My 9 year old and I loved tent camping on Terry’s land. The landscape is beautiful with the mountains to the west and the James river right at camp. It was wonderful to splash in the river with my daughter. We had some rainstorms and the large shelter house was a great spot to hangout to wait out the rain. My daughter loved the rope swing. Terry has a great spot for families.

Awesome campsite with beautiful views. Great to have a private spot where we could cool off in the river on hot days. Also close to Douthat State Park and Roaring Run loop trail. The river was high the first day we arrived after a rainy week, but went down after 2 days and was perfect to splash in. Having firewood available was also a really nice bonus.

Such a great camping spot! Staying right next to the River was awesome. The views, nothing short of amazing. From the double person swing chair, the wooden swing another rope and the bathroom, everything for a wonderful experience!! Loved it! The river got pretty high and we weren’t able to sit our chairs in the water but we tried to fish, no luck!! Great spot, would definitely come back with my kayaks or tubes!

Camping on Terry’s property was a joy! It was a perfect, relaxing camp and was nestled at a beautiful and private location. As others have mentioned, we also found Terry to be a professional, kind, and generous host — bringing us firewood for our stay and going out of his way to help when our car broke down. We will definitely be visiting again!!

Absolutely beautiful spot with so many amenities! Port-o-potty, rope swings, river that is shallow enough and gentle enough for the kids to play in, huge fire pit and extra large picnic area.
Stunning views and the dogs had the best time running around!

Terry's Land had tons of space for multiple tents and a large fire pit with plenty of wood for you to burn. The site is super close to the river, which has easy access. I would recommend camping here and will be back soon.

Terry’s place was just what we needed! It’s beautiful, quiet, and set up perfect for whatever you need. Very peaceful! Our camper is 21’ and we had plenty of space, multiple options. The covered pavilion is an added bonus, and the campfire setup is perfect! We will definitely return!

I loved tent camping on Terry’s land. With views of the mountains and the location right on the banks of the James River, what more could you ask for? The Virginia bluebells and other wildflowers were in bloom. It was great having a shelter house for meals and the fire pit is very large. I woke up one morning to the sound of wild turkey! I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Terry was kind, responsive and brought over plenty of wood for the long weekend. What a beautiful place to stay.

This was our second stay at Terry’s place and it was just as great as the first time. The campsite is well maintained and offers beautiful views of the river and surrounding mountain- a peaceful and scenic spot. The picnic area with shelter is a huge plus, especially if the weather turns. There’s also plenty of extra firewood available if you run low. It’s a great spot for kids, with a swing and access to fishing that kept them entertained for hours. All around, a wonderful and relaxing place to camp. We’ll definitely be back!

Awesome spot! Very secluded and great access to the river. Fire wood on site for FREE! Terry stopped in the first day to make sure we had everything we needed and was very welcoming. We will definitely be picking this spot again.

Terry is by far the best host we’ve had on Hip Camp. We were in a bind, so scheduled a last minute visit. While driving down, we were able to meet him in person by chance and he happened to be the nicest guy around. The property/campsite is BEAUTIFUL, well maintained, and has precut wood and a fire ring. As if the site wasn’t amazing enough, Terry gave us lots of tips on what to do in the area for what we were looking for. We’ll be back for sure! Thanks Terry!

My boyfriend and our 2 dogs absolutely loved staying at Terry's place. Found a couple ways to access the river where we spent most of our time. The large firepit, free firewood and large canopy was a nice feature and benefit. We enjoyed the beautiful scenery and a nice short hike nearby to a waterfall. Having the freedom and isolation was exactly what we wanted.

I loved camping on Terry’s land. The views were beautiful, and there was a river really close. I got to chop some wood, which was fun! This was an amazing and ideal first time camping experience for my nephew. My nephew and I wanted to go fishing. When Terry heard it was our first time, he offered to teach us. Terry provided us fishing rods and taught us how to fish on his property. My nephew even caught a fish for the first time. Thank you, Terry, for helping us have fun and make lifelong unforgettable memories! Terry also checked on us to see if we were okay and if we needed anything. I really recommend this site! Terry’s place was phenomenal! We had the absolute best time playing in the river and watching the sunset every night. We cannot wait to come back!! The privacy made us feel like we were in our own little bubble—we can not recommend enough!

Terry's farm is truly a special place! We didn't get in until after dark our first night and Terry had a fire lit, waiting for us. You get the site all to yourself and it was perfect for our dog and small group, but would be great for a larger group, as well. We're excited to come back with our friends and family!

We loved our stay here. Very quiet and secluded. The river is just steps away and very scenic. Our dogs loved it too, being off leash. The road into the site is part of the fun. Like a little safari! We got our 20’ travel trailer in, no problem. The host, Terry stopped by to see if we needed anything. He was a great host. We stayed just one night, passing thru on our journey north. We plan to come back sometime soon, and stay several days and try some hikes in the national forest nearby .

Terry’s campsite is awesome and he is very helpful regarding tips about the surrounding area. The site is very secluded, shaded and sun, right on a beautiful stretch of the river. The covered pavilion is great. And the location is very central to access on the Jackson and Cowpasture Rivers. Conveniences are also just a short drive if necessary. Kroger and CVS 10 min. 5 star host and property.

I always enjoy my time at Terry’s. It’s a safe place to leave your camp while you are exploring.
Sadly, this trip didn’t pan out because of technical difficulties but Terry was ready and willing to helping. I’ll be back again, soon.

Fantastic site for groups or individuals looking for some quiet time alone in nature! Beautiful spot along the river with great views of the mountains. Host was kind and thoughtful and generous with providing enough firewood to last through my stay! Would highly recommend and plan on coming back again!

This is an excellent camping spot between corn fields and a big river. It has a nicely shaded camping area under big trees. It has swings and ropes for climbing trees. There is a huge fire pit and there are many picnic tables nearby it. There are many places where you can set up your tent. This is a place where you can go with several friends and have fun together. Although we went there as a single family with small kids we felt quite secure. At night the view of the stars is amazing.
