The Fisherman’s Cabin is a charming and cozy retreat nestled in the heart of Rocky Mountains. This small, one-room cabin offers an escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Enjoy the rustic comforts complete with an outhouse equipped with a sink, a solar shower bag for a refreshing wash, and a composting toilet, ensuring your stay is both sustainable and comfortable. For warmth, the cabin features a propane heater, and a single-burner stove provides a place to heat up some coffee or cook a simple meal while taking in the peaceful surroundings. Step outside to the cabin’s large, inviting deck, where you’ll find a fire-pit and large grill, perfect for a cozy evening under the stars. The soothing sound of the nearby river adds to the tranquility of the area, creating an ideal setting to unwind. The cabin sits on a beautiful 4-acre plot, surrounded by forest that gives great access into the National Forest surroundings. You can park right next to the cabin with a 4x4 or AWD vehicle, or park at the bottom of the driveway for a short 50-foot walk from the cabin, if you’re driving a regular car. The Fisherman’s Cabin, hosted by Huts and Hills, has a rich and fascinating history. Originally built by two professors from Berkeley College, the cabin was designed as an annual mountain retreat. Each year, they would journey from California to Colorado, seeking peace and relaxation in the serene forests of the Lost Acres National Park. At the turn of the century, the nearby Denver Wheel Club, with its headquarters right by the river on Insmont Drive, would host a major bike race every year. Back then, the area had no roads, and the only way to access these lands was by train from Denver, making it an even more remote and special destination. Today, the Fisherman’s Cabin is conveniently located just a short distance outside downtown Bailey, Colorado. It offers easy access to various mountain passes such as Guanella and Kenosha. The area is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, offering countless opportunities for hiking, fishing, hunting, biking, and wildlife watching. Whether you're an adventurer looking to ride world class mountain bike trails, climb mountains, or just trying to relax, this spot has something for everyone.* This cozy cabin is perfect for adventurers. * It sleeps 2 but we allow up to 6 on the property and tents anywhere around the cabin. * Off-grid cabin life with all the amenities you need and nothing you don't! Propane powered indoor heater and cooking burner, outdoor grill, and outdoor propane fire pit. * Kitchenette stocked with kettle / percolator, cups, plates, pots and pans, basic cooking utensils, and more. Grilling on the deck in this serene wilderness is a great way to spend an evening. * The bathroom has a tub and a sink which both drain. * Provided shower bag can be used in the shower or the two sinks. * We no longer provide water, you must bring your own. * Composting toilet with extra TP. * Small battery lamp with extra batteries and candles. * Private area, neighbors are far away but please be respectful! * An 8'x10' ft inside space provides all you need for 2 people and the deck has all the dance floor you need at about triple that size! * Outdoor seatings and dinner table setting. * Sounds of the Platte River. * Please see the map images to see where to park for your vehicle (2x4 / 4x4). * Unfortunately, no pets allowed only because the neighbor has a dog that walks around and will bark a lot. --- IMPORTANT INFO --- * No fires allowed * No running water, but there is a provided water bag for the sink / shower. * There is no electricity, indoor lights are battery operated and outdoor lights are solar powered.

Super cute, quaint, cozy cabin!!! Has everything you need. We loved the area. Spent time at Wellington Lake just minutes up the road! To no fault of the owner, just beware that there are lots of flies and a bit of mosquitoes. We are spoiled in Colorado so this was surprising.

A wonderful place

Group trip

A very beautiful place away from the hustle and bustle of the city. If you're someone who likes camping and eating in the countryside, be prepared; there aren't many food options around there. Everything else is excellent. A place to enjoy, break away from routine, and relax. I also recommend it for couples.

This cabin was perfect for us! The setup was great and super well thought out, from the side sink to wash dishes to the bathroom - everything was so clean and nice. The solar bags heated the water really well. We had a fun time playing the games inside the cabin. Super close to beautiful hiking. Great fishing throughout the town of Bailey as well! Definitely recommending this spot to friends!

Simon’s fishermen cabin is adorable! It is perfectly quaint and provides a nice propane fueled heater for the cold in the winter. It was beautiful and also private. It was clean inside the cabin although the dishes/pans were not entirely cleaned. The hammocks from the photos looked like they had been torn down and the outside of the cabin could’ve been tidied up more. My partner and I did have a wonderful stay and enjoyed the card games that were provided as well.

Peaceful little retreat!

Perfect little spot for a getaway! Quiet and peaceful with great mountain views and river noises. Cute cabin and outhouse. I was able to spend lots of time reading and enjoying nature in the provided hammocks. It was also very easy to cook and prep meals, and the cabin heater definitely came in handy during my mid-December stay. I could see all the neighbors but not hear any which was nice - the sweet neighbor pup Coco came to say hi at one point though! The only downsides for me were not having a lock inside the cabin, and some of the kitchenware was dirty. I have already recommended this cabin to friends and would definitely come back sometime for another getaway to recharge 😊

Cabin Love!!

My niece and I loved our stay at the fisherman's cabin. Got in just in time to settle in and get the lay of the land before dark. However we realized even after dark the cabin and front patio arr well lit. We opted the play some cards and do some paints, even left one of our pots with some foraged flowers for the next guest to enjoy.

Rustic, but well-appointed cabin & outhouse. Being set on a hill it required the supervision of our 2-year-old. Fine for slightly older kids. Pretty private with neighbors some distance away. Easy access to the little town of Bailey and North Fork Platte. The river access from the cabin was blocked during our stay but Simon was going to look into it.

Weekend Getaway!!

This is a great little cabin for quick weekend getaways. The small cabin is adorably decorated and has a comfortable bed, a lounge chair, and a small countertop with a single propane burner for morning coffee. Right out the door is a large deck with a great view, grill, propane fireplace and plenty of seating. There's a sink around the corner for washing dishes. About 50 feet behind the cabin is an outhouse with a sink and shower. Water for the sinks and shower come from 5-gallon solar shower bags that work great (my shower water was 104* after laying the bag in the sun for a few hours). You can see some other cabins/houses through the trees but overall, this place is very private. Bailey, CO is 10 minutes away and the 2 Dads Taproom has great pizzas, beer, and cocktails...oh and a magnificent view of the Platte River if you sit outside. We will be back when we need a break from life

Cute little gem!

We loved staying here! Super cute, comfy bed, adorable welcome gift, and has everything you need from a sink/water outside to wash dishes, perfect little outhouse with solar water bags for a quick shower, bowls, snacks, etc! There is cell service if you’re not able to fully disconnect. There’s a single burner hooked up to propane and a grill. Well thought out solar lights on the patio and leading to the outhouse with lanterns inside the cabin and restroom! We loved our mountain dog neighbor, Cocoa. She’s a pittie mix and the most well behaved dog we have ever seen! Note: she’s got serious beef with the squirrels! Very private, 10 min from Bailey and great pizza at 2 dad’s tavern right on the river. We are already looking forward to our next visit!

Wonderful getaway!!

We loved Fisherman’s Cabin!! Everything was perfect!! I will say we went very prepared just incase there wasn’t certain supplies. (Which there was so we just had extra.) Simon was a wonderful host, so responsive and helpful!! Bailey is such a cute town and make sure to check out Wellington Lake!! Would definitely stay there again!!

I loved it! It is close to 285 and Wellington Lake but feels far removed. It has everything you need for a glamping trip. Simon is very responsive and obviously thought through his guests needs. There was even a welcome bag filled with snacks. I will be back!

Cozy, well designed rustic getaway!

We absolutely loved staying in the fisherman’s cabin! Everything about the space was intuitively designed, convienent and comfortable. The bed was comfortable, and we stayed warm with out the heater- it was an early June evening. There were plenty of seating areas, one of them covered which was nice cause it rained a bit. There are several propane tanks to operate the grill, fireplace, and kitchen burner, and heater for the cabin which was super convienent. The coffee and mugs provided for the morning which was a nice touch, as well as a lantern inside and and solar lights outside. I really appreciated the well lit steps to the outhouse. It’s a steep climb and I felt totally safe climbing up there late at night. There were also battery operated lights available in the outhouse. The solor shower bags were a nice touch, so we could wash our hands and dishes. There was also soap and hand sanitizer available which made clean up easy. The cabin was a nice step above camping- still rustic with no electricity but without the hassle bringing a camping kitchen and all the gear along. Over all this was a great option for a last minute getaway for 2 really close to the city. I would highly recommend it! We will be back for sure!

Gone hikinh and biking

Probably one of the best set ups I've experienced from the well-appointed cabin to the outhouse. Really, who raves about an outhouse? This is a gteat basecamp to exploe the area. 4wd or Awd needed all year. The driveway is steep and rutted.

My wife and I had such an amazing experience at this cabin. It’s relatively close to Red Rocks, and the property is peaceful & far enough from Denver to where you can see incredible views of the stars at night. The host provided so much to make the stay more comfortable. Would definitely go back & recommend to anyone traveling in the area.

Comfy cute cabin, peaceful setting!

Was looking for a mini overnight solo escape out of my place near Denver and the Fisherman's Cabin was exactly what I was hoping for. Cute little cabin in the woods with all the amenities needed and peaceful surroundings. I appreciated the little extra touches Simon provided, like extra snacks and breakfast items if you are interested, and plenty of water for dish and bath needs. Really enjoyed my time at the cabin, it was the perfect place for a reset, and I definitely plan to go back after I master backing out of steeper driveway! Haha. :)
