What says agritourism more than a primitive campground on a sheep farm in the beautiful mountains of West Virginia? Here you’re only a short drive from the New River Gorge National Park where you can go whitewater rafting or take a hike and experience the stunning beauty of the gorge, swim or paddleboard in Summersville Lake or go rock climbing on one of around 150 routes on the crags of the lake. In addition, you’ll be within walking distance of the Gauley River with all it’s wild untamed beauty where you can kayak, swim, fish, paddleboard, or splash in a waterfall. Not to mention being on a sheep farm, you can have the opportunity to learn about wool and wool processing. You can even learn how to felt wool and take home your creation! The Tawney Farm is a small-scale wool sheep farm adjacent to the beautiful Gauley River National Recreation Area and just a short drive to the New River Gorge National Park. Our farm lies nestled in between two beautiful mountains, one of them named Panther Mountain, in the Gauley River gorge. Here we raise Merino and Jacob sheep. Our farm is also home to a miniature horse and chickens. In addition to the NRG and Summersville Lake and Dam, also close by are Carnifex Ferry Battleground State Park where you can see where a crucial civil war battle took place, as well as Babcock State Park with its iconic grist mill and waterfall. We provide 7 sites on our farm for every camping style, from dry RV to tent, each with a table, fire pit and grill. All sites are spaciously separate from one another for privacy and perfect for couples who want to get away from it all, or for families or groups of friends who want to reconnect and catch up. Clean portajohns are provided as well as a common area with a dishwashing station and a "to die for" outdoor hot water shower (above-freezing temperatures permitting)!

Gauley River Adventure

Booked 1 time
RV/tent site · Sleeps 30 · Vehicles under 25 ft
Soooo much privacy! This site is perfect for those visiting Summersville Lake or the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve that don't want to be in a crowded public campground. This nearly 3-acre site bordering the Gauley River National Recreation Area has it all! It can accommodate up to a 25' RV or trailer with 30 Amp electric and water hookup, or a large group of friends who want to tent or vehicle camp, or BOTH! Plenty of room with creek access and just a short walk to the river. Firepit with grill, picnic table, large 10' X 20' tent with table, water and clean, private portajohn provided. Take a short hike to the top of the hill and sit on a bench while you star gaze into incredible night skies. While you're up there, you can even get an LTE phone signal to touch base with loved ones or post your pics on social media. The property spans both sides of the county road. Across the road, there's also a lovely creek that you can splash or wade in. In the summertime, the creek becomes shaded and hidden from view from all the trees and you can have your own private splash party in the deep pool that it forms. It's also a great place to explore or walk your pet! ATVs are welcome at this site only. Priced for up to 10 adults but can accommodate up to 30.
