The House where we live is the corner stone of the Bruce Property and is on the Colorado Register of Historic Houses.The residence was constructed between 1905 and 1912, using red bricks made on the site. This is a beautiful 40 acre ranch on Hastings Mesa with views of Alder Canyon and Hayden’s Peak. You can hear Alder Creek flowing through the canyon from the comfort of your campsite. Many nearby options for bicycling, hiking, kayaking and skiing… even backcountry, in the area. Once you pull out the driveway you are a few minutes from Last Dollar Ranch Road (hike, bike, or 4x4) where True Grit was filmed, and about a 25 minute (weather depending) drive to Telluride, 35 minutes to Ridgway, and 35 minutes to Norwood. Just outside of Ridgway is Orvis Hot Springs, and more hot springs and a vapor cave can be found in Ouray. The property offers access to Alder Creek and our beaver ponds down in the canyon. The fields are blanketed with Iris and clematis flowers in May and June and other wild flowers throughout the summer including pentstemon, larkspur, and wild roses. There are patches of scrub oak and fields with cinquefoil bushes in the camping areas, and as you go down in the canyon there are aspen groves, blue spruce, and ponderosa pines. The backside of the property is up against BLM land, which everyone is welcome to.

Wow, what an absolutely lovely place to stay! The Orchard is breathtaking and was perfectly equipped for our stay.
We arrived later than we would have liked but had absolutely no problem finding MTO in the dark thanks to Eric’s excellent directions and easy-to-spot Hipcamp signage on the road.
Eric was super hospitable. We wish we could have stayed longer. We will definitely stay here again when the opportunity arises.

This is a cute older camping site that would be great for a few days to stay at. It's starting to show it's age, but they still keep everything clean. Bathrooms feature clean toilets, sinks, and showers. The camp host and other employees are very nice and helpful, and that is always a plus. My only issue is that there are a handful of RVs that are being stored and it sort of takes away from the wilderness feeling by being a bit of an eyesore. Overall, I would recommend if you happen to be traveling through or want to spend a weekend in Gunnison.

Beautiful place to set up camp! The views of the mountains are beautiful and the orchard setting is serene. It calm and quiet since it is a single party booking. There are a few trees right near the campsite providing shade. The bathroom is clean. A recycle bin and trash can are provided. Eric was a great host making sure we had what we needed. Very nice for an RV park! I typically try to avoid these RV parks, but this one is really nice. Not super big. Lots of space between the campers. A special area for vans. The shower and bathroom house is super nice. Great location. Palisade is just gorgeous. Lots to do in the area. There is some train noise, but I did not notice that at night.

This canyon is unbelievable! The north rim has more hiking than the south rim if you're into that. Be sure to watch out for heat and bring plenty of water.

Gunnison was crazy cool! I can’t believe how deep it is! It almost gave this fearless warrior the heebie jeebies looking over the edge!! It was super windy that day, so we didn’t hike any trails.

Beautiful over look!
It was very pretty and loved the trails. Loved that you could go outside of vistor center and look off deck at Canyon or walk down to over look. The staff was very friendly as well.

Black Canyon of The Gunnison
We did the south rim. It was amazing. And we took the drive down to the river. Along the way we saw a shaggy cinnamon colored black bear cub with a blond streak on our way out.

It offers amazing views and is very accessible. Not only can you hike this canyon, but you can also drive along either side and check out viewpoints along the canyon.

This canyon is astounding. We drove down to the bottom and the walk in camping areas are amazing. We weren’t able to spend the night but there were several sites available in the middle of the week.
