This is such a great place to stay. The host has really gone above and beyond to make a the stay here comfortable. I will be coming back for sure, when the opportunity arises.
The river view added an aesthetic to the experience of the property that certainly enhanced the experience for me. I didn’t get to meet Mike in person but could tell that we share the same values. The place is set up so you can have your privacy or engage with other campers as you wish. I loved the outdoor kitchen!
Excellent stay. I loved the grounds and how peaceful it was. Mike greeted me when I arrived and showed me our spot. My dog enjoyed being off leash and running around like she does at home. 3 other dogs and all were chill with each other. I would go back if I was in the area for sure.

Right next to the gentle green Coal river. Mike let us use his kayaks. Grassy acres, lots of comfy sitting stations. We love Hipcamp because of places like this.

Beautiful camping spot!
Outdoor kitchen is fully equipped, well stocked wood for an evening fire by the river. In the morning be sure to watch all the birds, we watched three woodpeckers work their way through the trees.
Friendly atmosphere
Camp Comatose is a great place to stop for a night or spend a few days. The sites are level and clean. The bathroom and shower is clean and sufficient for the small camp. The hosts are very friendly and accommodating. Would definitely stop by there again if traveling through.
Mike and Cori were an excellent host! Would stay there and plan on inviting others. Highly recommend.
What can I say except… WOW! Camp Comatose was my first HipCamp experience and I was beyond impressed… From the moment I made my reservation (and even before when I was still on the fence), Mike was an amazing host. He responded quickly to my many inquiries, made suggestions on the best places for us to set up two tents, loaned us whatever we needed, and offered us shelter should we have gotten rained out. Mike, his wife, and the other campers, who are regulars, were super kind and helpful! We felt welcomed from the start! Even the dogs greeted us with smiles and invited us to play ball!
The campground itself is pretty awesome too! We enjoyed being able to pitch our tents by the river…. there were kayaks on site free for our use, a fully stocked outdoor kitchen, the cutest bathroom I’ve ever seen at a campground, and I guarantee that anything you may have left at home, Mike’s got right there and will loan it with a smile! The best part is, Camp Comatose is only 15 minutes from home, so I believe I’ve found my new summer weekend getaway spot!

I stayed right by the river.Super cute place with a clean hot shower. My dog loved to have a swim before we hit the road. Camp Comatose is awesome.
Friendly, helpful host. Beautiful riverfront location. Clean one-person bathroom (toilet, sink, shower). Great outdoor kitchen, picnic table, fire pit, and chairs. Fireflies, cicadas, Canada geese, and geese. Very quiet.

Camp Comatose was an absolute gem! The property had the perfect mix of peace, privacy, and personality—it truly felt like an escape from the noise of everyday life. The campsite was clean, comfortable, and clearly cared for, and the hosts made us feel genuinely welcome. It was the kind of place where you can slow down, breathe, and enjoy the outdoors without feeling crowded or rushed. We left relaxed, refreshed, and already talking about coming back. If you’re looking for a unique and memorable Hipcamp experience, Camp Comatose absolutely delivers. Highly recommended!
Beautiful place by the river with very interesting and friendly hosts. Mike could not have been kinder and more personable are, and the 2 acres are beautiful and very close to the hospitals and downtown area of Charleston. Highly recommend this little oasis!
Camp comatose was great! The bathrooms were clean, the area was quiet and the camper spots were flat. We would definitely stay here again!

This is a sweet spot along the Coal River. Mike is a gracious host and the spot has everything you could ask for including a full bath house. We stayed 2 nights and would come back if traveling the area again.

Our stay was only overnight, but the facilities were pretty remarkable. Mike has put a lot of work into making available the resources for pretty much anyone’s vacation complete. I was very impressed by the outdoor kitchen. Great riverside setting. Mike, thanks for having us.

An awesome retreat by the river. Mike is an extremely welcoming host, he even gave me a tour of the property and garden. Loved cooking dinner overlooking the river! The bathroom and shower are AMAZING, especially after a few weeks using park bathrooms. Would definitely come back again!
We truly enjoyed our stay at Camp Comatose. They have a unique set up where everyone can join in on the fun. It was so relaxing to drink coffee while watching the river.

Nice place to stop overnight on our way to Kentucky
Mike has a great place with an easy going vibe! Great electric and water hookups and loved the river!! Thanks for your hospitality for both of our nights!!
Mike's place was perfect for a halfway stop on our trip from North Carolina to Indiana. He met us when we arrived and made sure we got to our hook up spot. He has a great place just off the river!

This is a funky little spot, don't be put off by the drive in. Mike has created a number (5?) of leveled gravel full hook up sites pretty close together, but very nice. Sweet communal fire pit right on a deck overlooking a little river. Fantastic bathroom with running hot water and shower! We would definitely camp here again. Thank you Mike.
