Justesen Ranches is family owned working cattle, wheat and recreation ranch. Our properties are located in the Columbia River Plateau in North Central Oregon. Enjoy wide open spaces, reservoirs for wildlife watching and clear night skies for star gazing. This is a leave no trace, pack it in, pack it out camping area. The property is located in Tygh Valley and is only a few minutes from the general store and the stunning White River Falls State Park. The Deschutes River whitewater rafting hub of Maupin is just a 10 minute drive away. The lodge two hours from Portland and 30 min from The Dalles.

The Granary Lake Cabin

Our beautiful rustic log and rock house is hidden away from it all on our private section of the White River Canyon. Surrounded by the picturesque basalt rimrock of the canyon, this space is truly off the grid and is powered by a self-sustaining micro-hydroelectric system. You will have access to our privately owned section of the canyon, including trails along the river, picnicking spots, swimming holes, and a beautiful lodge where you can BBQ and enjoy a glass of wine on the deck while catching the last evening rays in the canyon. The lodge is located on our family owned ranch. Justesen Ranches is a working cattle and wheat ranch with an established recreation business. If you are interested in having an event, fishing on one of our private lakes or having a tour on horseback, check with us for rates. PLEASE NOTE: Fishing the White River is OFF LIMITS. Wilderness Unlimited has exclusive fly fishing rights on this section of river. Please contact them directly if you are interested in a membership. WU members also receive a discounted rate on lodging. The property is located in Tygh Valley and is only a few minutes from the general store and the stunning White River Falls State Park. The Deschutes River whitewater rafting hub of Maupin is just a 10 minute drive away. The lodge two hours from Portland and 30 min from The Dalles.

Secluded private lake campsite in the high desert grasslands of North Central Oregon with mountain views, huge skies and plenty of space to roam. Guests can walk around the lake, explore the rest of the property surrounding it, and bring your own paddle boards or canoes to use on the lake. Fishing on the lake is not allowed without a reservation. If you are interested in fly fishing on one of our private lakes check with us for rates. All fishing is strictly barbless hook catch and release fly fishing only, and we do not allow any fishing at all in the summer months as the warm water temperatures make it unsafe for the fish to be released. We are very strict with these practices in order to maintain a healthy fishery.

Love this spot!

Such a fun spot! Great for groups. Great spots for hammocks. The grass is very nicely maintained. The stars are so beautiful at night! The water was cold and mid thigh level but felt great over the hot weekend! Bring tubes to float down the river! Such a great spot, definitely will be back!

Property is gorgeous and there’s plenty of critters to watch. This time of year the bugs are going pretty good so be prepared especially for the wasps. Stars incredible out here. I do wish you could fish the river but plenty of other stuff to do

Huge-Private-Easy

We had a large group and everyone was able to find a flat, soft, grassy spot in the shade for their tents. We could all spread out for privacy too. The meadow and hill side were incredibly beautiful and we saw deer every night. There is a store and restaurant near by so that was convenient. What I liked best was that we weren’t being harassed by a camp host to stop talking after 10:00. We see each other, at most once a year, and we have a blast. The host seemed to totally understand what we needed and was very easy to work with. It was so simple. Camping with such a large group can be challenging but this place was absolutely perfect for our group and I can’t wait until next year! We’d love to go back.

The site and the countryside is beautiful. The access road is almost impassible with ruts even for a medium sized class b RV like ours. It’s also a long, difficult drive from rafting launch points despite it’s apparent proximity

Magnificent spot for our group!

Magnificent spot. Tucked away in the middle of nowhere with a beautiful lake. We spent our whole trip pretty much floating. We had enough space for our whole group! BRING BUG SPRAY.

Wonderful paddle boarding

We had great relaxing weekend at the lower twin lake. Weather was great and the water was refreshing. One day we enjoyed a nice, scenic drive to Maupin and had lunch at Mt Hood brewery. Atmosphere, food, and beer was real good. We didn't see any mosquito but there was (I think) small horse flies, that bit. It was what we needed, we'll be back next year.

Private lake oasis!

What a beautiful spot to camp. The lake was so nice, which we swam and fished in non stop. The bass fishing was a blast. Very private, you only hear the odd vehicle passing by on the road. Locked gate, and literally you own pond and area to enjoy. Amanda had the grass in the area cut nice and short, which deters and also helps you see if there are any critters in the area. Was such a great trip and I’m sure we will be back, thank you for sharing this beautiful piece of your property.

Magical Spot! Mosquito heaven.

Really magical property! I threw my 30th birthday party here and we rented both site 2 & 3 and it was perfect. We used site 2 (the apple tree site) for activities and spent most of our time here and we used site 1 as “tent village” we hosted a group of 30 and had PLENTY of space. The property is truly magical. So if you’re visiting, take care of it because we plan to come back. New porta potties were delivered on our first day so they were fresh for our group. Communication was easy, finding the spot was easy. A few things to note; 1. It’s very buggy. We were there in late June and boy howdy did we get eaten up. Bring thermacells and bug spray!! The host let us know ahead of time and we were grateful to have the heads up. 2. We had service! Which was a surprise but we did. 3. The river swimming spot was a short walk from site 2. 4. Bring shade ! Site 2 has some lovely trees but that’s also where the bugs are. We were lucky to have brought 3 shade tents and that was clutch.

Hidden gem in grass valley!

We had an amazing stay at the Granary Cabin! It surpassed all our expectations. It was equipped with an AC unit to keep us cool during the summer heat, the kitchen was well stocked, and the decor had a cozy and rustic charm that made the place extra special. Amanda, the host, was fantastic—easy to communicate with and quick to respond to our messages. Thanks, Amanda! For those who love fly-fishing, I highly recommend adding on their fly-fishing extra! It might seem a bit pricey, but it’s worth every penny. The lakes are full of aggressive 20”+ trout that put up a good fight!

What a lovely spot. A series of little ponds connected by a creek. Beautiful views, and plenty of flat grass and shade. Lots of elbow room.

My third (or maybe fourth?) time here. It’s a great spot in the middle of not much other than wide open views and beautiful rolling hills. It’s the perfect place to relax away from it all.

Lower Lake - Quiet and Relaxing

We had a relaxing visit to the Lower Lake campsite. While we tent camped just fine, if you have more than one tent, it's best for trailers or campers as there is limited flat space. My kids had fun swimming and kayaking in the lake. We visited White River Falls State Park which was beautiful - good to visit on the way (if coming from the West) or for a day trip. Short, but scenic hike to see the majority of the falls. Incredible stars on the first night! Good to know - Lake is a natural spring so it's mucky, and shared with some geese. This didn't bother us. It's moderately buggy- like any campsite next to a water source. Bring bug spray and wear long pants at dusk.

Ranch camp plus

This spot is special. Lots of space between sites (can’t see other campers) and a small private beach on a sweet swimming hole. Privacy and feels like you’re away from the world when you’re just off the road. Do not underestimate the ferociousness of the mosquitoes and bugs in summer!

Camping with Kiddos

Beautiful Property in a gorgeous part of Oregon. We came with 5 little kids so I had a lot of questions about the setup and Amanda was super kind and responsive in helping us make sure we had a great weekend! There were a lot of mosquitos, so come prepared for that and you'll have a wonderful trip!

Great little spot with access to the creek, cool view of Mt Hood in the distance, and beautiful stars! We loved being the only campers in the vicinity as did purr dog. Porta potty was clean and easily accessible. Directions were spot on.

Private spot that could use repairs

Nice spot, if only for the little lake. The lopsided dock desperately needs repairs. There is a loose board and that's a serious safety hazard and the double bench feels like it is about to fall apart. There is no ladder to get out of the water either and the banks are very mushy and impossible to walk in. Most of the spot is on a slope so you can only really pitch a tent right by the water where the bugs are the most intense. One of the two picnic tables was barely usable, the other was completely falling apart. The usable one was wobbly at best. We had an ok time anyway. We came to watch the Perseid meter shower and that didn't disappoint. There was apparently a scheduling mishap and we were asked if we would mind if a couple other guests fished in the lake during the day in the middle of our stay. We declined because we paid over $200 for two nights and were counting on privacy. The driveway going in is overgrown and has some serious potholes. Stay to the right on your way in and to the left on your way out.

We had a fun time camping at Lower Twin Lake. It is a nice clean spring fed pond that hosts a variety of wildlife. It is big enough to float a floaty or SUP. We had perfect partly cloudy weather. It’s quiet with the exception of the rare vehicle driving by.

We loved our stay at the lodge. The attention to detail in the home, especially the woodwork, logs and masonry, are amazing. The home was welcoming, beds comfortable and kitchen well equipped. We loved spending time on the long porch deck sitting in the Adirondack chairs, listening to the river. Amanda was a great, responsive host.
