The House where we live is the corner stone of the Bruce Property and is on the Colorado Register of Historic Houses. The residence was constructed between 1905 and 1912, using red bricks made on the site. John and Sophia Bruce, early pioneers in the North Fork Valley, were first involved in cattle raising. The family later became successful fruit growers. Located along the West Elk Loop, a Colorado Scenic and Historic Byway, the large two-story residence features a steeply pitched hipped roof with prominent attic dormers. As a guest of Riverwalk you will have full access to the river during your stay. In addition, there is the Riverwalk Trail System that skirts the North Fork of the Gunnison River from the top of the property, by the Riverwalk Yurt, (available on this site) meandering downstream past the Riverwalk TIPI (available on the site) passing  the Grove Yurt (available on this site) and terminating at the bottom of the property with the sandy Riverwalk Beach. There is a trial that zigs through the Cottonwood Grove and zags back along the gentle Monitor Ditch skirting a newly planted grove of young trees. For RV Campers we provide 2- 30amp,1-50 amp and 1- 110-amp electrical services and potable water. There is a dump station available. There is also access to our heated shower house with running water and bathroom amenities (<3 min. walk, may be shared with other guests).  The property is perfectly geared to groups of friends gathering in a central location between the onset of the Rockies and the termination high desert to the west. Friends or family will reserve both Yurts and the RV Site for a perfect reunion setting!

Grove Yurt

News: We have a brand new shower house close by for use of Grove and Tipi guests.  The Grove Yurt is a primitive living situation by current "Condo-ified" standards of our 21st century housing. It is furnished in the well appointed farm house style of the 1930s in the Midwest. Most of the furnishing are actually from that time. It is also round, which is seldom seen in our current construction palette. After a stay in the Grove Yurt, you will have become accustomed to its natural flow. After leaving, and returning to the world of forbidding corners, you will feel similar to those who have been at sea and return to walk and stagger upon the dry land. The Grove Yurt is nestled in a grove of Large and Narrow Leaf Cottonwoods with the river situated directly opposite. There is an unobstructed view of the surrounding mountains rising from our valleys organic farmland.(we have more organic farms Per capita of anywhere in the US). Inside the Grove Yurt, you can spin like Julie Andrews on her mountaintop and nothing can impede the 360-degree panorama framed by 8 - 4 x 4 foot windows, glazed Double French doors and an 8' x 8'screened opening. The city townhouses we see on late night movies, are generally 20' wide. The Yurt is 30' in diameter. When crossing the threshold, the Yurts fourteen-foot ceiling terminated by a four-foot tinted Plexiglas dome does have an impact after being at the river. We have a dining table, complete with hanging candelabra leading to certain Gothic overtones. The light, sound and smell waft right through the screened openings, giving the impression of being in the forest, but only slightly removed. The king-size bed is placed next to this opening so that guests' attention is often balanced between the activities beyond the dome and the soundtrack of noises from the forest inches away. Heat is maintained through a well-stocked wood-burning stove and all the necessary tools to maintain a roaring fire late into the night. There is a leather rocking chair in which guests very well might fade into ultimate relaxation. The chandelier of course, reveals the rafters in ever changing lights and shadows of the soaring roof rafters with the morning and evening river breezes. Directly outside, near the entrance, is an outdoor simple kitchen with limited cold water steel sink with prep area, ice refrigerator and gas stove. There is a composting toilet by Everlet in a horse trailer with all the niceties 20 paces from the yurt along a solar-lighted path. There is a four-person teak table directly on the river for outdoor dining. The Grove Yurt is the perfect place for rest, relaxation and a secluded getaway. It is removed on the south end of a 35 acre parcel. Our closest neighbor Delicious Orchards is known for its hard cider and organic fruit, a leisurely walk through the orchard for delicious food, often live music and a tastes of local produce in season. In addition, guests will have access to the rest of the property that stretches for a quarter of a mile along the river’s edge. Guests can expect to see amazing wildlife like elk, deer, eagles, red-tailed hawks, king fisher and blue herons and the sweet river otter family known to make an appearance for the most patient observer.

In Southwest Colorado 3 miles west of Paonia, is a Yurt nestled on a large wraparound redwood deck anchored by two mature Elms. The building is situatetlyd in close proximity to the North Fork of the Gunnison River. The Yurt is a sanctuary far removed from neighbors and below the sight-line and activity of Highway [xxxxxxxx] property meanders above and below the Yurt for a  quarter of a mile along the river’s edge. There are established wildlife corridors for Elk and Deer. Eagles, Red Tailed Hawks, and Blue Herons nest on the property or directly across the river. Robins routinely inhabit the trees directly above the sheltering Yurt. When entering the 700 square foot Yurt, a 14’ high skylight inset in a mad array of knotty Aspen, draws you to its center. Here the fireplace anchors the middle and the remaining amenities unwind to the outside of the circumference. Here there is full ADA kitchen and ADA bathroom, queen size bed, dining table, and sitting area. The surrounding river, mountains and cultivated farmland can be viewed ten different ways through 8 windows and 2 French doors. Think of a random compass point and there you will find a window framing your gaze. There is an openness seldom seen in standard structures. After rubbernecking for a while, your first coherent thought is, ‘I can relax here’. And the reality is, you can. 'In seed time learn, in harvest teach, in winter enjoy. George and Devin are amazing people and great hosts. As far as the facilities, the electric and water work perfectly. They have a dump station for the sewer. There is a place for grilling, and they have a newly built shower house, which is amazing. It's in a beautiful spot, which is secluded for privacy. It's close to several hiking, rafting, and sight-seeing areas. There are two small cities nearby with grocery stores and restaurants. Overall, this is a great place to camp for RVs, tents, and yurts. You'll love it. Highly recommend.

George has a wonderful chunk of land up near Paonia, there are deer and birds wandering about plus a farm nearby where you can hear peacocks, geese and chickens. The property is fairly large and has two yurts, two rv sites and one big house at the front of the road which he lives at so he’s close by if an issue should arise. The shaded campsite was incredibly peaceful, it backed up to an irrigation ditch so you had the running water, plus a table to sit at under the trees, a hammock chair, and plenty of space to relax. My husband and I would definitely want to come back when it’s not so smoky due to forest fires.

This place is amazing. We stayed at an RV spot, with water/electric hookups. George had everything ready for us before we arrived. Gave us a little tour of the grounds. Lots of chairs, tables, and artsy whimsical stuff all around the property. Pretty cool. It's well spread out, the bathhouse is perfect and clean. It's right by the river, which was relaxing. And it's right next door to an orchard, Big B's, which we went to a couple times. We're definitely going back with some friends, most likely next summer.

This is an idyllic place, and the spot I stayed was perfect. Right on the river, listening to the birds all day, and great places to take my (leashed and controlled) dogs to play in the water. The bathroom/shower was wonderful, and the hosts were extremely helpful. I am hoping to get back, and to stay longer next time!

Excellent location to enjoy a little bit of everything the area has to offer! The neighbors also have live events and a nice little market if you forget anything! The Grove Yurt was beautifully setup to accommodate any and all with minimal preparation! Will definitely have to try the Riverwalk Yurt next!

George's property is absolutely stunning and the site offers everything you need! The tipi is quite charming and includes a foam mattress (bring your pillow and sleeping bag), a table and chairs, a mini cooler, a lantern, drinking water, flowers from his garden, and towels for the very nice bathhouse. The heated bathhouse is a short walk away with hot water. You'll be nestled in the trees with a front row view of the river, plenty of space between you and your neighbors. A 5-minute walk to Big B's Cider and a 3 min drive into Paonia town. George was a lovely host and this place is a gem! We will certainly be back!

Beautiful natural environment. Loved the pathways. amazing atmosphere. My best moments: awaking to wild geese flying over, eyes lift to the ceiling and then outside through many windows. Sun rising, mountains, creek sounds. Make fire and Coffee!

We were camping with our trailer. Great site, with river access, fire pit, grill, a true restroom and shower (not an outhouse with a bucket), you feel secluded yet you are close to everything Paonia had to offer. Would camp here again the next time we visit the western slope.

My pup and I had the best time relaxing at the campsite and exploring the property! Great views along the river, very clean shower house and they have everything you need. Close to a main road so you will hear cars but it’s not bad. The hosts were so welcoming, I hope to stay here again!

A Slice of Peace Pie

George & Devon’s property is a favorite. I’ve now been two times and will return again. If you’re a light sleeper, I recommend ear plugs due to an occasional coal train that blows by in the night, but something about that too is nostalgic and cool. It’s peaceful, 4 deer wandered through my camp. I stayed solo and slept under the stars and felt safe and sound. They’re very responsive, the bath house is incredibly clean with hot water and 2 showers, indoor and outdoor. The tipi is beautiful and has the best chunk of the property, right on the river. Walking to Big B’s Orchard for live music and dinner is a highlight ❤️ Thank you George and Devon for having such a peaceful place for us to stay. We’ll be back!

The location of George’s land is spot on if you want to be close to town for a full Paonia experience and or music at Big B’s. He has options to choose from that include RV/pitch your own, a Tipi or yurt(s) right along the river! There is even a fantastic little shower house with flushing toilet and sink for the comforts of home while also camping.

Riverside Campsite – 100' of river
George was the ultimate gracious host. He even brought us fresh cut flowers. The Tipi was spacious and clean with our own BBQ grill and fire pit. Bathroom and shower was a bit of a walk but modern, extremely clean with shower and shampoo supplies.
