Abrams Creek is like camping in a nature preserve, rather than in a commercial campground.  On our campground, there are no generators, loud electronics, or other things that would distract from appreciating the sights and sounds of this pristine natural environment.   And this is always a great place to beat the heat! We have a mountain climate; the peak temperature most days in the summer is in the high 70's or very low 80's, and at night, temperatures go down to about 60.  You'll be breathing cool, clean, fresh mountain air all day long! Hot showers are included, and all sanitary facilities are *sterilized* between guests.  We have taken every measure to safeguard your health! We are located in the mountainous Potomac Highlands region of West Virginia. Our vision is an environmentally conscious, eco-friendly campground developed in harmony with nature. We are not only a business, but also serve as an anchor for others who want to live more simply and close to the earth. Welcome, Travelers We’re happy to have you! Our little campground off I-81 is growing — with brand new sites ready for folks just passing through or looking to unwind for a night under the stars. You can hop right off the interstate, roll on in, and find yourself surrounded by Green Arborvitae Trees . Out here, nature does most of the talking — you might spot deer slipping through the trees, a few turkeys wandering by, or bunnies bouncing across the grass. This is a host-free, self-check-in spot, so no worries about showing up late. Come when you can — just please don’t roll in before 4 PM without a heads up. We’ve got a roomy drive-through meadow for easy parking, back-in nooks for smaller rigs, and some new cozy spots tucked away for extra privacy. We’re still expanding and adding more, so there’s always something new taking shape. We keep things simple and seasonal out here. If you’d like some farm-fresh goods, just let us know — we’ll ride up with a couple of baskets when we’re around. Offerings change with the seasons, but you might find fresh produce, homemade goods, or farm eggs when the hens are laying (they usually take a break through fall and winter here in Zone 6). If you’re looking to hang around longer, we do allow extended stays when space allows — and there’s usually a bit of farm work or odd jobs available if you’d like to trade some time for a reduced stay. Stay a night, breathe deep, and let the quiet do its thing. Safe travels, and we’ll see you down the road.

The concept of rural revitalization means reinventing rural life so that it is economically sound, intellectually stimulating, and emotionally satisfying. Ask any of our staff if you would like to learn more about this!

Where to go

Potomac Highlands

Winding mountain roads and backcountry hiking trails lead the way through the Allegheny Mountains and the Monongahela National Forest in eastern West Virginia. Four-season adventures await at Blackwater Falls State Park and Canaan Valley Resort State Park, which harbor some of the region’s best ski slopes, while rock climbers congregate at Seneca Rocks. Further east, Harpers Ferry is the gateway to the Appalachian Trail and home to the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park.

Mountain Lakes

West Virginia’s central lakelands offer a welcome change of pace for campers. Pitch your tent or park your RV by Summersville, Sutton, or Stonewall Jackson lakes, and take to the water to boat, kayak, paddleboard, or fish. Encircled by forested mountains, there are still plenty of opportunities for hiking, especially at Audra and Holly River state parks.

Mid-Ohio & Metro Valleys

Victorian-era mansions and historic towns dot the banks of the Ohio River in the Mid-Ohio Valley, where campers can enjoy simple pleasures like woodland walks, river fishing, and sipping craft beer at a country pub. The 72-mile-long North Bend Rail Trail is the ultimate challenge for hikers and cyclists, and one of the most scenic sections runs through North Bend State Park. Continuing west, Charleston and Huntington are the principal towns of the Metro Valley, while the best campgrounds are hidden away in the Kanawha State Forest.

Southern West Virginia

Raging rivers, soaring cliffs, and vast swathes of wooded hills make up West Virginia’s southern region, affording endless options for adrenaline seekers. Rev up your OTV and explore 800 miles of off-road trails in the Hatfield-McCoy mountains, go mountain biking or horseback riding in Greenbrier State Forest, or check out the state’s best whitewater rafting at the New River Gorge and Gauley River National Recreation Area.
