The House where we live is the corner stone of the Bruce Property and is on the Colorado Register of Historic Houses.The residence was constructed between 1905 and 1912, using red bricks made on the site. James Hinds the homesteader and original owner of the ranch created the ware and hinds ditch which supplies our abundant Valley water. He was a prominent attorney and got our water rights given to us forever from President Harrison.

During times when the road is snow-covered and impassable, guests may access the cabin only by snowshoe, backcountry skis, or snowmobile. A public parking lot, which is plowed and maintained throughout the winter, is available for guest parking before using these alternative methods of access.
🛷 Trail Conditions: About a 2-mile stretch of Tennessee Creek Road is groomed during winter for skiing and snowmobiling up to Forest Road 103. Beyond that point, the road is ungroomed and may have deep powder or snow drifts, making travel more challenging.
🚰 Water: Running water is not available during the winter months, as water storage is winterized. Guests must either bring their own water or melt snow.

We have friendly animals (including our beloved donkeys, pigs, and sheep) that kids can visit, wide-open space to roam, hike, or hang out in your hammock, however we have bears, coyotes, and mountain lions in the area, so it's important to take safety precautions at camp.
Whether you're camping under the stars, enjoying a cozy setup, or just looking for a peaceful basecamp near Aspen, this is all about easy, joyful outdoor living. Dogs must be leashed at all times. If dogs are not leashed, we will ask you to leave immediately for the safety of your dogs, ours, and our livestock.

Stoneyard Distillery, producing Beet Sugar Spirits since 2013. Taking its name from the old stoneyard surrounding it. Upstream from the confluence of the Eagle and Colorado Rivers, this site was chosen for it's private water source. Rocky Mountain water pulled directly from the river.
The Distillery sits on a 4000 year old lava flow from the Dotsero Volcano. This lava rock provides the vapor refining distillation packing in the still hand built by the owners. With it's scratch built process, Stoneyard distills the true Spirit of Colorado into every last drop.

We absolutely loved our time in Cabin 1 at Sapinero Village. The view was stunning – waking up to the Colorado landscape was a highlight of our trip. The cabin itself was spotless and well-maintained, and we really appreciated the extra touch of having an external bathhouse that was cleaned daily and always kept in great condition. It made our stay feel comfortable and worry-free.
Perfect for a small group (we were 4) and great value for the experience. Would definitely come back!

This place was great if you want a beautiful place that's quite and secluded put it on your list. Did some fishing and caught a fish from every pond and the creek. Highly recommend for a private spot. The drive back to lake with the camper was tight but take your time everything worked out fine

Weekend Trip to High Camp, Leadville, Colorado
We had an amazing time staying at Chris's property. Awesome flat place to pitch the tent. There was a hammock. We were able to use this grill to make dinner. It was so quiet out there and you could see the stars so well. Would definitely recommend!

Joyce was very welcoming and communicative. The campsite was large, had many shade trees, and was just steps from the river. We stayed 2 nights and loved every minute of it. Bring your swimsuits for a cool dip in the river. We can't wait to come back!!!!

3 nights at Basalt Mountain Homestead
The tiny house was lovely! Very cute decor and a stunning view! I agree with previous recommendations of bringing fans and eye masks as it gets direct sun light all day. It cools off nicely at night but is quite warm during the day time. The drive up is definitely winding and some dirt road up closer to the homestead so keep this in mind depending on your vehicle and comfort driving in those conditions. It’s totally worth the drive up!

Got to meet and chat with the friendly owner Chris on our way out - he introduced us to Tater and even gave us a Tater-themed sticker 🥹 this site is the reason I love Hip Camps. 3 nights at Gondola Village at Holy Cross
A good high-alpine base camp. The construction is tight, the windows and screens are new, we didn’t have a single mosquito or fly during the stay despite keeping the windows open.
The small steel table works well as a camp kitchen, and there’s pots and a frying pan available. There was a tiny rivulet 30 yards from the cabin with just enough flow to refill bottles.
Off-roaders will love the jeep trails. We hiked, and carried water shoes for the crossings on French Creek but didn’t need them (it’s a drought year). There are nicer hiking trails up above the cabin and toward Fancy Lake/Pass. We found Gaia far more useful than Alltrails in this area since most of the old trails are unnamed/unmarked and without pre-recorded routes.
The bed is comfortable. We brought sleeping bags and pillowcases. At 1:00am, the first night, some animal was scratching at the siding and then on the beams underneath. Very loud. I used a long piece of wood (there’s still plenty of construction detritus around, handy for the purpose) to roust it out, then it left us alone for the rest of the trip.
Things to bring: water filtration, maybe sporks, charged headlamps and battery backup since the current solar/battery system in the cabin is not functioning. Ben intends to work on it…but near term I’d bring a backup, so your phones/nav don’t die like ours did before getting out of the wilderness.
All-in-all a great trip. Thanks, Ben, for managing this place and letting us stay. What a cool adventure!

This was our second visit to Belinda and Todd’s French Creek Ranch and we will return! They are extremely welcoming and go above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable and memorable. The site we stay at with our little teardrop has electricity , water, Adirondack chairs, a propane fire table and stings of lights that provide a great atmosphere. The views of the Collegiate Peaks and wide open fields on the ranch are breathtaking and the walk down to the Arkansas River provides a calming and peaceful place to rest and relax. The bath/ shower house is a welcome benefit after a day of hiking and sightseeing. This is a magical ranch experience for our family and we hope to return every summer. Thank you Belinda and Todd for this great “ Home Away From Home” experience.

George and Devin are amazing people and great hosts. As far as the facilities, the electric and water work perfectly. They have a dump station for the sewer. There is a place for grilling, and they have a newly built shower house, which is amazing. It's in a beautiful spot, which is secluded for privacy. It's close to several hiking, rafting, and sight-seeing areas. There are two small cities nearby with grocery stores and restaurants. Overall, this is a great place to camp for RVs, tents, and yurts. You'll love it. Highly recommend.
