Weekend Trip to Spruce Mountain Cabins

This was a great cabin to have in such a remote location, located within minutes of all of the wilderness one could desire. If you are visiting Seneca Rocks, Spruce Knob or anything else in the area I would recommend staying here.

Great campground along a beautiful river. Quiet and clean. The owner has went to great lengths to preserve trees that provide shade and a buffer between sites. I've stayed at this campground multiple times and will definitely be back.

We really enjoyed our time with Vince at Brooklyn heights. Campsite was nice and secluded with plenty of shade and trees to hang a tarp. The site had a firepit and they had firewood for sale, but we opted to just use our solo stove and wood chips we brought from home. There is no picnic table so remember to bring a folding table. The toilets are just porta-potties, but they were kept very clean. There was a sink for washing dishes which was convenient. Overall we really enjoyed our time with Vince and the other camp hosts and hope to be back soon :)

2 nights at Brooklyn Heights Riverfront Camp

My husband and I stayed at Brooklyn Heights for the second time, and it was just as amazing as we remembered—if not better! We went on a beautiful hike with stunning views, spent a relaxing afternoon playing on the beach by the river, and met some awesome, friendly people during our stay. The cabin was cozy and comfortable—such a peaceful place to unwind after a day of exploring. Brooklyn Heights has definitely become one of our favorite spots, and we’re already looking forward to our next visit!

Great campsite and a ton of options depending on what you're looking for. If you have kids, you can't ask for more, as the campsite sit on both an easy to bike road and a placid part of the Dry Fork of the Cheat River to play in -- would be great for inner tubes when it's warm. The campsite was very quiet and tidy and they even had a coffee station, which was very appreciated. I will definitely be back! Vince is also a very welcoming host and checked in a couple times, which is always great.

Love this campground. Vincent was really helpful, upgraded me to a cabin when weather looked rough. Really beautiful area, right on the river. There is a nice communal sitting area and a communal fire pit. Lots of different types of sites, something for everyone.

The campground is nicely situated in a valley away from public eye. We were the only ones staying at the primitive tent site for two nights. The campsites are nicely nestled within tall trees that provide plenty of wood for the fire. The campground does offer firewood for a great price. Unfortunately we had brought our own wood, but there was also plenty of wood to forage for and we ended up leaving a nice pile for the next camper. Watch for small branchs and twigs falling. The wildlife viewing was pretty awesome and the night sky was great for stargazing. Dont forget to bring a hammok for your site. Highly recommend this location. PS, very clean toilet!!!!

Enjoyed the stay, clean, quiet place. Vincent was very welcoming, and definitely desires for people to have a fun relaxing time. We were there in late winter/early spring so didn't get to experience everything he has to offer, but planning on another stay for sure.

We loved our stay here! Vincent was an excellent host, very friendly and helpful! We enjoyed foraging for firewood and camping under a clear and beautiful starry night sky. Very peaceful. Would for sure recommend!

Brooklyn Heights Campground is a fantastic place to stay! The campground is well-maintained and very clean, making for a comfortable and enjoyable experience. The host was amazing—friendly, welcoming, and attentive to guests’ needs. One thing to note is that it can get quite windy, so be prepared if you’re tent camping or setting up an awning. That said, the price was very fair for the quality of the facilities and hospitality. Overall, a great spot for a relaxing getaway!

Vince cares about his campground and those whocshare the space. Be amenities are coming in 2025, including a dump station. The drive in was beautiful but would have been an issue with someone driving out. Road was narrow but had pulloffs. We would go again.

Relax and rejuvenate on our 190 acre mountain paradise - a unique WV experience offering 5+ miles of hiking trails, fishin' ponds, mountain top patio, dark skies star gazing, wildlife watching. Each of our lodging spaces is set apart from others (the barn cabin and the solar snug cabin are the closest at about 100' apart) and are unique, varying from a luxury apartment to an off grid solar cabin. Each cabin has a fire pit and picnic table and is stocked with essentials - linens, towels, plates, cups, utensils, some pots, pans, spices, oil, coffee, etc. Many amenities are available such as the use of the event kitchen (available most of the time), 900 sq ft picnic pavilion, free spring water, free firewood. We are about 1 hr 15 mins from Harrisonburg VA, and about 3 1/2 hours from the Washington DC metro area, Richmond VA, or Pittsburgh PA. Our closest town, Franklin WV, is 10 mins away. Seneca Rocks, nRocks, Spruce Knob are within an hour's lovely drive. Monterey VA and the gorgeous Blue Grass Valley are within 30 mins. Dolly Sods, Blackwater Falls, Green Bank Observatory, Canaan Valley are superb day trips. The Thorn Creek Wildlife Management area, renowned for trout fishing, is 10 mins away. We are on a scenic bicycle / motorcycle route. Bonus - The 1800s Ananias Pitsenbarger Farm with its 16 remaining buildings, an historic district on the National Register of Historic Places, is on property - please explore it! It was a self sustaining Appalachian homestead. The Pitsenbargers were hard workers, but also quite colorful characters who employed witch-doctoring, used healing herbs, and enjoyed entertaining, playing music, and making and drinking lots of hard cider. The main road to the Harrisonburg VA area went right by their house and they had a lot of visitors who took a break from their travels and their work to visit, i.e. "loaf." As a result, in the 1800s locals called the property "Loafer's Glory." We think the name is still perfect for the place! Come on out and relax - "loaf" a little bit!
