Retreat to relax at Chuckanut Hills Farm and Campground, a 20-acre energy-regenerative, off-grid family farm nestled at the foot of Anderson Mountain and surrounded by thousands of acres of forest. 30 minutes south of Bellingham in the Chuckanut Mountains, the only finger of the Cascade Mountain Range that reaches all the way
to the Salish Sea.
This wooded forest is part of the Puget Lowland Forest Eco-Region. These hills were the native home of the Saquantch people, a Salish coast tribe that fished and hunted the mountains surrounding Lake Whatcom. They lived in long lodge homes and were later pushed out by the invading Lummi Tribe. The Lummi Tribe was later pushed out by Western logging companies, and the entire mountainous region was heavily logged for a number of years.
Where our farm now rests was once the second of many logging camps built by Ed English, and he cut our gravel farm road in 1900; a railroad ran through the lower part of our property, taking logs from Lake Whatcom down to the little boom town of Seattle.
Our intention while being caretakers of this ancestral land is to restore native plants, raise heirloom produce and heritage animals, and provide a restful nature paradise for people looking to spend time in the outdoors.

Hike the several miles of nature trails on the hillside and explore our 65 acres of certified forest. Retreat to relax at Chuckanut Hills Farm and Campground, a 20-acre energy-regenerative, off-grid family farm nestled at the foot of Anderson Mountain and surrounded by thousands of acres of forest. 30 minutes south of Bellingham in the Chuckanut Mountains, the only finger of the Cascade Mountain Range that reaches all the way
to the Salish Sea.
This wooded forest is part of the Puget Lowland Forest Eco-Region. These hills were the native home of the Saquantch people, a Salish coast tribe that fished and hunted the mountains surrounding Lake Whatcom. They lived in long lodge homes and were later pushed out by the invading Lummi Tribe. The Lummi Tribe was later pushed out by Western logging companies, and the entire mountainous region was heavily logged for a number of years.
Where our farm now rests was once the second of many logging camps built by Ed English, and he cut our gravel farm road in 1900; a railroad ran through the lower part of our property, taking logs from Lake Whatcom down to the little boom town of Seattle.
Our intention while being caretakers of this ancestral land is to restore native plants, raise heirloom produce and heritage animals, and provide a restful nature paradise for people looking to spend time in the outdoors.

Hike the several miles of nature trails on the hillside and explore our 65 acres of certified forest. Placards on the nature trail are part of our self-guided tour and provide information about forestry and the plants and animals that call this their home. There are abundant wildflowers and seasonal berries to pick, as well as a variety of fall apples and pears in the old orchard available for self harvest. Campsite was very cute. The woodchips made for a comfy place for our tent and overall very cosy. It was lovely to see the birds and then hear the frogs at night. Tried to do the trail loop around the pond but needed more waterproof boots so being some in case! Still did a walk along the trail. Close enough to civilization to not have to drive far but still felt like we got some nature in. Spent the afternoon in Bow/Edison which was a quick drive.
Nice spot, some cars drove by on the backroad but never felt worried about our site

Just a 25 minute drive to see the tulips and the cute town of Mount Vernon is very close. A nice combo of wilderness and urban accessibility. We’ll for sure be back!

Stayed in spot 65 and it was perfect for the weekend! It’s right across the street from the beach and I woke up to the view of the ocean. Picnic table and fire pit provided. Bathroom facilities were some of the nicest I’ve ever used camping.

I absolutely loved my one night camp so I booked it again :)
The frogs started croaking at dark and it was so soothing, that I slept like a baby.

DeAnn was a wonderful host, she took me around her property and showed me around the trails and down to the water that runs through. She so kindly moved my reservation to the cabin since no one booked it for the dates I would be there, I appreciate the fully stocked kitchen, it had everything you could possibly need and some. The view from the living room was amazing! She even brought me fresh chicken eggs from a friend for $5! I would highly recommend staying here. DeAnn is such a sweetheart!

Great little spot just a short drive from downtown Maple Ridge. The spot is perfect for my car and small SUV tent. It was quiet and peaceful and the hosts met me to show me the site.
The road in was really soft and muddy due to the atmospheric river and I had no problems thanks to my AWD.

The reviews don't lie: this place is a gem and DeAnn is a sweetheart! We only stayed for one night, but it was exactly what we needed. Even on a cloudy day, we could bask in Whitehorse Mt and Three Finger Mt as the sun set. The house is cozy, well-stocked, and with a great location. Hope to return someday!

Impeccable views from the cabin. Comfortable and clean. The wood stove kept the cabin toasty on a chilly night. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, teas and spices. There is a delightful collection of Buddhist texts to peruse, which pairs very well with the clean mountain air.
We had a lovely stay.
I will say that sound travels extremely easily through the house, so bring a fan or white noise machine if you are a light sleeper. (Though when the weather is warmer you'll be able to open the windows and hear the sound of the nearby creek)

The campsite was very clean and well maintained, and the spot was nicely leveled which made setting up easy and comfortable. One of the best parts was the beautiful view of Clear Lake right from the site. The scenery was absolutely stunning — the night view was peaceful and breathtaking, and the lake covered in morning mist created a truly unforgettable sight. It was a wonderful place to relax and enjoy nature. I would definitely recommend this campsite to anyone looking for a beautiful and well-kept spot to stay.

Orcas Island
Orcas Island is the biggest island in the San Juans, and has plenty of amenities, including restaurants, museums, shops, and camping options. It’s also home to the largest of Washington’s state parks—Moran State Park—a fantastic place for hiking, and boating. Tent and RV camping is available in the park, but campers need to secure reservations ahead of time. If you have your own boat, you can also visit nearby Sucia Island Marine State Park, an uninhabited, pristine spot directly north of Orcas Island.
San Juan Island
San Juan Island is popular among adventurers and history lovers, and the San Juan Island National Historical Park is a must-visit for anyone who wants to learn about the Pig War, a boundary dispute between Britain and the U.S. that all started because of a trespassing pig. The park is for day use only, but you'll find tent and RV sites at San Juan County Park on the west side of San Juan Island, overlooking Haro Straight, and at the San Juan County Fairgrounds.
Lopez Island
The third-most populated island in the chain, Lopez Island offers 63 miles of shoreline and a mix of forests, farmlands, galleries, and boutiques. The island is popular among cyclists, with quiet, mostly flat roads, and has a few great places to camp, including Spencer Spit State Park, which has reservable and hiker/biker sites, a dump station, flush toilets, but no hookups or showers, and Odlin County Park has seven RV sites for vehicles less than 30-feet-long, but no hookups.
Shaw Island
Shaw Island is the smallest of the four main San Juan Islands that are accessible by ferry, with a year-round population of only around 200 people. You can camp at Shaw County Park, which offers 11 tent camping sites, a boat launch, picnic tables, and fire pits. Island facilities are limited, but there is a general store by the ferry landing where you can buy food and supplies.
