It offers diverse natural beauty including fresh springs and the Tetes des Morts
Creek, quiet woods on sloping bluffs, various songbirds and other wildlife. We tend a few sheep and a flock of 20 laying hens, a small orchard and large vegetable gardens. Our black Labrador retriever wanders around here freely.

The tent site is a flat 20'x20' spot next to a Birch tree, fire ring and table; plenty of room for two tents and a car or two. In the foreground is a natural field with small Cedar trees, Scrub Oak, Sumac and prairie grasses where deer often eat and bed. We are not a commercial campground. We focus on Zen, mindfulness, peace, and tranquility. Firmly in the realm of Outsider Art, Gothic and rustic, Bob Kellogg has created a place unlike anywhere else in the world that represents freedom and inspires endless creativity. The land provides multiple camp sites for easy access to bike and walking trails taking visitors into town or through the Wapsipinicon State Park across the river from the property. Anamosa offers several restaurants, grocery stores and other businesses all within a 1-mile walking distance from your campsite.

Once in a while if you are really patient and quite you can see wild animals like deer, turkey, coyotes, and maybe a fox or two. One of the few signs of people will be an occasional car passing on the gravel road. There are many local attractions such as out door theater, winery, and local festivities in near by Richland center. One of the highest recommended activities is kayaking on the pine river. Welcome to Driftless Retreat, a charming Amish-built, Scandinavian-influenced cabin nestled on three acres in the heart of Wisconsin’s Driftless Region. Tucked away high on a Mississippi River bluff, the property offers privacy and seclusion in a rural setting while remaining within easy reach of river towns, villages, and some of the best destinations in the Driftless area.

PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING: Driftless Retreat is a rustic, self-clean cabin with NO TOILET and NO RUNNING WATER. There is currently no usable toilet or outhouse on the property. Guests must bring their own portable camping toilet and supplies or make other arrangements, and all related waste must be removed from the property. Guests should also bring sufficient water for drinking, cooking, washing dishes, and tidying the cabin.

Although the cabin is rustic and simple, it includes several modern amenities and thoughtful extras. It is an especially welcoming spot for bibliophiles and music lovers, with a record player (bring your own vinyl) and more than 200 books and 100 magazines covering nature, music, health and wellness, mindfulness, sustainable living, and other topics. You’ll also find games, puzzles, and coloring books.
A reliable 52 Mbps fiber-optic internet connection makes the cabin suitable for remote work or for anyone who wants a secluded retreat while remaining connected.
Sleeping options include a pullout sofa that converts to a full-size bed, with a futon mattress that can be placed on top for additional comfort. Blankets and pillows are provided, but guests must bring their own sheets.
Although there is no running water, the cabin has an electric water dispenser that provides hot and cold water. Guests must bring water to fill the five-gallon container. Other amenities include a small refrigerator with a freezer compartment, microwave, two electric heaters, electric kettle, Chemex coffee maker, dishes, and basic cookware.

Our 360-acre family farm—held by our family for nearly 80 years—has been transformed from a tree grove and a former highway borrow pit into a welcoming campground.
We’ve built two structures on the property, including a shop with a restroom and a cozy porch where my wife and I enjoy evenings watching deer and other wildlife. What began as a spot for family camping has grown into a campground we’re now opening to guests.

We bought the farmette with much work outside and home interior remodel to complete. We slowly turned the property into our family oasis. We neighbor a pasture with cows. There are free range chickens running around during the day. Geese greet us every evening and morning at the pond...as do the many bullfrogs. Occasionally you'll hear the coyotes, but they keep their distance. The stars shine peacefully and the sunsets are picturesque (most afternoons). The pond is a great place to swim and fish. The hillside is a nice walk for exercise or take the easier route and sit under the great oak tree in the other pasture. Campsites are off the road, behind our main home. You won't find a sign...we keep it simple.
We allow pets at the sites for a $5 per pet/per night. If you would like to bring a pet, please add the Pet Fee which is listed on the Extra during the booking process.
We have firewood available for sale, $5.55/bundle. This is located in the Extra section during the booking process.

Forty acres of woods, meadows, and fields, in the Heart of the Driftless Area, offers space to unplug, slow down, renew and rejuvenate. On a dark night, stargazing is glorious, and some summer evenings one can barely tell where the fireflies end and the stars begin.

Our location is about 13 miles from the town of Viroqua, which has a wonderful Saturday morning farmer's market May-October, the renowned Driftless Cafe, and the Viroqua Food Co-op, among other things. The Organic Valley Food Co-op was established in this area in 1988, and the area in known for an abundance of fresh organic 'farm to table' food. The famous 'Driftless Books' is also found in Viroqua, along with live music on Court Street every other Saturday. Music in the Parks also offers live music in the area on Wednesdays throughout the summer.
We are 22 miles from the Kickapoo Valley Reserve, and a bit further North, from Ontario WI, one may embark by canoe or kayak, through some of the most stunning landscape to be found in Wisconsin.
This area is called The Driftless because it lacks glacial drift, which refers to the deposits of silt, gravel and rock that glaciers would have left behind had they passed through this part of Southwestern Wisconsin. The area is unique in that the land here was never flattened by the ice that came through most of the Midwest during the last glacial period/ice age. When glaciers were in surrounding areas, the melt-water sometimes made its way into the Driftless Area and contributed to the formation of the valleys and bluffs which characterize the landscape, which is known for steep hills, forested ridges, deeply carved river valleys, and karst geology with caves and spring-fed cold water trout streams. Ecologically, the Driftless Area's flora and fauna are more closely related to those of the Great Lakes region and New England than those of the broader Midwest and central Plains regions.

The property is 125 acres, triangular in shape and bound by low-traffic township roads on two sides and by farmland at the back of the property.
We have valleys with three ridges, total elevation is about 300 feet from low point to high point. We have two springs on the property that are the source for a small unnamed creek that feeds into Trout Creek and then the Kickapoo River.
The property has walking paths in the grassy pasture areas in the valley (partially mowed), unmowed trails up and down the hillsides and on the ridges, and a high bluff overlook.
We are between the towns of Soldiers Grove and Readstown, 2 miles from the Kickapoo River and US Highway 61 on paved roads. There are public restrooms with showers a 5 minute drive from site in Soldiers Grove, where there is also an RV dump station at 116 Peterson Street.

I enjoyed camping at Jungletown Ridge campground. Prairie site campsite was great. Got to see cattle grazing in the field and could cross the campground to view the river to watch fish jumping in the river plus a verity of birds flying overhead. A very peaceful place to camp for the weekend. Scott and Kimberly are the best camp hosts that you could ever find at any campground. It is a quiet and safe place for all ages to stay at.

We wanted to avoid the crowds Labor Day Weekend and we found the perfect place at Andy and Marla’s Creekside campsite. The location is great for exploring the Driftless Region. The spacious campsite was perfect for our 19 foot travel trailer. It was so nice to be able to purchase firewood ahead of time. We loved the hiking trails and the bird watching right from camp. I watched a trio of young gold finches practicing their flight patterns and listened to a Barred Owl after dark by the campfire. The morning we left we enjoyed the wild turkeys gobbling at the edge of the woods. We had such a peaceful stay. We hope to return next year! (If you need to dump, Soldiers Grove has a really nice and convenient dump station that you can use for $5.)

We loved tent camping on David's land! We arrived with abundant firewood waiting for us. The frog pond does indeed have several adorable frogs!
At our campfire, we were serenaded by coyotes, tree frogs, and a Barred Owl. It was so peaceful.
One of our pups is scared of people and dogs he doesn't know, and David's land offered the solitude we were looking for. On fact, both of our dogs loved being there so much that they threw a little protest when it was time to leave!
The location is also awesome, with proximity to many hiking and canoeing options.

Scott gave us a tour of the site. It has a lake, a river, and a wonderful view. The cabin has two hammock over a hard wooden floor. There are places to answer nature's call and also to shower. Scott was very polite and let us use the refrigerator in the garage.

The hosts were incredibly warm and welcoming! The property is beautifully laid out with lots on amenities! Clean walking trails with benches along the way. There is a wall of bluffs along one trail that was especially cool to walk along. I attended this property for quiet wildlife photography and it didn't disappoint! No public traffic! I would highly recommend this as a place to visit!

I'm not sure what I could say about Scott and Kimberly that hasn't been said before. My wife and I have been to their place camping several times now and will be back again. Easily our favorite place to go.

There were two groups at the river area where I camped. We all got along very well and hung out. Pretty awesome when a bunch of strangers can get together and just laugh and tell stories. Scott and Kimberly came down Sunday morning and we all had a great time visiting with them as well. I love that I found this little slice of heaven.

We had another great time at Scott and Kimberly’s place. Three nights was the perfect amount of time. There were lots of laughs, good food, love, and fun. It’s so nice that Scott and Kimberly share this place with others where you’re able to shed your worries and just enjoy nature and the company you’re with. Speaking of company, it was a full camp this weekend and it was a lot of fun to meet new people and share an evening just enjoying each other’s company. We are already planning next year’s trip! Great location to enjoy a beautiful stretch of the Wisconsin river. David was a great host, made sure we had what we needed to have an enjoyable time. He brought down some kindling to start a fire and had some firewood under a tarp to keep dry with the storms that had just passed on our drive over. Had the solar shower ready for when we got there and popped in on our last night to make sure everything when smooth. He even offered a shuttle for us if we wanted to take our canoe down the river for the day. Great experience and would definitely go back. Very convenient location with some amenities close by if needed.
