The meadow we occupy was once the farmers property that I grew up next to at my parents farm house. When he wanted to sell his property he offered it to us for purchase at a fair price if we would not develop more than we needed to live here. We maintained the meadow adjacent to our property and have kept it as an agricultural site. We have had our son develop an edible forest garden and a unique diversified small orchard so we can eat and share healthy organic fruits and vegetables while helping our environment and wildlife and educating others to do the same. It is expensive to live in Newtown but we love our property. We want to teach others to grow food from their land while helping to support us keeping our adjacent property agricultural and undeveloped. This was a great campground! Tyler was a very accommodating host, even to the point of bringing firewood over to sell when I asked if he could. You choose your site based on what is currently unoccupied. Some of the sites are more up on a hill in an area eith more trees and them some sites are more grassy. There were very clean and well maintained portapotties with a foot pump sink across from them. There is an outdoor shower that is really just an enclosure with a shower head attached to a hose and the water was cold, but it honestly felt pretty good for how hot it was when I was camping! I had my dog with me and she had no issues either. I had a spiral stake with a long lead that kept her within our site area. I would be cautious as a lot if the trees in the grassy area where i was had poison ivy growing around their base. This was a really convenient site to get to Port Jefferson and other areas and there are A LOT of farmstands, wineries, amd other things to do nearby.

Great spot to park to explore West Haven. We had 3 nights with electric hook up and a water supply. The train station is 10 minute drive and we got the direct train into NYC within 2 hours. Amy and Bill were amiable hosts, communicative and cheerful. We enjoyed our two night stay, and their farm animals were so sweet and curious. Ample accommodation with room to stretch out by firelight, and create multi course meals easily with my camp kitchen crate and a cooler, both by grill and over the wood fire with the grate. It was a warm weekend and the sink with cold, potable water was so nice to have within a few steps from the site for refilling water containers and doing dishes. We’d happily return to this sweet, quiet spot. What a gem!

Very nice stay, perfect off grid relaxing overnight. The platform is solid and the bed is comfy. It's camping without having to lug in all your own gear. A short uphill hike with a few natural rock steps brings you past the privy then another 100 feet or so (still uphill) to the campsite. Well maintained with tiki torches and a fire pit. Small kitchen type space and a table round out the accommodations. No complaints.

Robin was incredibly friendly and welcoming and her place is beautiful. Robin’s Hood is a very nice site with a bit of a secluded feeling. There is a steel grill in the site that helps make cooking feasible with the raised firepit. A bit of creative engineering is needed. Plenty of kinder. The nearby road creates some noise pollution but if not overtly sensitive, its really not that bad

Weekend Trip to Mickelberry Forest Gardens

The Meadow's Edge was a peaceful space that felt just private enough even though it was close to the main house. The cutest chickens and ducks wandered the field, and there were also two goats and tortoises. The site is a short walk from where the car is parked and you'll have to carry in your items. But it's nice to see the animals on the way to/from the car. There is a firepit, chairs, wooden picnic table, and bbq grill on site. Potable well water available at an outdoor sink. Firewood available for $10. Big Y and Caraluzzi supermarkets are both 10 minutes away. Our group had an amazing time and saw beautiful stars at night. Amy and Bill were terrific hosts and easy to communicate with! Highly recommend staying camping here.

“I had an amazing time at this campaign spot! It was exceptionally clean, and the view of the river was just breathtaking. Despite there being a lot of people, it stayed really peaceful and quiet. The facilities were well designed especially the shower s although the water was really cold, so I’d recommend showering in the afternoon rather than early or late. I’d definitely come back and recommend it to anyone looking for a beautiful relaxing riverside escape.

Weekend Trip to Luxury Camping at 'Higher Ground'

We had a great time. This is our second visit to your site. The platform tent is very comfortable for adults and the added classic tent gave us enough room for kids. We really appreciate the firepit, dishes, washing supplies, goats/chickens, and toilet/shower! The location in walking distance to Fahnestock is perfect! Good choice for low key outdoor weekend. Hope to see you again.

Our camp host was absolutely amazing from start to finish. Bill was welcoming, helpful, and made the entire experience feel easy and comfortable. The space was perfect, well-kept, organized, and had everything we needed for a great stay. You can tell Bill genuinely cares about creating a great experience for their guests. We had such a peaceful, enjoyable time and would definitely recommend this spot to anyone looking for a great camping stay. We will be back!

Walk in the steps of Teddy Roosevelt, the 26th president of the United States, at his former home on the north shore of Long Island.

Start your tour at the house, which harbors artifacts from Roosevelt's life. The beautiful, three-story dwelling was built in 1885, and much of the inside is original and restored. The president spent many summers here while in office when he needed a break from the rigors of being the top elected official in the country. The first floor contains a living room decked out in hunting trophies, ornate desks, and display cabinets. Upstairs, there's a library that doubled as Roosevelt's office when he had presidential duties to attend to. Keep an eye out for a teddy bear in the house.

There is an admission fee for the house, and tickets sell out quickly for tours. If you want to be like the 26th president, stand on the back porch and give a speech to people in attendance. You might get some stares, but at least you're presidential.

Outside, the property is just as magnificent. Trails and paved paths take you through forests, meadows, salt marshes and beaches. You might find eagles, small mammals, frogs, turtles and insects along your walk. It's no wonder Roosevelt, an avid outdoorsman himself, fell in love with this place.

All of this adventuring and speech-giving makes you hungry. There's a picnic area to get off your feet for a little bit to enjoy some chow. There's no place to buy food in the park other than light snacks, so bring some goodies with you to eat a hearty lunch.
