42mi from Lake Easton State Park · 9 sites · Tents, RVs · Index, WA
Welcome to The Landing at Index - located on the South Fork Skykomish River, in the western foothills of the Cascade Mountains, off of Highway 2. With 16 acres of beautiful, private woods and breathtaking views of Mt. Index, this is a wonderful getaway to kick back and relax after your day of adventures, or just to escape the city rush. This is a gated property, protected with a code, which you will be sent 24 hours before your arrival. The campsites are at the bottom of a long logging road so an SUV or AWD vehicle are preferable , especially during the wetter seasons. When the property was logged approximately 100 years ago they scooped out gravel from the river to make their roads in the area thus creating the back eddy pool along the beach. A rather peaceful setting, including the rushing sound of the river and the occasional whistle of a train. You will feel refreshed and rejuvenated after you stay at The Landing. Pets are welcome, there are private outhouses at each campsite. These outhouses are protected with a code, which is sent to you 24 hours before your arrival. Campfires are allowed (when burn bans are not in place).

The best camping in Lake Easton State Park, WA guide

Overview

About

Whether you’re a first-time camper or a seasoned adventurer, there’s something for you at Lake Easton State Park. A straight-shot hour drive from Seattle, this reservoir is the perfect launching-off point for an adventure along the 250-mile Palouse to Cascades State Park Trail, a relaxing lake day to catch some rainbow, cutthroat, and eastern brook trout— or even to try jet-skiing. Families will also find plenty to do here, with short trails perfect for small legs near the campground loops, two playgrounds, and self-guided activities for junior rangers available from the park rangers.

Notable campgrounds

  1. Best for families: Hookup sites feature both long parking spots for campers and a nearby playground close to the beach.
  2. Best for hikers: The upper loop sites are close to the River Walk Trail and the Palouse to Cascades State Park Trail (formerly known as the John Wayne Pioneer Trail).
  3. Best for large groups: The lower loop sites include a group site that accommodates up to 50 people.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. Reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance for May 15 through October 15. Outside of the reservation season the sites are first come, first served.
  2. While spur-of-the-moment campers can generally find a site on weekdays, reservations are recommended for summer weekends, particularly holidays.
  3. Not all hookup sites have tent pads—check before you reserve.
  4. There is one ADA-accessible site in the lower loop and one in the hookup sites.
  5. Winter campers can use the day-use area from December 1 through March 31 with a  Sno-Park permit.

When to go

There are activities to enjoy in all seasons at Lake Easton State Park. It starts in late spring with fishing and boating before switching to swims and hikes in the summer. Fall is popular with mountain bikers—particularly along the Palouse to Cascades Trail—while winter brings groomed cross-country skiing trails and snowshoeing. This park is just within the rainshadow of the Cascade Mountains, so campers can expect sunnier skies on average than just a handful of miles to the west.

Know before you go

  • The campgrounds are close to Interstate 90, so highway noise (and the occasional train) can be heard from the sites.
  • All campground loops feature showers.
  • Additional hiking and camping opportunities exist at nearby Kachess Lake.
