground felt deserted and spot creepy with tons of undergrowth and tree cover. Decided to crash at local Flying J. After a good nights sleep went back and, boy, glad I did. I thought it was a delightful campground with tons of wildlife (owls, all kinds of birds, squirrels, frogs chirping away) and beautiful cleared out campsites w campers around the loop. i was trying to be polite and just go right to my spot late at night. Would recommend but spots between 13 and 30 as they are where the cleared out of brush spots are. Bathroom clean, shower looked doable (takes quarters...did not use.) Short hop in to town about 10-15 minutes.

Me and the fam camped here this past weekend and had such a great time! Site #25 has a private walkway & perfect access to the river. This is where we caught 2 small bass fish! They're into lures and hang near the bushes fyi. But don't get too excited, doesn't seem like there's too many big catch here.
Heads up, the depth of the river was sporadic! A lot of the times it would be crazy shallow and other times it'd be deep. Bring floaties for sure!
BUG SPRAY / INCENSE IS A MUST. I was eaten alive even with the 3 diff sprays I used. Flies were everywhere too.
They are also SUPER STRICT about the 2 car limit. Even if you're just loading/unloading. Park overflowing cars at Flying J, a truck stop not too far away. That's what we did.

We stayed here in October 2015 and really enjoyed the park! It wasn't super crowded, and the sites were mostly spaced out well, but I would advise you looking around to pick a spot if the park ranger will allow it (or ask for recommendations). Site #25 is where we camped, and it had a nice amount of privacy and was set off the road just enough so we didn't feel like we were just camping on the side of the road.
They don't sell firewood at the camp itself, but there are several spots along the road on the way in to the campground that sell wood. The two most convenient ones are about 1/2 mile from the park entrance, and it's just a honor system thing where you put your money in a box and take what you need.

Just returned from Caswell, bring your beach umbrella and a fishing pole. Showers take quarters. most sites have good shade, we chose site 22 , which is adjacent to the short trail to the sandy beach area.

Went here in March 2014, an oasis in the Central Valley. Surprisingly the river was gushing with water, pretty rare these days. Water was a tad cold but not too bad and there was a nice, if small, beach to chill on.

Mosquitoes tend to come out and show their pesky little bodies, along with other small bugs, especially in the spring and summer. So come armed with bug spray if you aren’t tryna make any six-legged friends.
