From the flat land at the bottom to the top of the mountain, this is a place where you can find a spot to sit and think, draw, paint, nap, or identify over 30 medicinal plants in their natural habitats (absolutely NO harvesting of medicinals or wildflowers!). Listen to the many birds, spot the wildflowers. Some areas are accessible by wheelchair, while others are not, but all areas offer something to sustain your spirit. Early September Update: The river is at its 100% peak best summer quality. Still quite warm and PERFECT for lounging, floating, kayaking and snorkeling (20 ft visibility or better). A few details about our sites in the general camping area: Sites 1, 3, 8,9,10,11 have 13x20 shade sails, 2,4,5,6,7 have 10x13 shade sails that are also weatherproof. For larger groups, I recommend any of the sites with the larger shade sails as they have a bit more space than the others. Enjoy the nearly direct access to the CO Canal Historic Park and the kid friendly, serene stretch of the Potomac River we border. Choose from 11 similar sites available for your camping pleasure in our clover filled bottomland as well as our Hilltop sites for maximum privacy, exclusivity and star gazing potential. The surrounding old growth forest makes for a great hiking and biking as well as a very accessible and kid friendly cave to explore. All sites now have either 10x13 or 13x20 shade sails available to keep the afternoon sun at bay: recommended. We have two kayaks on site free of charge. We have some life vests, but if you have your own, bring those along. The river's main beach located between sites 7 and 8, is shaded/filtered sun all day long while our smaller beach at site 1 is sunny most of the day and affords some of the nicest river lounging via a rock ledge that spans 4wd or All Wheel Drive are recommended. If it's been relatively dry, single wheel cars are 100% fine. We have ways to mitigate most weather events. Please pre-order firewood and/or shade sails via a message to me when booking your stay and save the 18% "booking fee" or add them via the "extras" section for your site so I can have it waiting for you. $40 buys you a long night's ++ burn worth of well-seasoned hardwood. We enjoyed or stay here. Park is in a valley surrounded by the beautiful Shenandoah mountains. You can walk along the Shenandoah river. Road leading to the campground is very steep, so make sure your vehicle is capable of pulling your camper out. We had a hiccup the last day, but Mandy worked with us to stay another night, which we appreciated. All in all, a nice place. We will definitely stay here again.

Camping at Notaviva was wonderful. Watching the sunrise over the vineyard was amazing! The rows of lavender plants were an added treat. The tasting room was a magnificent setting to sip wine and admire the property. We were so glad we had the opportunity to meet Shannon who responded promptly to all communications. She was extremely accommodating and anticipated our needs. We will definitely return to this great getaway!

Weekend Trip to South River Farm Campground

This campsite seems to be brand new and getting off to a great start. Sean was super responsive. I mean SUPER. If he doesn't respond on the app messaging within a hour or so (during the day) then he's probably dead. Their listing states there is an active RR line across the river. It is but I only heard a couple trains roll through during the weekend. I was a little surprised at the approach to the campground. The road from 619 to the campsites is well maintained gravel but pretty steep on the back half (doable but steep and I had not expected this with a lot of the Shenandoah Valley being pretty flat) and not sure if you have enough room to pass by an oncoming vehicle (1 1/2 lanes?). Ideally this problem is alleviated by the staggered check in and out times. The RV sites were all back in and well done with gravel. The Bathhouse was new and clean (2 stalls, 2 showers for both sides). I didn't pick up firewood but it was available. Access to the river was easy and available on either end of the line of yurts. There is a portajohn next to site 10 so be aware of some additional traffic near your site. Site 10 also adjoins a "communal space" by the river access. No one was there when I was (other than one guy fishing and a couple of kids with parents). The place is dog friendly and folks are doing a good job cleaning up after them. Overall, a great little place that looks like it has plans to expand and improve over time.

Weekend Trip to The Amy Resort

We stayed for one night in our 44ft 5th wheel with our 2 boxers. The host Russ was very nice, welcoming & accommodating. Anyone with a big rig like ours should know that when we arrived we weren’t sure we could get under a cable line above one of the entrances. So we drove down the road to come in another way but that wasn’t possible to make the turns, so we had to come back to the original entrance & Russ had to use a pole to raise the cable line for us to fit under. Once we got in we had to jockey it a bit to get a good position on the blacktop. We had to use our extension to our power cord to reach the h/u. (Russ offered an extension) The site was levelish. The area had nice grass for our dogs & the neighborhood was quiet enough. No disturbances at night. The next morning Russ was trimming some limbs to make it so we wouldn’t rub those too much 🙂. Please note that Google Maps will take you to their house, their HIpcamp spot is behind the house to the right of their house. All in all it was a good overnight stop & it was nice chatting with Russ.

This place was a splurge but is by far the nicest RV/Campground Ive been to. After several days off grid, this was a perfect reset. I was able to wash my clothes, sheets and towels while hanging out at the pool. Felt so amazing to have everything clean and fresh. Showered and shaved and felt like a whole new person! Didn’t want to leave. Would definitely recommend and visit again if in the area.

Hidden gem right outside Shenandoah! We stayed in a full hook-up RV site with our travel trailer and had a fantastic experience. South River Farm Campground is small, super well-kept, and wonderfully peaceful. The river access is a major highlight—they even provided a few chairs so you can sit right in the water! We bought some tubes and spent the day in the river. On top of that, it’s only a 5-minute drive to the Front Royal entrance of Shenandoah National Park, making it super easy to jump on Skyline Drive and hit the trails for a couple of hikes. Highly recommend!

Weekend Trip to The Amy Resort

Amy and Milton were very nice and accommodating hosts. They make you feel right at home, are humble and are great to have a conversation with. The RV spot had everything we needed. We were able to enjoy seeing a family of deer up close that visited behind our RV on more than one occasion. The neighborhood felt safe and we had a couple of walks through it. The location is conveniently located to nearby locations for sightseeing, family friendly communities with parks and recreation and events. It also is close to highways to neighboring towns. We definitely will be staying there again.

We had an excellent time RV camping here. We met up with family who booked a campsite right next to us and it was absolutely perfect. It’s not too crowded, you have plenty of room for activity and to enjoy yourself. They provide a fire ring every other lot. Luckily we were able to share with our family members, but you may need to share with other people next to you. Great way to make new friends! The campsite was very well kept up and clean. There is a river that runs alongside the campground with river access for tubing and fishing. It was also very close to Shenandoah national Park, which was our favorite part. One of the entrances was only about 10 minutes away and had excellent hikes and endless beauty. Both the campsite and National Park allow dogs, so nice!!! My dog had the time of her life. Would absolutely recommend staying here.

2 nights at South River Farm Campground

The location was perfect for us to go to the Dickey ridge entrance of the national park. The river was so beautiful, we spent a full day birdwatching seeing great blue herons, osprey, and northern flickers. Every site has a wonderful view, especially of the stars at night. We had a very nice interaction with both the groundskeeper and Sean’s dad. Everything there is very well cleaned and taken care of. It was not very buggy at all at the end of August/beginning of September, helped in part by many beautiful dragon flies around the river. Great experience ! We will go back again

Great experience loved the campground ! Nice and quiet by the river . The road down to the campground was a little steep and we were afraid we wouldn’t make it out easily but after putting it in four wheel drive it was not a problem .

I love campgrounds like this. Not only are the skies spacious, but so are the camping pads. I will definitely make this a repeat. The surroundings are breathtaking.
