When to Go
Activities are seasonal at Fairy Stone State Park. The swimming beach opens from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, while the lake is stocked with trout in October, making winter one of the best times to fish. Hiking and horseback riding are possible year-round, weather depending. Camping season runs from early March through early December, while cabins are available year-round.
Know Before You Go
- Fairy Stone State Park is set about 90 minutes north of Winston-Salem by car.
- Day-use parking fees and camping reservation fees are charged at Fairy Stone. State fishing licenses and equestrian permits are also required, and a daily fee for swimming pool access applies (this is included for campers).
- Facilities include a conference center, swimming beach, restrooms, and picnic areas. Cell phone service is unreliable throughout the park.
- Paddleboats, kayaks, and other watercraft are available for rent in season. Swimming is allowed only in designated areas.
