We had a great time! We camped in the back of the field, and it felt very private. Facilities were clean, and the property was pretty. Susan was very friendly and helpful.

The Nut House
This was a wonderful experience. A truly private cabin experience with acres to enjoy!! The cabin was tidy and the cooking area was spacious with good access to potable water! It was lovely hearing the creek behind us as we slept. Easy access to Gauley recreation area and the river. And close enough to the New River Gorge Bridge for pictures and hiking.

The Nut House
Nut House = Fun House
Susan and her husband are wonderful and so is the property at Tawney Farm! Its secluded and private with easy access to the Gauley national recreation area. Great amenities for slightly less than primitive camping, with electrical outlets for my Traeger grill and charging items in the common area and clean facilities all around. Hot outdoor shower was a nice surprise too!
On top of the location and amenities, Susan her husband, their dog Flo, the sheep - all great hosts and helped us with any and everything we had questions or difficulty with, from finding outlets to setting up propane cooktop (that they provided). They deserve all the positive reviews they can get!!

Special place, with special people
MAGICAL.
We booked this trip looking for a secluded campground to spend a weekend away with friends. What we got was what we wanted plus so much more.
Susan and James were gracious hosts; kind, welcoming, hardworking, and fun to trade stories and chat with.
They’ve really made their home a special place and have extended it to those who happen upon it. Many spots to explore and lovely accommodations (for a primitive camp site) all across their spot.
Beyond the land and the hosts lies the Gauley River. Just a short jaunt from their spot, Susan gives great directions. A great place to spend a hot day like we had.
I could rant and rant, though I’ll leave you to find your own magic there. We will be back again!

Susan was a lovely host and their property is peaceful, camper friendly and the perfect place for a few days away. This was my first time solo-camping and I was a little nervous, but Susan instantly made me feel completely comfortable and I had a great time. I hope to come back soon!

My husband and I spent two nights at Tawney Farm and can’t wait to return someday. Susan was so kind and helpful. She provided detailed directions for navigating the country roads around the property and offered fantastic recommendations hikes and activities in the Gauley River and New River Gorge areas. The camp itself was beautiful, we pitched out tent underneath a mature walnut tree on the edge of the meadow. We enjoyed lovely campfires and stargazing in the evening, and a warm shower in the morning. We even got to meet the sheep and their little dog. Even with a few raindrops that fell on us during our stay, we couldn’t have been more pleased with our camping experience at Susan’s farm.

Relaxing, scenic, and accommodating
Our family had a great time at The camp ground! Susan showed our kids the animals and was very helpful giving us ideas of things to do on site and in the area. We were able to hike on the property as well as visit the local national park and Jani’s hole. We hope to go back again in the future!

The Nut House
Susan and James are two of the nicest hosts you will ever meet! They couldn't have been more helpful or friendlier. The property and amenities were perfect and the surrounding area was absolutely beautiful. The nut house where we stayed was great. Being that James completely built it himself from onsite sourced materials made it even cooler. We especially appreciated the outdoor hot shower! Observing the animals, horse and sheep, up close and having Susan explain the wool preparation process was a real treat! Overall, our stay couldn't have been any better and we will definitely be back!

Can’t recommend this place enough!
On our hunt to find a more private stay we stumbled upon The Wild & Woolly Farm and couldn’t have been happier!! The grounds are gorgeous- equipped with hiking trails, a stage, a quick walk to the Gauley River, and a common area. There even is an incredible hot shower and running water for cleaning up, dishes, etc. Also appreciate that the porta-Johns were sparkling clean. The hosts were also amazing! We greatly enjoyed talking with them and they even helped us to fix our tire when we got a flat. Can’t wait to take our friends and family here to visit!

The hosts are awesome! We have a rooftop tent and had no trouble finding a flat spot in their lower field next to a fire pit. The site is up a well-maintained gravel road and quiet. There is hot and cold running water and a shower. Terrific site and a great place to explore the Gauley and New River areas. I'd love to come back.

Great hosts & perfect spot to camp!
I could not have picked a better place for a great trip with the family! The hosts were incredible (thanks for everything Susan!) and their farm is a perfect spot for a small family like ours to go and get away for a few days or for a large group looking for a great spot with plenty of space to accommodate everyone. Plenty of wild and beautiful West Virginia all around and within a quick drive!.

Beautiful, peaceful, and relaxing
Susan is such a welcoming host. Her sheep farm is situated in a beautiful spot at the foot of a mountain and a short hike from the Gauley river. The campsite has everything you need, Including clean porta johns, shelter structures in case of rain and even the luxury of a sink with hot water for washing dishes and an outdoor shower. There’s no shortage of great views of the mountains from hiking trails on the farm or down by the Gauley River. Tawney Farm is marked on my map as a place I hope I can return to soon.
It is truly a gem!

Great weekend!!
We camped at the farm for a guys weekend and had a blast. Susan and James are excellent hosts and we loved the various options of where to camp on the property. This was our first time in the area, and they went out of their way with advice / directions to all that we wanted to see. More than anything, they are good people - fun to chat with, way chill, and they made sure we had a great weekend. Highly recommend!!!

A piece of heaven
My wife and i stayed at thos beautiful campsite for her birthday the mountain views and peacefulness was just what we wanted wildlife everywhere a flock of turkeys and a small deer spent the first evening within 25 yards at some points almost as if they were tame you also have sheep on the farm, TIP we stayed in july in the off season you will have it all to yourself if you like they have a pavilion with all amenities including a shower the host Susan and her husband were great gave us a wheel barrel full of firewood even came out and let me know there was a storm coming so i could prepare so if you need a little heaven away from home then this is the place also 5 minutes from the river and not far from new river gorge bridge so give them a try WE LOVED IT

If you want to get away from it all
Susan and James are great hosts, they made us feel welcome and happily answered every question we asked. The site, bathrooms, and shower where very clean, the shower was the most comfortable outdoor shower we've ever seen. We even got fresh eggs before heading back home. It was great, highly recommended.

Private, Quiet, Great River Access
Susan and James were great, just checked us in and left us to chill. We loved the private setting of Tawney Farm and the river access was ideal - the road to the river is literally right at the end of their driveway. Although we weren't there for whitewater season, the tubing was great and the river was nice and cold in July. We took a 24 foot RV there with no problem. Definitely going back on a regular basis.

We'll be back for sure!
What an exceptional place to stay! The hot shower, covered barn area, and clean portajohns were such a terrific bonus for us with our camper. Not only were the surroundings beautiful, but the primitive camping sites were well marked with switchbacks along a creek for a true nature experience, if that's what you want instead! Best of both worlds. Susan and James are top notch! We'll be booking again this season!
