The Historic Farm was purchased by Townsend Thorndike from the first colonizing family to claim ownership of this unceded land, the McCrillis family. It was Town's place to get away from the busy life. As time went on and his money dwindled and plans to sell off some of the land arose.
Townsend's son, Nick, foresaw a devastating development of conventional homes that would diminish the soul of this sacred land that held so much magic. So, Nick decided to move back to the homestead to create an example of what a healthy life for the land and its inhabitants looks like. HipCamp was the first step towards sharing and opening up the land to create an Intentional lifestyle. One in which we hope to share our way of being that brings awareness to the natural world we have fallen so far from. Nick and his tribe of like minds are creating a holistic, educational, retreat, workshop, and event center where people can come to learn how to co-exist in a harmonious relationship with nature and each other. Secluded in the wilderness, Boulder Brook Hipcamp has private tent sites right next to a babbling brook. The access road is a nice gravel .6 mile long road that is not maintained in the Winter. There is firewood for sale via Venmo right in the parking area, $6 per bundle. There is also a nice outhouse. There are 4 first come, first serve sites with tent platforms and fire pits. There is quick access to the Rockingham Recreational Trail, which is ideal for walking, mountain biking, and exploring. There is also a great swimming hole nearby called Chivers Pond. The campsites are located on the back corner of the Chivers Farm property and seasonal farm goods will be available for campers to purchase coming in 2025.

This is a 200 year old farm filled with life. There are well groomed areas and other more wild areas. We are on almost 13 acres of land that attracts all forms of natural wildlife. In addition, we have alpacas, pigs, sheep, goats, dogs, a cat and chickens. There is a beaver pond on the lower property.
Each site includes a place to sit and eat (ie. picnic table), fire pit and just breathtaking views. Campers can drive into and park at their site. Each site is separate and private from other sites.

We have a farm store offering a variety of items for sale including eggs, honey, rubs and much more. There is a microwave available to the campers in the farm store as well. Each site will be given a bundle of fire wood on the house, additional wood is for sale. You are welcome to participate in farm work. Coffee (from a local NH roaster), tea, hot chocolate and potable water (from the faucet) will be available daily. We are a farm family with young children so large and rowdy or drinking parties are very heavily discouraged.

Wandering Pines is a little slice of magic in the Great North Woods of New Hampshire. Our sites range in size and privacy and offer field or wooded land. The sites are near our Small House on 5 acres but far enough away to feel private. We currently have 2 large campsites, 5 primitive walk in sites, 3 Pick your own sites, 3 park and sleep sites and 2 RV camper sites. Our hip camp sites are set up to be self sufficient. If you arrive after dark you may have a harder time finding a site. We are not always home or awake when you arrive. If our sites are booked, please message me. We have a ton of space and can accommodate you somewhere!
During the warmer months(April-Early December) all the sites have access to water and a primitive outhouse and handwashing/dishwashing station. Firewood can be purchased. Please check our extras for other items for purchase.
We have wetlands and overgrown fields so there may be bugs and other animals at any given time. Bug spray is recommended.
Although black bears are generally shy and usually avoid humans, they are opportunistic and will search for human food supplies when natural foods are not available. Maintaining a sustainable bear population in New Hampshire depends on minimizing human-bear conflicts. It is illegal to intentionally feed bears in New Hampshire. Intentional feeding can create problems within residential areas and can result in fines. It also may threaten the life of the bear, if it becomes a nuisance animal as a result of this feeding. Please keep your food in your car when you are not at the site and when you are sleeping.
The property has views of Mount Martha and the Presidential Mountain Range. There are easy walking trails throughout the property. There is a field to play games; Soccer, wiffle ball, corn hole and yard croquet can be used. Just ask
We are within 25 mins of Lancaster, Jefferson, Littleton, and Bethlehem. Small town bars, restaurants, breweries and one of a kind views of mountains, lakes, rivers and wildlife. There is hiking galore and more than enough to do for all ages.

Located in Bethlehem at the top of the White Mountains close to endless hiking and biking. Both downtown Bethlehem and Littleton are within a 15 minute drive, supplying many choices for food and shopping.
Rainy and need more options? Take the beautiful 1 hour drive east on 302 to North Conway and visit the big outlet stores. If the weather is better, and you want a more scenic way there with hiking -- take the 25 minute drive down to Lincoln and travel the amazing Kancamangus Scenic Byway (Route 112). This is 35 miles through the White Mountains with no gas stations, so you might want to top off while in Lincoln.
Thirty minutes east is the Mount Washington Cog Railway, and you will pass the historic Mount Washington Hotel on the way. Fifteen minutes south and you can be at Franconia Notch State Park.

This was my first time using Hipcamp and I have to say it couldn’t have gone a better way than it did. Kevin was an amazing host. He made me feel comfortable and taken care of immediately. Offering recommendations of close my activities, helping us load and unload all of our belongings and making sure all our needs were met. A bonus was how beautiful the location was. Right on the water this site was very private where the tent goes with a view of the water. Spacious area with the fire pit and bathroom were amazing as well! I will be coming back!

We had an amazing stay at Eben’s place. He was a responsive and responsible host, and the views from our campsite were absolutely breathtaking. Watching the beautiful sunset colors light up the sky and then catching sunrise right from the campsite was unforgettable. During blueberry season, there are plenty of fresh blueberries to forage around the site as well. We would definitely love to come back!

We loved our stay here. Amanda and her family were incredibly welcoming, attentive, and friendly throughout our visit.
The animals were well cared for, healthy, and comfortable around people. Seeing alpacas up close in real life was a wonderful experience and one of the highlights of our trip.
The campsites and property are well maintained. While the property did not look exactly the same as it did in the pictures, it was still absolutely worth the visit.
Amanda and her husband seem to be a very hardworking family. Running and maintaining a farm is no easy task, and it is clear they put a great deal of effort into it. I hope they continue investing in their land and perhaps get additional help with property maintenance so that more people can enjoy this unique camping experience for many years to come.
Overall, we had a great time and would gladly recommend it to others.

My family and I stayed at campsite #6 (Hills Corner). The site was very roomy and could easily fit several vehicles/tents if needed. We only used 1 overland truck setup with a RTT and it was perfect.
The one thing I really liked was that once the sun was past its peak (around 1-2PM) this particular site had great shade since it is on the edge of the tree line. The sunrise was nice and bright and an amazing view over the tree's. We had some noisier than preferred neighbors near us but it was 4th of July weekend so we were understanding of that, I am sure the other campsites closer to the noisy group was much more annoyed but we were just far enough to hear but not be too bothered.
LeeAnn stopped by briefly to check in on us and she was super nice. Her whole operation there at Pitch Perfect was super easy and seamless. It made our 1st time camping such an amazing experience.
We plan to tweak our camping setup and return in the not too far future.

What a beautiful place, LeeAnn was so welcoming and even put out potable water for washing dishes and a hanging shower bag. Even though the temps were in the 90's campsites 9 & 10 were shaded in the morning so we didn't swelter in our tents and the brook running next to the sites was refreshing to dip our feet into in the hot afternoon. 10/10 would recommend.

My friends and I enjoyed this spot a lot. The river was perfect for swims to cool down and do a little fishing, and each spot is fairly secluded from the other two sites for privacy.

Where to go
Mount Washington
Sitting at 6,288 feet in eastern New Hampshire, Mount Washington is the tallest peak in New England, famous for its extreme weather. (The highest recorded wind speed outside of a tornado, 231 miles per hour, was measured at the Mount Washington Observatory atop the summit.) Mount Washington is on the Appalachian Trail and visitors can hike, drive, or take the Mount Washington Cog Railway up to the summit.
Franconia Notch State Park
In the heart of the White Mountains, Franconia Notch State Park is one of the most family-friendly state parks in New Hampshire and packed with natural wonders including Flume Gorge, Cloudland Falls, and Echo Lake. Lafayette Place Campground is a nice family campground right in the center of the park, near many trailheads and top sights, with a camp store and 97 campsites ideal for tent campers. Nearby Cannon Mountain RV Park offers seven RV sites with full hook-ups and a dump station.
White Mountain National Forest
The 800,000-acre White Mountain National Forest offers some of the best camping in the state. Renowned for its mountain scenery, abundant wildlife, and stunning fall foliage, the park is home to over a thousand miles of trails that weave through the rugged terrain for hikers, mountain bikers, snowshoers, ATVs, and snowmobiles. Overnight visitors will find 23 national forest campgrounds, backcountry huts, and cabin rentals.
When to go
Summer through early fall is the best time for camping, hiking, canoeing, and kayaking in New Hampshire. Snow tends to linger on peaks into early June, and mosquitoes can be the most troublesome in July. Fall, when the changing leaves are at their peak, is an especially popular time to visit. Be sure to make camping reservations during this time well in advance. Some New Hampshire state park campgrounds, including Lafayette Place in Franconia Notch, remain open year-round, although off-season services are limited.
Know before you go
- Camping reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance online or over the phone for New Hampshire state parks. Rates vary by the campground, with senior rates available. Monadnock State Park, Bear Brook State Park, Pawtuckaway State Park, and White Lake State Park feature some of the most popular New Hampshire campgrounds; advanced reservations are strongly recommended.
- Many New Hampshire state parks have pet restrictions. Some do not allow them at all and others prohibit them on beaches, swimming areas, and picnic areas.
- Numerous backcountry campsites and shelters exist in the White Mountains. Most are free to use as long as you adhere to White Mountain National Forest backcountry camping rules.
- Weather in New Hampshire can be challenging and unpredictable. Come prepared with rain gear and extra layers, even in summer.
