The camp was founded 40 years ago as a summer camp for kids. We continue to offer camps for children and their parents and grandparents (family camps), as well as welcome adults and other groups to enjoy the vast and wild high desert nature up on this ridge.
Register for our nature education activities and resources lead by The Wilderness Institute (available for all of our guests). These topics include sustainability, recycling, composting, water conservation, wildfire prevention, outdoor safety, and nature awareness along with the use of our hiking trails. You can also join an archery class, tomahawk throwing, climbing on the mobile climbing wall, Yoga, Qigong, Climbing Into The Heart of the Mother Tree, Star talks and more!
There are beautiful views and access to Shaggy Peak, the southernmost tip of the Rocky Mountains and the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range. Wander our land to enjoy various level hiking trails including a 20 minute hike to a creek and waterfall in the forest (some steep spots and creek is intermittent) or climb up Shaggy Peak (seasoned hikers only please).
IMPORTANT: We are up 1.3 miles of dirt road (with 5-7+% grade in a few short stretches) and are not near public transportation so you will need your own vehicle! Be aware that the roads can be snowy, icy or muddy and rutted ( 4-wheel or All-trak recommended in certain times of year). We don’t guarantee the road will be plowed.
We generally close for the season due to cold weather around Halloween and reopen just before Memorial Day.

My husband and I stumbled across this beautiful and serene property by accident in 2020 just as Covid hit. We feel blessed to be here and feel the need to share it’s calming, restful qualities. We have three adult children and have three grandchildren. We also have eight international children as we hosted international students for four years. You are welcome to come sit by the fire and be social or just do your own thing.

Sites located across the property for up to 8 groups. The RV camping is located near one of our horse corrals and above our irrigation Acequia, above or next to the house, or in the field down by the arena after haying is complete (usually after the first week of July as long as the rain cooperates). Can back in or pull through and has 110v power nearby. No water to hook up to, but we can fill your tanks via hose by the house or arena. Other sites available if you don’t need power, or have a generator.
Property is within a 100yds of national forest service that gives access to off-roading, hiking, biking, horse riding, fishing, and winter snowshoeing, cross country skiing, etc. We are located just off the High Road to Taos in Llano, 29 miles south of Taos and 55 miles north of Santa Fe. We are eight miles from Ski Sipapu and eight miles from Rio Santa Barbara Canyon.
Your well-behaved pets are welcome. We also have one great dane (Raggy), a great dane mix (The Morrigan), one ranch cat (Sasha) and four horses (Gentry, Shadow, Mattie & Jr G). The dogs are a rescue of some kind. The Morrigan is black, 3.5 yrs old and comes out of a rescue in AZ. She went in with her litter as a 5 month old puppy, and she came here about a year later. She is reticent and suspicious, so ignore her and she will come up to you on her own; continue to ignore her. Ragnar (Raggy) is our most recent rescue and is from Las Cruces. He's 3 yrs old and a merle. He suffers from anxiety and fears children. We are working him through his fears, and he is doing really well.
The weather here tends to run cooler, as we are located in the mountains in a small valley at approximately 7,800 ft above sea level. In the spring through fall, temps will average from mid 40°F up to mid 60°F at night and mid 60°F up to mid 90°F during the day. Temps can get into the 100°F's in the summer, but that is rare. Generally if the sun is out, it is warm or hot even tho the actual temps are not. It's a high-altitude affect. The opposite is true as well. Cloud cover will feel cooler. We also experience monsoon style rains that occur in the afternoon generally starting in July and running into August or later.
In the late fall through early spring during winter, the average temps usually run from 0°F up to mid 20°F at night with occasional dips into negative temps and in the day generally run from mid 20°F up to the mid 40°F range. Same as above - if the sun is out, it will feel warmer, etc.
We do hay the fields, so we may have tractor activity going on in the late spring and early summer. In the winter we will be clearing snow from the roads and feeding hay.

The property is in the agricultural village of El Guique just north of Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo, where indigenous settlements have existed for many centuries due to rich soil, proximity to the Rio Grande and Chama rivers. While we are in a rural area, you will be 10 min north of the town of Espanola and 5 min from the Ohkay Owingeh rest stop (with a great El Parasol Norte takeaway restaurant- don't miss their tacos!). It's easy to run to Espanola's Wal-Mart, Lowes or other stores if you forgot anything or need to purchase supplies.
In terms of the campsite, our 5 acre property is a narrow agricultural strip that extends from the irrigation acequia (ditch) at the top of the dirt road down into a dense bosque (forest), ending in a path to the Rio Grande. The campsite is in the bosque (forest) a little distance from our house in the privacy of the cottonwoods and elms. At this time we do not have other campsites sharing the space so you will be camping by yourself and have the bathroom to yourself.
It is a short walk from the camp to the Rio Grande where you'll find stairs to the river. The river is wade-able in the late summer but in winter/spring the currents are strong and not advisable for young children or non-swimmers. You and your family are welcome to walk back to our farm to interact with goats, chickens, and our friendly dogs, use the playground, or swing on the large swing by the pond.
This property is at its best Summer through mid Fall when all is green, the pond is full and river is calmer. Winter camping is still doable but may include snow, a frozen pond, and leafless trees, as well as visiting sandhill cranes.
The site is spacious, has a firepit with a cover. We can supply wood if you need it (just text us). In summer we have mosquitos being so close to river so come prepared with some serious sprays or creams- citronella candles and herbal stuff won't be effective here.
You will have a lot of privacy in the bosque, and it is relatively quiet from urban noise. But you will be in agricultural country, so you will hear sounds of roosters, horses, goats, peacocks as well as our neighbors doing their thing in the farm land all around you. There can be dogs barking so if any of this noise bothers you at night you will want to bring earplugs.

The Enchanted Circle Campground sits on the Avalon Ranch. It is 161 owned acres surrounded by a state trust lease. We are very proud to have been voted #1 Campground in NM 4 years in a row and ranked Top 5 by Forbes in the country.
We have 8 Sites to choose from. (No large RVs at 4, 7 or 8) Campfires are permitted, and pets are welcome. Free potable water is available as well as a portable toilet.
For cooking, you will have a fire pit, with a cast iron grill. Every site (but 7) has a standing charcoal grill, with tongs, a spatula and a grill brush. A fire extinguisher and a shovel. We hang a hand washing jug at every site for your convenience, with potable water, but do not suggest this for drinking water source.
The property was originally homesteaded in 1893. It was also the first potato farm in NM. It has seven ground-fed springs that run year-round and is officially the Coyote Creeks Headwaters. The springs converge after filling 4 of our ponds in the marshland where the potatoes were grown. A family of 4 lived in the first dwelling built here, not much larger than a shed. Since that time, 2 homes, 1 of which still stands, a barn, a smokehouse, and 4 other outbuildings were constructed. There are old wagons and farm equipment from the late 1800s and early 1900's still strewn about the ranch.
We are home to Huge herds of Elk, mule deer, turkeys, prairie dogs, eagles, black bears, 9 horses, chickens, pigs, goats, our 2 dogs and 4 cats, and the occasional Mountain Lion.
We live here year-round. We love our land and want to share it with others.
I am a Veteran and our intent is to eventually have a Veterans Retreat facility here. Not a retreat itself, but rather a location for all of the retreats, nationwide, to be able to utilize, so they can use the funds they have to do what they do best. You are helping to make that possible.
We do pride ourselves on minimally impacting our land. We strive to keep it clean and as close to nature as we can.
And as always, Veterans, LEOs, and Fire Fighters are always free for one night up to 4 guests. Just book your reservation, and show us your ID during your stay, and we will reimburse you for your last night with us.

Lush high desert river oasis nestled in a fertile valley in the Carson National Forest right between the fiery expanse of Taos and the rolling colorful formations of Abiquiu. Peaceful and private 3 acres right by the river at the edge of a little quaint town called La Madera (145 people, no shops)- just 6 miles to the healing mineral Hot Springs of Ojo Caliente, a place of emergence or rebirth as known to the local Natives.
Right by the river, held by a ridge (that makes for amazing sunset hikes), I have a 16ft Yurt Canvas set up with furnishings (desk, couch, wash stand) and a wooden Queen Bed with down bedding. This site can only be reached by foot across the river via stumps- a car can be parked near by.. approx. 50ft.
I also have a Vintage Camper that can be heated, has a kitchen, electricity and plenty of outdoor furniture with a fire pit and serene mountain views. As well as a monastic and very grounding Ensuite Bedroom, or a simple campsite if you want to bring your own camper or tent. All facilities have access to a guest bathroom inside the main house.
I offer dog sitting while you soak at Ojo, healing modalities that you'll find in the Extras section, and my dear neighbor Jackie takes appointments for massages with homemade essential oils.
+++ 6 miles to Ojo Caliente Hot Springs. There you will find the best restaurant in the area, with locally/organically farmed produce.
The land is naturally and beautifully wild- it is not a manicured campsite. The dirt rd down to the property is best suited for higher clearance vehicles, but is manageable for city cars.
With land by the river comes the mosquitos- June to August only. They are predominantly active during sunrise and sunset; long loose fitting clothes and a repellent work great.
Waterhole, Waterfall and climbing sites near by, as well as Plaza Blanca, Abiquiu, Ghost Ranch and the Taos Gorge are 30 mins drive away.

While here one can see history come to life by way of our living history ranch and historic home, one of the first homesteads in Des Montes owned by the same family for over 150 years. See firsthand how the unique Acequia system of New Mexico has given life to the surrounding pastoral fields and the agricultural practices of the past still relevant in today’s Taos Valley.
For those wanting the best of both worlds, access to in-town activities as well as trail/hiking/river adventures, the Des Montes sites would be the best selection. Close enough to town for groceries and conveniences along with other sought after tourist attractions such as the Taos Pueblo, Taos Plaza and surrounding galleries/shops. Great private campsite just a short drive from downtown Taos. Has a little setup for a tent, fire pit, and area for kitchen / cleaning with a port a potty as well.
Don was super responsive and even gave us some firewood to make a lovely fire at night. Would definitely stay again! I recommend getting to the site during the day as it’s a dirt road and would be a bit tricky to find at night- Don helped with directions as well.

A perfect place if you want a central location to explore the different areas of Carson National Forest (CNF) like we did. Allows you an hour drive in any direction to any portion of CNF while providing a beautiful base camp that yields isolation and tranquility in the midst of humbling views in all directions.
Alia is a Phenomenal host, very accommodating, super cool, responsive and down to earth.
If you are a self sufficient person that has everything you need and just wants to share someone’s plot of paradise, this is the place for you. Freaking awesome.

We just returned from a fantastic RV trip! The entire campsite was wonderfully serene, offering a genuinely peaceful escape. The setting was stunning, with beautiful scenery surrounding us everywhere we looked. It was also an extremely easy place to set up our RV, which made the whole process smooth and stress-free. If you're looking for a relaxing, beautiful, and hassle-free nature getaway, this spot is truly nice and highly recommended. Also loved hearing the history lesson about the land that's was really cool.

Definitely would stay again! Contact-less check-in, hot showers, laundry, and an infrared sauna. Appreciate the texts beforehand with the property info. Can tent camp, park your RV/van or stay in a POD. Property is still being developed and has some shaded spots. Camp spots can be a little close together on property.

We camped at San Antonio Campground near Jemez Springs, which appears to be close to native lands — a really cool area to explore. There’s no cell service, so make sure to plan ahead. The campground itself was really nice and peaceful. We had a fire the first night and picked up some supplies at a nearby convenience store just a short 2–3 minute drive away. It rained both nights of our stay, so we spent the second night in our van, which was a short walk from our campsite. There was plenty of space for hammocks, and the area felt very serene. The nearby bathrooms were a great bonus. The only minor downside is that the road above the campground is somewhat close, so you do hear occasional traffic, though it was pretty sparse. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely camp here again!

this place was incredible!! amazing views and access to amenities! we ended up staying an extra night because we enjoyed it so much. go check out lake fenton during your stay! only thing was the drive up can be very windy and steep, if you drive an old rig like us, coming down the mountain might be slightly terrifying

Used to be a decent, rustic campground, not kept up as well as nearby El Porvenir campground, which had a larger stream by it. However, both were largely burned last year in the Calf Creek-Hermit's Peak fire, & both remain closed.

We had a wonderful time camping here! The vault toilets were the cleanest ones I have ever seen and the campground hosts were friendly and helpful. It is a gorgeous campground with a creek running through it.

This is one lovely camp spot. I enjoy the tall shady pines pointing to the night sky chock full of stars. I experienced truly good camp hosts who enforced quiet rules and monitored the area with frequent cart tours. They cleaned the vault toilets every day. There are lovely trails throughout for easy to moderate hiking, a few rock mounds to clamber and explore. Be quiet and respectful, leash your dogs and discourage barking. Nature loving people are here. I will always return here.

We stayed 2 nights in July 2020 at Vista Linda during our stay at Santa Fe National Forest. The red rock canyon views were amazing! It's a pretty small area with not much privacy, and in our case not much shade either. Our site was near the restrooms and was visible to people coming and going. There are a few options further back that allow for more privacy, and shade, but we prefered to be close to the restroom. There is also a stream a stone's throw away that is good for hanging out in the water or just sitting on the edge and dipping in your feet. There was a campsite attendant, a friendly older woman, that came by daily to take our trash and give us a new bag. Beware there is no signal and the site was very dusty. Overall a good site.

We just returned from 5 beautiful nights at El Porvenir Campground. We arrived on a Wednesday around dusk at the end of September and there were plenty of available campsites for tents though we had a camping trailer and felt there were 3 spots that were available and doable for us. A Sprinter camping van was also joining us the following day. In total, 7 of us thoroughly enjoyed the warm days, cold nights with a campfire (and there's even a sanctioned area to collect firewood from, up the road accessible from camp), fall colors, quick creek showers (no soap, of course), and the hiking right from camp. The Beaver Creek trail was simply beautiful and the Hermit Peak trail long and a challenge. Pit toilets were clean & stocked well.

There is NO lake at Jack's Creek campground. The lake, Pecos Baldy Lake, is only reached by hiking 7+ miles up the trail (almost 3000' elevation gain).
It is a great campground, we love it, but those photos of a lake are deceptive.

Exceptionally clean and we'll maintained. Off the beaten path but not too far off. Stunning location and views! 30 total sites with 8 sites located in a generator free area so great for noise and exhaust avoidance. 3 sites that are a very short walk in over picturesque foot bridges. 3 sites that have historic lean to's (cabins) built in the 1930's. Pueblo ruins, gravesites and the Goblin Colony are all easily accessible by short hikes. Verizon wireless coverage. The Paliza campground also has a group site containing 2 separate loops. These are located 1/2 mile from the family campground keeping noise down. The larger of these group sites has a covered pavilion with 8 tables. Both loops have spectacular views of cliffs , sunsets and stars!

Camped the night of 8/16/19 and didn't get any sleep. The party across the road started blaring dance music at 11:00 pm and didn't turn it off until 2:30 am. The whole forest sounded like a club. The music was interspersed with shrill screaming. I would hate to generalize about the camping etiquette here on other nights, but maybe the word will get out that this CG is for people who want to party while they camp?

It’s nesteled up the hillside with loads of shade with sites really nicely spread out between trees so it feels quiet and secluded. Grab one of the outside spots at the top of the hill to get the scenery to yourself. And make sure to explore the trails nearyby, they wind all over the hills.

Went in March and it was a noteable 20 degrees or so colder at camp then down the mountain. Bring layers. Amazing staff and great campsite for groups. We were one of the few people braving the elements so we talked with the rangers to help us turn on and off the water so it wouldn't freeze in the pipes overnight. Huge fire pit cooking area. Amazing covered dinning area, with tables and benches. There were two latrines but only one we could use since the other had an ice mound in front of the door. Had the weather been warmer we would've spent more time at camp but we opted to do day trips to Bandelier National Monument and Kasha-Katuwe (Tent Rocks) National Monument. They were warmer and sunnier than our campground but such amazing cultural learning opportunities so close we couldn't pass them up.

This is a very nicely renovated forest service campground. The sites are all very level, electric sites are available and all sites have one of those posts with a hook so you can hang a lantern. There are so many things to do in the area it's hard to decide where to start. Santa Fe is just 8 miles away down the mountain. Hyde Memorial State Park is next door with hiking trails. There are lots of trails to choose from both above and below the campground along the highway. At the top is the Santa Fe Ski Area with more trails and chair lift rides. Try the lift when the fall leaves are at their peak!

This poor campground has an air of neglect. You're either going to love or hate this place. It's large and looks like it's being allowed to slowly decay. In the summer of 2016 I made two camping trips to the Jemez Mountains. I chose to stay somewhere else. There were less than 6 sites occupied each time I visited that summer. I got the impression no one visits to take care of the place very often. Of course, some of the people staying there looked like they really enjoyed having the place to themselves. I'd say if you're totally self-contained, you may really like it here.

If you're looking for a spot in the Santa Fe National Forest that's easy to get to, you'll like this. There aren't many frills here but it's nicely situated along the creek and you can get a little way from the road. Most sites require you carry your gear from the car. They have vault toilets but little else.

We camped here and loved it. We almost always camp on Sun-Mon-Tues and usually the campgrounds are pretty deserted! There were a lot of spaces to choose from. Our site had lots of trails behind it-perfect to take the dog for a walk! While we didn't hit the hot springs at the campground, we DID hike up to San Antonio hot springs which was a bit more remote and beautiful. New Mexico is known for raining in the Summer months, so be prepared and take a tarp or something for shelter. Most of the sites in the forest don't have any covered picnic areas. The sites here had plenty of space, along with picnic tables, vault toilets and water faucets near the restrooms. Check out Valle Caldera if you're in the area-stunning!

Terrific campsite, right on top of the Santa Fe National Forest. If you follow the road until you can't go any further, you've made it. The campsites are close to the restrooms, adjacent from the big parking lot by the Ski Resort. There are two streams near by and multiple trails to choose from. The campsites are quite big; allowing the option to pick and chose where to pitch your tent. Make sure to stop along the way up at the view points!

Great spot, offers picnic tables with a roof over them. Beautiful views of the red rock canyons, you're right there with them! Very private campsites, you're in your own little bubble of trees. It's in the Jemez mountains so you're close to the Gilman Tunnels, Fenton Lake, and a historical landmark where you can walk through some ruins. Very neat spot! We came here when we weren't able to get a camp site at Fenton Lake and from what the woman at the bath houses told me, there are always open spots here because not many people know about that campground.
