1 night at Hideaway Hills Primitive Camp

We had the best time at Hideaway Hills! The site itself is spacious and beautifully laid out with plenty of room to spread out, unwind, and truly enjoy nature. The hosts thought of everything: they provided fresh water, a fire starter, and even a lighter, which made getting settled in super easy. The site was much larger than expected (pictures def don’t do it justice!) and we had plenty of room for us to spread out, which is nice when traveling with teenagers. The privacy tent and camp toilet were thoughtful touches that made the primitive setup feel so much more comfortable. My husband and I really enjoyed our coffee in the morning on the deck while the kids slept in, soaking in the peaceful surroundings before the day got going. Fishing was absolutely amazing (the catfish are HUGE) and the nearby hiking trails were well marked and full of wildlife. We saw deer just off the trail, and the kids got a kick out of the owls hooting all around us. Even though we didn’t bring our dogs this time, we definitely will next time! The site is incredibly dog-friendly, with water bowls, treats, and the sweetest resident dogs It’s rare to find a place that feels this peaceful and secluded, yet so welcoming. Kelli and Doug went so above and beyond, you instantly feel like family. Can’t wait to come back!

Weekend Trip to Triple D Retreat

We had a great time tent camping at this site, it was clean and well taken care of. The area is beautiful and the wood bundles we got were top notch hard wood. We were impressed and will be staying again soon!

Weekend Trip to Trothwood Forest

Whispering pines was a great site!! Jim and his wife are very nice people. The site it's self was very quiet, with multiple trees to choose from to hang a hammock from. There is also plenty of room for a tent as well.

2 nights at Baileys Basecamp

The Ridge Camp A site was beautiful to spend a couple of days in. The person who helps shuttle people’s gear up to it, Keith, was so nice and helpful! The platform for our tent was much appreciated, as we arrived after a day-long rain. We also appreciated being able to pre-order a dozen eggs and have firewood up top to purchase when we needed it. We came to this area to go hiking and wow, did we get some steep hiking in just going down to the bathroom! It was worth it to stay up in the ridge but just be prepared! And speaking of bathrooms, there were two super clean, brand new ones with showers on-site to share with other guests. That was a real plus. Also down by the bathrooms was a little community hangout spot with picnic tables, hammock stands, Adirondack chairs, and a firepit. Another bonus. Love this place, would definitely stay again.

I’ve stayed at this campground multiple times, and I have to say—it’s one of the best, if not the best. The hosts go above and beyond to make your stay even better, whether it’s bringing you an extra lighter or helping you up the hill to your campsite. They’ve got you covered! This is my favorite place to camp, and I’ll keep coming back—so should you!

Weekend Trip to Limestone Bluffs

The Wolves Retreat site was quiet, private and surrounded by nature. The wooden platform was ideal for our screen house as it chose to rain most of our stay. We have a small teardrop and it fit in the site just fine but the grading of site limits your options. We didn’t want to get too creative as the ground was wet and didn’t want to get stuck. There are a few other sites on the property but only heard others if they were walking on the loop road by our site. The loop could use a little more gravel in places but other wise a nice road to the sites. There is firewood for sale but it was wet as the shed it was stored in wasn’t covered enough. The host was quite responsive with the reservation and in providing details. We walked around the trails and the other sites seem nice too. The Bluffs is only 1.5 hours from home for us and most likely we will be back again.

Weekend Trip to Tenderfoot Learning Lab

Excellent campsite near Athens and Lake Hope State Park. It was great chatting with Travis and learning about what they did at Tenderfoot. There are two sites on the property and we stayed at the larger one, called Deciduous Downtime. It was a short downhill walk from the parking area to the site. The site itself is surrounded by the woods and very peaceful. You don’t really see the house at all from there. One thing to point out though is the ground is not completely level across the site. We didn’t find it to be a deal breaker though. We had enough room for two tents and a big shelter that we could put over the picnic table. Note there is just one tent pad. The outhouse is clean and well kept and there’s lots of trails on the property to explore. We'd highly recommend staying here!

The most perfect camping experience. Felt secluded and in the middle of a forest, without being completely disconnected. I had cell service the whole time and felt very safe, especially camping alone. Beth was an amazing host and was just a text away. If you’re feeling like camping on your own to escape real life for a little bit, this is where you want to go.

1 night at Cozy mountain log cabin

Peaaceful, trees and sunlight, 10 different bird species singing in the morning 🐦‍⬛🤓; easy to find location definitely off the beaten path up some dirt roads. Cabin was clean on bed was very comfortable. There are trails on the land that are meant for ATVs, which I didn’t use, but I walked on them with my dog and the solitude was great William was very accommodating and went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable. New private hot tub. I didn’t get a chance to get in it to tired from traveling. The area is gorgeous. If you have not been just riding through the countryside hills was serene.

3 nights at Altenbrauch Farm

We really enjoyed our stay. It's a beautiful piece of property you can tell they've put a lot of work into. Plenty of places to stay along the creek and many options to spread out so you have a bit of privacy. It's nice and quiet except for the occasional local dirt track driver coming down the gravel road. We just stayed there the whole time it was nice and relaxing. The Port-a-jon was clean the solar shower worked it wasn't very warm but it was mid April. When we were there my buddy and his son helped me rack it back to the left as the door was stuck. I'd advise walking the 4x4 paths before heading off on them if you haven't been there yet. It's a very cool place to stay.

We had such a blast on our Easter camping trip. Process was easy. Land well maintained. Only had 3 other groups out there so we basically had the land to ourselves. Had little things that we didn't think to pack available for purchase. Only downside was Digger bees at our site but they were harmless. Will definitely be returning this summer.

We loved camping here! We stayed in both the hickory hut and the bus and both were delightful. We came for hocking hills but also loved just hanging out on the land. Very good vibes, Kate and Austin were very kind, the trails at the property were really nice. 10/10

Immerse yourself in nature alongside a working farm! Our 15 acre property has many features. Enjoy hiking trails, a small 3 season creek, rock walls and large boulders, trickling waterfalls and caves if you're feeling adventurous. (The cave is currently an off trail experience, is only accessible at certain times of the year and requires steep hiking and some climbing large rocks.) An abundance of wildflowers and native flowering trees grow amongst the beautiful rolling hills of forest. In spring the wildflowers paint the landscape, in the summer the fireflies compete with the stars in a sparkling symphony and in the Fall colors fill the trees. You will experience true darkness, bright stars and the simplicity of being out in the country. We are a small homestead raising much of our own food. It's likely you will be greeted by dogs, cats, chickens, sheep, pigs and a cow. The property is adjacent to hunting club land, which means hundreds of acres of undeveloped, wooded and wild. Wildlife is abundant, including coyote, fox, bobcat, turkey, raccoon, hawk, owl, (reportedly) bear and lots of deer. Most are nocturnal, so you may hear them rather than see them, but they are near. Our livestock guardian dog keeps the pasture occupants safe, but that means nighttime barking. We provide noise machines in the cabin for white noise and you are welcome to bring a small fan. We live in a rural neighborhood, so there will be occasional sounds from other dwellings, there is a dog rescue across the street and although infrequent, you might hear ATV's and gun shots from down the road. There are copperheads snakes in the area as well as black widow and brown recluse spiders. You will not likely see them but it is wise to wear boots and stay on the trails. The cabin and campground currently share a composting toilet/outhouse with a space for hanging a shower bag (you must bring your own shower bag). There are 5 gallon jugs of water for filling shower bag, hand washing station and dish washing. There is a Berkey water filter in the cabin, but campers will need to bring their own drinking water. Please be aware that you may have minimal cell service during your stay and there is no wifi. The best place to get a good cell signal is the parking lot. The town of Amesville is filled with personality and is just 7 miles away. With a convenience store, park and a wonderful restaurant, Parks Place, which serves American fare cooked with a chefs flare and local ingredients. There is also a community studio that offers yoga and other fitness classes. Amesville hosts Coonskin Saturdays from May to October with music, food, classes and more on the Third Saturday of each month. The city of Athens is 20 miles away, with many restaurants and shops, ample grocery stores, movie theaters etc, as well as the beautiful campus of Ohio University. Strouds Run State Park and several Nature Preserves are within 15 miles of us, Baileys Bike Trail System is 20 miles away, Burr Oak is 25 miles away, and Hocking Hills State Park is 50 miles away. It is a spectacular area with so much to offer in the way of hiking and other nature related activities.

Blue Dog Bike Camp

Our little campground began as Bailey Wayne Bike Camp. In 2023 we learned that Wayne National Forest wanted to drop "Wayne" from its name, so we decided to rename our campground and campsites in memory of Raleigh and Blue, two wonderful dogs who we wish were still with us. This area was once a booming coal mining town in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The hollow was made up of hundreds of company homes, several mines, and other company buildings. As the mines died, the forest slowly took over. In the 1980s the National Forest began acquiring ownership. Today, we are just a stone's throw from the new Baileys Trail System. My wife and I have been biking for years; we've spent a lot of time camping and biking in OH, KY, WV, and NC. We primarily ride gravel routes on our tandem mountain bike around Athens and Washington Counties in Ohio. Our property is 3 acres, which offers enough room to open up a couple primitive campsites so we can share the peacefulness of the forest.

Our property currently hosts 6 total Camping Sites.... 3 of them are primitive camping sites that can be pull in's for truck or tent camping & 3 of them tent platform camping sites. Two that are single tiered, and one that we call "The Lookout" that is a 2 tiered platform with room below or above to pop your tent! (your choice). The lower level also includes an outdoor shower, a grill and prep/cooking space for you if you want to entertain guests or family! The property includes several trails, a fully stocked pond and a "Zen Den" Which is a walk up camping location, available for rent, and has a platform at the site as well. Just to give you a sneak peek into the future, we also have plans for a Community Kitchen, more Outdoor Showers and a Stage for concerts/events!! Located within the region and just a short 15-20 min drive from The Bluffs, you can find Lake Alma State Park, and Lake Katherine Nature Preserve, where there are beautiful waterfalls on display, and just a little jog north you can explore the famous Canter's Cave, Leo Petroglyphs Nature Preserve and Jackson Lake State Park. The Campground is just a 8 min drive from downtown Jackson, where you can stop in and sample some of their locally famous places! If your feeling pizza, then you have to try Cardo's or, LaRosa's Pizza, If you want some good local BBQ, hop on over to Rowdy's Smokehouse. If you want to try a Western themed Roadhouse, there's Dakota's, or you can relax by listening to some live music while you eat over at Stockroom 601. If Micro Brewery's are your thing Sixth Sense Brewing Co. is the place for you! Want to just take it easy and learn a little about the region? Just 3 minutes from the Bailey mountain bike trails and the Hockhocking Adena bikeway. We are also 30 minutes from the Hocking Hills or 15 minutes from Strouds Run State Park and if you are a little more adventurous, you are welcome to hike the farm with many uphill climbs or an easier hike to see the little grotto. If going into town is more your speed, Athens is a few minutes away and you can be on the campus of Ohio University in less than 10 minutes without having to leave paved roads.

Each campsite is clearly marked and has a 10 x10 wooden PLATFORM with rings to tie down your tent, fire ring, picnic table, and EMERGENCY USE fire blanket. HIKE TO SITE - you will be hiking between 120 and 240 yards to the campsites from the parking area, uphill, and on uneven terrain of mulched paths. There is a shared pull cart available. Recommend you arrive before dark. The parking area is well lit and there is a solar light above the site name sign. PARKING-There is easy access from the road to assigned parking spots, where you will find a well-maintained area with potable water, solar lighting, port-a-potty, fire extinguisher, shared metal cart and informational sign. You will hike to your reserved and private campsite. If needed and available, there is a metal cart to aid you in transporting your supplies to your site. FIREWOOD – Firewood bundles are for sale at a nearby property. Hocking Vacations Campsites are large, cleared areas located amidst towering trees and surrounded by lush foliage. You will be walking to your site on paths cleared of trees and dense foliage. Wear appropriate shoes as the paths are grassy, uneven in places and may have small roots. Located outside of Catlettsburg, Ky, in the community of Durbin, our 50 acres are on a one-lane, dead end road which makes for a peaceful, quiet night’s sleep under the stars and amongst the trees. Our sites are completely primitive (no running water, no electricity, no sewer), hike-in or 4WD accessible only, in several locations on the hills behind our residence. Potable water (2.6 gallons in a jug with spout) and portable toilet in privacy tent provided. (Privacy tent can also double as a shower if you have a portable shower system) *We will take you to your site with our side-by-side if needed* All sites are ideal for tent campers, overlanding-style rigs, or possibly a small, off- road trailer/camper, with fire ring and firewood provided at each site. You will have access to all trails (for hiking only) and shared access to the fishing pond (Catch and Release only at this time). There are plenty of trees for shade, hammocks, etc. There is also an abundance of wildlife: Birds, deer, turkeys, rabbits, squirrels, bobcats, coyotes, and even an occasional black bear. Large firepit at pond for socializing, if desired. Quiet time from 10pm to 8am as a courtesy to other campers.
