When to Go
The park is open daily from 8am to sunset. The beach is more popular over the summer, and on weekends. Visit in the spring for wildflowers along the cliffs above the beach. Fall is a good time to see migrating birds, especially hawks. From November to April, look for migrating gray whales in the ocean.
Know Before You Go
- There are two access points to the beach, with parking and portable toilets. The trails to the beach are steep and sometimes washed out.
- Beach fires, drones, and fireworks are all prohibited. Do not collect anything, including shells and driftwood. The waters are also marine protected areas.
- Do not turn your back on the ocean. The surf here is very dangerous due to sneaker waves, rip currents, and really cold water. Great whites have also been spotted in these waters. There are no lifeguards at the beach.
- There are poles for volleyball, but no nets; bring your own equipment to play.
- Fishing licenses are required for anglers 16 and older.
- Dogs are permitted but must stay on leash no longer than six feet.
