The night skies above Finnon Lake will reveal stars unseen in California. Enjoy searching for bullfrogs, and watch the flock of Canadian Geese fly in right at sunset as the horizon blends into the watercolor sky.
This private lake supports the Mosquito Fire Protection District's fire protection efforts and the firefighters of this community. Community volunteers manage the lake for the residents and the Fire Station.
The primary funding source for the Finnon Lake Restoration is the Sierra Nevada Conservancy, which was signed into law in 2004 with a mission to support “efforts that improve the environmental, economic and social well-being of the Sierra Nevada Region, its communities and the residents of California,” according to its Website. Finnon Lake is also home to a popular 27-hole disc golf course and Mosquito’s only restaurant, Smoke on the Water Diner, which is open on weekends only. 530-622-1060.

A great place to stay just outside of the park. Be near the park, but feel that complete privacy. These sites are very spaced out from each other and are large. No need to cram together! We have 824 acres on a beautiful cattle ranch with two small ponds. On our property, you'll find frogs, turtles, oak trees, pine trees and stunning views of Yosemite.
We have several campsites to choose from including RV camping, tent camping, and a glamping tent. Pets are welcome. Campfires are permitted as long as there is no fire ban. Potable water and toilet are available onsite.

They are currently restoring the beauty of the property's 1930s farmhouse and surrounding land by implementing principles of regenerative farming and permaculture. Current projects include rotational grazing and building hugelkultur garden beds to improve soil health and increase water retention. Their first farm product to reach the market is fresh microgreens.
While this farm is undeniably a delightful place to stay, it is also a work in progress. It isn't luxurious or fully polished just yet, but it is peaceful, welcoming, safe, and conveniently located.
A handful of chickens, ducks, pigs, and an Australian Shepherd named Luna also call the farm home. Future plans include continuing to revitalize the property by adding a beautiful sunflower field and a pond.

We are a small privately owned campground ( on the outskirts of Placerville. The property features 86.5 secluded Tahoe like acres with beautiful year-round Weber Creek. The camp sites are placed along the creek or the bluff overlooking the creek. We have traditional dirt camping, canvas tents on platforms, teepees and glamping tents for those that want the comforts of home. We are tent camping only with only one site that allows a small travel trailer or van. (#14) . We are dog friendly and allow dogs in all but 5 glamping sites. We do enforce camp rules especially our quiet time between 10 PM and 7 AM
We’ve been told that we have a “family camp” vibe. We are a great place for families wanting a safe environment for their kids but also several group sites for those that want to hang out together with multiple families. We are also a great base site for those wilderness enthusiasts with access to all the El Dorado National Forest including Desolation but want a hot shower at the end of the day.
We have a lodge that is stocked with games and a ping pong table. The lodge has a microwave, Keurig machine and a hot water kettle for those hot drinks (BYO Cups).We have several tables set up for those that want to eat inside as well as multiple picnic tables along the side of the lodge with overhead protection. We have electricity at the at the lodge for small appliances and charging phones. We have a compressor on site to blow up your air mattresses or float toys. We’ve been told that our bathrooms are the “cleanest” ever and have changing tables and diaper pails. We offer nice flushing toilets and hot showers! We have many extra amenities including a compressor to use for your air mattresses,
For outdoor activities we have basketball, volleyball, pickleball and cornhole not to mention the playground with swing set . We have hiking trails throughout the property. Our highlight is a camp fire bowl with bench seating with a stage to display camper talent which is perfect for the evening fire and roasting s’mores (bring the fixings).
The creek starts out in spring looking like a rushing river featuring many fishing and swimming holes. As the summer progresses the water level falls but is still great for water play and fishing.
We have propane BBQs (we provide the propane for BBQs) located throughout the property. We also have a propane grill and charcoal BBQ located in the common area for all to use. There is a dutch oven pit also in the fire bowl area.
We do not allow wood fires at the individual sites but each site has a propane firepit for ambiance (not cooking) that requires you to purchase a 20 lb. propane cannister on site (add in extras) or pay cash on site.
No internet service. There is limited internet only available for purchases at the setore.
We require a 3 night minimum for the major holidays - Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day. We do exclusive events so you may need to explore multiple weekends to find the right reservation.
We are located in the foothills so we are a short hop to many local attractions that include river rafting, gold mines, wineries and historical towns with great eating establishments. Tahoe is less than an hour away and there a many hiking trails within 20-30 minutes.
We have a limited number of items to rent i.e, tents, cots, camp stoves, etc. We rent a battery pack for those that use a cpap. We also have a small store on site for those items you forgot and a good selection of ice cream and ice. We take venmo or cash.

We feel certain you will not be disappointed with our beautiful river canyon. Our property is situated right on the middle fork Cosumnes river. The swimming is awesome and the stars at night will put you into a state of awe!
In the area there are many family owned wineries in the area, most of them offering free tasting! It’s a short drive to Tahoe and the Marshall gold discovery site as well as the historic hangtown Placerville. We are happy to make suggestions for local hiking areas, like the Devil's Slide "Gorge" only a 15 minute drive but like a trip to mini Yosemite. The Caldor Fire was VERY close to our property and a back burn was initiated nearby the our house (literally 200' away!). Our property became a pivotal point of fighting the fire in our community known as the “Ant Hill Army”. Ask us about the story!

With a total of only 6 campsites, it is a great location for a group to reserve the entire campground. All campsites have potable well water spigots and access to a cool water shower, sites 4, 5, and 6 have 20 amps of electricity. Guests enjoy the privacy while swimming, stream exploring, hiking, spelunking, forest immersion, fishing for wild trout, gold panning, or simply relaxing in a breathtaking environment – come fall in love with this special private ranch. After one stay, you will be a repeat guest.
PLEASE NOTE: A 4-Wheel Drive vehicle or high clearance All-Wheel Drive vehicle is MANDATORY to access campsites 1, 2, and 3 - while strictly 4-wd vehicles are MANDATORY to access sites 5 and 6 due to the road incline and rock and gravel road surface. PLEASE PREPARE ACCORDINGLY. Campsite 4 is accessible with a 2-wd vehicle, and has potable well water and 20 amps of power. Sites have beautiful open views of the property and river canyon with natural shade in the morning and late afternoon. Although shade structures have been constructed at Campsites 1, 3, and 4, the other sites are partially shaded by trees during portions of the day. Consider providing your own additional shade structure(s) as the direct sun can be an inconvenience at each site.
Pets are limited to one large dog OR two small to medium sized dogs per campsite. There is a strict policy that all pet owners pick up waste from their dogs and that dogs be quiet, well-mannered, and under immediate control at all times so as not to disturb other campers. Please be aware that some wildlife species including rattlesnakes, mountain lions, and occasional bear have been observed on the 117-acre property and could potentially be observed near the campsites.
The Ranch's northern portion of the property supports a leased farming operation. Farming operations typically do not interfere with camping activities.

You should plan to pack everything you would usually expect to bring with you to a typical Forest Service or State Park campground... For example: propane camp stove or equivalent with your own propane/fuel for cooking, extra tables for your personal camp set-up needs, shade tents or pop-ups, games or camp activities, camp cots/pads/air mattresses, camping bedding, tents, camp chairs, etc. We are happy to answer any question you may have!

Our campsites offer well-maintained pads with lovely views overlooking Love Creek and the lush canyon, all accompanied by the soothing sounds of the creek. As evening falls, our thoughtfully placed lighting creates a magical ambiance throughout the surroundings.
While we offer a unique off-grid experience, we're conveniently located just a 5-minute drive down a paved road to HWY-4 and a coffee shop at the corner for your morning brew. The fantastic Red Apple bakery, known for its delicious fresh-baked goods, is also just down the road. For groceries, Big Trees supermarket in Arnold is a quick 8-minute drive.
The charming town of Murphys also called the ‘Queen of the Sierra’ is only a 13-minute drive from our property. Nature lovers will be delighted to know that Big Trees State Park, home to magnificent Sequoia groves, is just a 10-minute drive away. If you're interested in swimming, several beautiful mountain lakes, including Utica Reservoir, Lake Alpine, and White Pines Lake (only 5 miles away), offer wonderful opportunities. Historic Brice Station 100 acres, was a horse stop on the Ebbetts Pass stage line. Horses were fed, watered and swapped here, over 100 years ago. Today, Brice station hosts a ceramics gallery and school, vineyard and tasting room, Blacksmith school, Concert series, Shakespeare performances and Master artist, Michel Olson's, Sierra Circles Sculpture Garden and campground. Born in Berlin, Germany, he has spent much of his life performing, guiding, studying, while travelling and becoming an accomplished artist in wood, stone and iron. Two of his gypsy rigs and several large art installations, are in the meadow next to the forested 6 site campground.

Our private camp is located riverside on the South Fork of the American River. Our sites are located next to the river under shady oak trees. You'll have a private place to relax and swim at the river. The river is swift but we have a few calm pools in front of our resort to wade and float in. We have modern restrooms with flush toilets and hot showers for your use. We can accommodate large groups in site 1 and we have smaller private camp sites 2 and 3 as well.
Our Yurt is located on a bluff overlooking the river. The yurt can accommodate 2 adults. Please bring your own bedding, towels and other items.
We have a kitchen area available to large groups and special events for an extra charge. We provide a picnic table and trash can for each private campsite. Wood fires or charcoal cooking are not allowed after July 1 due to fire danger. You may bring a small gas stove or propane grill to do simple cooking. There are several places to eat within a short walk from our campground. We do not allow cars to drive down to the campsites in order to keep the sites pristine. Cars are allowed to park in our main area in our private camp and carts are provided for the short walk to our camp sites.
We allow friendly and well behaved dogs to camp with us.

Give Terry (& Whisky 🐶) their flowers!!! 💐 This was an AMAZING experience - even with some summer heat. The site was as described and coming from campsites with zero amenities, having per-site water hookup was such a game changer! (I would not drink from it tho...its more for 'camp cleaning' 😂)
Terry was amazing, accommodating, friendly, and super helpful. We have a AWD/Tesla Model 3 and for site 1 it was a littttle tricky because of the clearance, but Terry was kind enough to fill in some spots along the path with gravel before we left 😭.
Other lil tidbits:
- The river was *chefs kiss* - very easily accessible
- bathrooms were a little far but very clean
- the newly built awning structure was amazing, but definitely bring another tarp/awning for sundown (which Terry mentioned beforehand so we came prepared!)
- definitely hose down the dirt area with water (as per Terry!) because when other cars drive past Site #1 to their sites downward, the dust is a bit much
- definitely need at least AWD and the more clearance your car has the better!
I wish we got to chat more with Terry and maybe do one of their excursions but we brought our dog so we isolated ourselves a bit.

Terry was so kind to share his property with all of us campers. This was our first time using HipCamp and Terry has set the benchmark very high!
He greeted us and then escorted us to our site. We booked site 4 with a 16 foot camper. Terry recommended we back it in. It could be a bit challenging but so worth it. The view was amazing. It’s everything you ever want in a campsite. There was a portable toilet a min away and it was cleaner than most public restrooms we have ever used.
The water access spot is accessed by going down a number of concrete steps and then we are greeted by this beautiful stream with lots of small fish. As you walk across, you can see them swimming around in the water. We planted our camping chairs in the water and relaxed for all of Saturday. We couldn’t have been happier.
On the way home, our kids were already asking when could we come back. And best of all, Terry has an awesome lab named “Whisky”, and our kids are now asking if we could have a Whisky at home too. Thank you so much for having us Terry and allowing us to create great family memories.

Loved the site. Trees gave us great shade and #12 is away from the other sites so really quiet unless they are doing a camp fire but that is for only a short amount of time. Kids loved the creek and the hike was great too. Very clean bathrooms and not too far from home. Had a great time.

The campground was scenic and well kept. Our site felt the most private with the exception of the OA trail that goes thought the side of it. Though no one came through while we were there. It was not too close to the creek.
We had never stayed in cots and my teen said the padded cots were very comfortable. I would recommend bringing more padding or renting it for the bunk beds. In early July the weather was supposed to be in the 90’s, however due to all of the tree covering it felt in the 70’s which was a bit of a bummer because it did not feel hot enough to jump in the beautiful water holes. Our family enjoyed the pickle ball, volley ball courts and ping pong. They had a variety of games, we borrowed Uno and Spot it.

Weekend Trip to Creekside Camping on Love Creek
This is such a beautiful place. So serene and tranquil. Felt very private even though other campers were there. Site 3 felt most private and I love how close to the creek it is. The bear locker location is far from camp and it requires a good walk. Keep that in mind with food and snacks and such. The bathroom was pristine and one the cleanest I used. Cooking outside was amazing. Just bring all your needed items and you’re good to go. Absolutely loved my stay. It got in the tent though and I forgot my portable fan, so make sure to bring one for summer months!

What a find! Sites 1,2 a staircase away from a beautiful river. Definitely bring your watet shoes! We walked up and down the river and every time found something new and interesting to see! Site 3 is a short hike down the road to the river, manageable, but may be challenging for some. Definitely have a 4wd (all terain tires suggested), so you can just drive and park at the river from any of the other sites. Campsites have a good bit of separation from the others, and at night it felt like we were all alone! Awesome amenities made the stay comfortable. The host is amazing, knowledgeable, present, but not overbearing. And if it gets too hot mid day, hop in the air conditioned car and go explore the area around the camp. There are some pretty cool points of interest near by. We stayed 3 nights and loved every minute. We will be back soon!

It is a wonderful campsite with plenty to do. You can fish, hunt for crawfish, gold pan, explore gold mine, etc... Terry is awesome with lots of activities&history info and extremely welcoming. We will return to campsite 1 or 2 in the future.
General info....
You must have a awd/4x4 to get down to the parking area by campsite 1&2 for easy access to the river, shower, toilet and wash bin. You can walk from your campsite but it will be tiring depending on your fitness level. From campsite 3 it would take 2-3 mins down (fairly easy unless you have bad knees) to the stairway and another 1-2 mins to the river. The stairway is well built and looks new. We did not pass by the other campsites but I assume they aren't far away.
Shower was cold but you get use to it. There is no door to the shower but it is enclosed enough to give privacy. Porta potty are cleaned every Wednesday. We have our own personal toilet so I can't tell you if the porta potties are good or bad. However, Terry takes really good care of the campsites so I assume they are clean for porta potties.
Yes, I recommend Strange Ranch.

If you're looking for a desolate location with easy access in the Eldorado National Forest, Devil's Lake is waiting for you. Up a dirt road you will find a trailhead for a simple 2 mile hike that twists and turns through the dense surrounding forest. As you summit, the greenery fades away behind you to reveal a charming Sierra lake. While it is unlikely to run into others on this trail, its relative lack of use allows the path to become overgrown and even unrecognizable in some spots. Beware!
