The ideal spot for bibliophiles and music lovers alike, the cabin has a record player (byo vinyl), an Amazon Echo with SiriusXM, a large collection of reading materials, including 200+ books and 100+ magazines ranging on topics from nature, music, health and wellness, mindfulness, sustainable living and more. There is also a variety of games, puzzles and coloring books and two yoga mats + blocks. Imagine looking out the Lisney Grand Log Cabin window and realizing that the landscape has remained virtually unchanged for over 10,000 years! While most of the State was covered and scraped by glaciers of the last Ice Age, this small section of the State was not. Hence, its geology remained intact. Locally this region is known as the “Driftless Area” and encompasses both the Kickapoo Valley Reserve State Park (8,600 acres) and the Wildcat State Park (3,600 acres).In this area, archeologist have discovered a total of 596 sites dating between 10,000 to 12,000 years ago inhabited by ancient people. This includes ancient campsites, farming areas, linear and conical mounds, once-occupied rock shelters and many petroglyphs. Such a lovely space in a gorgeous place with great hosts! Betty and Ed were super welcoming, friendly, and accommodating to our needs as guests. Their land is stunning and it was so nice to step right outside the cabin to go on nature walks. The nearby towns are fun to explore too. The photos of their cabin don’t do it justice, it’s very cute and thoughtfully designed! Would happily stay here again.

This was a trip for my spouse and I to celebrate our anniversary, and it was the absolute best experience to have one-on-one time away from kiddos and to be in nature. Betty was a wonderful communicator, very thorough in her instructions and directions, and gave us the lay of the land upon arrival. We were kicking ourselves that we didn’t reserve more than two nights. From hiking to fishing to cooking outside, firepit, cards and movies inside, it was a lovely experience. The cabin itself was perfect. Brand new and very functional. We truly had everything we needed and more. Do yourself a favor and check this place out!

We enjoyed our stay at Peaceful Cabin. The area was beautiful and it was easy to find. The road up to the cabin was doable with AWD. Sarah and her husband were very responsive and helpful during our stay. The cabin is very nice, cozy, and quiet. I was pleasantly surprised that there was a window AC unit as it in the 90s when we arrived and my dog was able to cool off.

Weekend Trip to Driftless Retreat 🍃 🎶 📚

My partner and I absolutely fell in love with this charming little cabin, and the ravine adjacent to the property provided a lush natural view as well as a fun place to explore. We love hunting for cool rocks and fungi, and the ravine delivered. The cabin itself was clean, cozy, stylish, and provided enough amenities to make our stay comfortable and entertaining: the space heaters provided plenty of warmth (to our relief, as our visit fell in late November), the bed was comfortable, and the selection of books was well-curated with titles ranging from classic literature to Lonely Planet travel guides. The refrigerator and hot plate made it easy to keep our weekend getaway budget-friendly without sacrificing all of the modern conveniences, too. The wifi also worked great, and the projector screen was an unexpectedly delightful bonus (as was the little aurora-style light projector for relaxing bedtime ambience). Although there are neighbors across the road, the property itself offers sufficient privacy and immersion in nature, which are always high priorities to me regarding weekend getaway destinations ... I live in the city where you can almost touch the house next door through the window. To top it all off, Marla is a terrific host: her response time to any questions we had was always faster than I expected, and her friendly demeanor made us feel more like welcomed guests than anonymous renters. We will definitely be returning to Driftless Retreat. Thanks, Marla!
