So much land, lovely host!
We had a girl’s weekend at Russell’s place, and asked if we could add a couple tents/campers. He was very accommodating and adjusted the price for us. Instructions were great, everyone was happy with the full hookups. We really loved all the open space and not having to be around other campers.
We usually try to book a site with a swimmable beach area, and although the lake is quite mushy and not for wading- he recommended a beach very close by (some of our group kayaked across the lake and portaged over the road, and some of us drove). We REALLY loved the paddle boat being available for use (and fire pit) and if you like fishing, they were jumping out of the lake so much it was like watching a synchronized fish dance.
The closest neighbor came over to say hello and invite us over for drinks. We declined, but he seemed very friendly (albeit a bit lonely as a widower) and continued to play music loud enough for us to hear based on what we told him we liked (he used to be a DJ). Other than a few cars driving past now and then, we didn’t see anyone else the entire time. We did hear coyotes quite a bit both nights, so that was pretty neat :)
Overall, I definitely recommend Russell’s land- just be sure to bring your own shade (tent/RV awning), don’t expect a sandy swimming area, and (as with all campsites) bring plenty of bug spray) and you’ll have a great time :)
