With the original home built in 1785, Milk Thistle farm is on the historic register and is comprised of the main house and 5 acres of land. It is run as a small non-profit animal sanctuary and is home to rescued chickens, goats, and pigs, as well as two humans and their dog and cat companions. The main property is fenced in and is closed off to visitors. We have two sites; the orchard to explore that can also double as hammock camping, as well as a small wooded nook. Both are next to the goat pen. There is parking for cars and bikes. Absolutely magical. The Yurt site at Getaway Ranch is one of those rare, special places that can heal your weary soul. The perfect balance of wilderness immersion and convenience. Will you hear some faint sounds of civilization in the distance? Yes. But, that's a fair trade-off for a FWD accessible site where you will fall asleep to the sound of barred owls and coyotes, then wake up to the beauty of the fog rolling off the river. I stayed for 1 night on a road trip from Nc to Maine then to the Cape. A needed a quiet place to sleep in my Outback for a night in-between seeing family and friends. I slept comfy and felt very safe. The place is set up really cute. I am a senior, solo traveler and would highly recommend for convenience, cleanliness, charm and safety.

The host prepared almost everything we needed for camping, such as firewood, trash bags, and tents, even though we brought our own stuffs. Overall a great place to camp for a rare oceanfront experience. The pros: Great views, beautiful beach with amazing sunsets, bike paths and swimming.
The cons: Lax security, not very clean and things can get a bit noisy with generators and such. None of the sites have electricity and there is shared water. There are only a few "private" sites available with most sites being very open.
But in all honesty, the beauty trumps it all. It is still well worth a visit. Plan ahead as waterfront sites are hard to book. BUT.... I have found if you check availabilty regularl, it's possible to snag a site laat minute after some inevitable cancellations.
