The original owner, of this property, Varisto,  was a happy go lucky bootlegger back in the day, that welcomed many to try his brew and listen to a song or two on the accordion.  He's good neighbor, a famous cowboy artist, Jack Swanson, and he used to have fun fishing out of the river, and sharing a glass or two.  One day as Jack was herding his cattle through the area, past Princess Camp, located across the street, he spend a little too long here at Star Route, and to his surprise, the cattle had made their way into Princess Camp startling a few campers outside their airstreams. The Esselen Indians settled just up the road at the Cachagua Community Park back in the 1800's right by the Carmel River, which has an old stone house above the river, and many places to sit and reflect.Nourish yourself in nature in this luxury tent on a piece of property situated near the Los Padres Forest.  You can't help but completely relax with the vibe that envelops you as you step foot on the ground, and  takes you back to a slice of days gone by.   The main house is about 300 feet away from the tent, and you have a beautiful private bathroom close to the tent with an indoor toilet and shower.  To one side of the tent is a large picnic table for only you.  There is a gas BBQ grill, and an outdoor sink.  You'll need to bring your own food supplies, water, and sleeping bags, bedding/linens.  The property is completely fenced in, and just a 5 minute walk to the Carmel River, and a 1/4 mile hike to Los Padres Dam.  We are 25 minutes from the Carmel Valley Village.  There are two other rentals on the property, but each has it's own privacy the way they are situated. There are chickens, and yes, a rooster that make up part of the eclectic farm.  We also have one very friendly dog, Ruby, and one cat, Cleo. WiFi is available

Quail Nest at Star Route
Hidden piece of heaven
This was one of the most relaxing stays I've had. The place is refreshing, clean and comfortable. Lovely garden and beautiful starry nights. Jeff is a super host. More like an uncle, big brother or friend. He's knowledgeable about the region. Let him know if you need anything. Personally, I was so relaxed, I didn't feel like going anywhere. However, I did. We went to Carmel by the Sea and wine tasting in the village. I spent the rest of the days playing with Ruby. This is a space for quiet, relaxing retreat. If it is summer, go get a dip in the river like we did. I highly recommend Quail Nest for the true nature lovers.

Quail Nest at Star Route
We had a great time staying here! Jeff was very communicative and provided helpful directions and the land was incredibly beautiful. The road to get there is a little crazy, but it was well worth traversing for the experience. Thanks again!

Very remote after some winding curves. Place is very well kept with bonuses: refrigerator, washing station and toilet/shower.

Nice & comfortable
Jeff is very welcoming and nice, along with his adorable dog, Ruby (so sweet & loves fetching). I wanted a place to relax and feel safe when doing late night astrophotography and this place fit the bill. Quail Nest was comfy, the air mattress was firm which is how I like it, but could be adjusted as needed. A portable propane heater and built-in light was a nice touch. The bathroom was clean and convenient. Overall the site had everything I needed for basic "glamping", not too extravagant, but very pleasant. Had electric plugs and very good wi-fi. I use Verizon and cell coverage was decent as well. Enjoyed the grounds, there are hens & roosters & a duck + Cleo the cat (elusive, but cute). I love animals so this was fun. Rooster will crow in the morning so be prepared. Drive is beautiful, but curvy, best to be done in daylight unless you're a local. Best to stock up on groceries and other needs beforehand, no stores nearby. Overall, I would recommend and would return for short getaway from SF Bay Area.

Amazing Camp in Carmel Valley
Jeff was so hospitable, the land was gorgeous, and their sweet pup Ruby was a bonus! Prepare to be woken by the sound of a rooster in the morning, you really feel like you're in the country out here (in the best way!) So calm and serene.
