Retreat to relax at Chuckanut Hills Farm and Campground, a 20-acre energy-regenerative, off-grid family farm nestled at the foot of Anderson Mountain and surrounded by thousands of acres of forest. 30 minutes south of Bellingham in the Chuckanut Mountains, the only finger of the Cascade Mountain Range that reaches all the way to the Salish Sea. This wooded forest is part of the Puget Lowland Forest Eco-Region. These hills were the native home of the Saquantch people, a Salish coast tribe that fished and hunted the mountains surrounding Lake Whatcom. They lived in long lodge homes and were later pushed out by the invading Lummi Tribe. The Lummi Tribe was later pushed out by Western logging companies, and the entire mountainous region was heavily logged for a number of years. Where our farm now rests was once the second of many logging camps built by Ed English, and he cut our gravel farm road in 1900; a railroad ran through the lower part of our property, taking logs from Lake Whatcom down to the little boom town of Seattle. Our intention while being caretakers of this ancestral land is to restore native plants, raise heirloom produce and heritage animals, and provide a restful nature paradise for people looking to spend time in the outdoors.

Soon we will be getting our winter high tides, sometimes the high water almost kisses the deck. Can be exciting. Come stay in our cabin at the estuary on Turners Bay, where wildlife is abundant and easy to see. The Bamboo cabin is very private and has everything you need to just hang out. Saltgrass's location allows for many fun outdoor activities such as hiking at Anacortes Washington Park or Kukutali Preserve State Park crabbing, fishing, birding, bicycling and, the beach, my kids actually found a bottle with a message inside years ago. Alternatively, you could explore the many little shops in the towns of La Conner and Anacortes. There are multiple activities available, I would suggest calling ahead in order to book kayaking, rock climbing, whale watching, or a sailing charter. You could easily take a day trip to the San Juan Islands by taking a ferry ride out of Anacortes, walk on or book ahead if you are taking your car. Also, the Swinomish Casino and golf course are within two miles. While you're here you may meet our pup Turner, we also have two cats and several chickens. On the property are your hosts Jeri and Nancy, as well as our handyman Sean, Saltgrass boasts beautiful flowers, vegetable gardens, fruit trees, and yes, the Bay. We try to live harmoniously with the land. We would love to share our space with you! . We thank you all for visiting our place and hope we meet your expectations. October 10, 2025, A new addition to the bamboo cabin; we built gates that allow you to secure the deck as an outside space for your dog. Our 28 acres are located in between Maple Falls and Glacier, Wa, directly on Mt Baker Hwy on the way to Beautiful Mt Baker. Ben and Tyne run a chemical free farm, on which we raise 7 and 1/2 acres of veggie and flower. 15 acres of pastureland on which we raise pasture raised chicken, as well as biannual lamb and beef. The remainder of our land is breathtaking Pacific Northwest forest that is boarded by the Bay to Baker trail. Our campsites range between walk in wooded sites, and car camping sites that are open field sites next to the tree line. We provide wagons in our cart corral area to make it more convenient for the very short walk in. ( no more then a 200 foot walk in) We have a very nice composting outhouse and hand-washing station. We do not have water for drinking or a dishwashing sink, but if you are in a pinch just ask Ben or Tyne and we can help you out. We want all of our campers happy, comfy, and to have the best time here. :) We have a beautiful cedar grove to enjoy for lounging and picnics. The Bay to Baker trail borders our property, so it is just steps away and includes a 45 min round walk to a quaint little waterfall (maple falls). As well as a nature loop trail. You can also walk the other direction on the trail over a boardwalk. This direction walks along the back of the farm and allows you to see the veggie fields from a distance. Yofu can continue on the bay to baker trail for a nice walk. There is a conservation area, just a quarter mile drive down the road. With access to the Nooksack river, that includes several nice swimming spots and a couple nice walking trials. Silver Lake is just 3.8 miles away. It has a great recreation area, fun for the whole family. Just a heads up , you will probably lose service on your drive up here. But you will get service back when you are here. We suggest putting the map in your phone before you leave. Google maps will take you just past the farm, and apple maps will stop you too soon. So you are looking for the large kragnes family farms sign in the driveway. pull in and follow the camping signs to the back.

Community firepit w/ Free firewood (‘a curated selection of site-grown firewood’ may include: cedar, fir, hemlock, cherry, madrone, etc) has chairs & table. The nearby Tent Shelter features a picnic table, a camp stove w/ propane, picnic table for indoor/outdoor food prep and dining. Covered Recycle & trash cans nearby, our (very clean) Sanican is a short walk from the tent sites. You're staying on a 7 acre, mostly forested parcel, 1/4 mile from Hwy 101, mid way between Port Angeles and Sequim, WA. Some traffic hum, but not much, and it varies depending on how the wind is blowing. We're 4.5 miles E of Olympic National Park Wilderness Information Center. Only 3/4 miles E of the Deerpark entrance to Olympic Natl Park, Elwha, Dungeness & Lake Crescent all nearby. All Campsites, 1- Night minimum, 7-nite maximum stay. Fun fact, here, there have never been actual numbers on the sites, so *yours* will always be the perfect one, which you choose when u arrive). Tents only, NO vehicle/trailer camping. No pets please (per our dogs' request) Safe, secure, private, scenic, no more than two people and one vehicle per site. There is no electricity available in the Tent camping area. (Wifi & recharging at big barn) This is NOT a party camp space. We are a place for peace and quiet where you can enjoy the woods. We are also not suitable for children (if you have tweens/teens, message us). We have too many "attractive nuisances" for young children to be safe. LGBTQIA friendly Our property was thoughtfully develped over 35 years ago by the Funstons, we are 2nd owners. The bathrooms and showers are very clean and their diligence to keep it so is above and beyond. They seem to be available much more than their hours suggest. Stayed Oct 1–4 on a Waterview RV Site (full hookup, 30-amp) in our 20-foot Sprinter. Backed right in overlooking Sequim Bay — the view alone was worth it. Everything worked exactly as promised: power, water, sewer, cable, and Wi-Fi, zero issues across three nights. Tracy was a great host — responsive, easy check-in. Left feeling like we'd found a gem. We'd absolutely stay here again.

This is a great location for beach access, surfing, and just being next to the ocean. We ended up staying here multiple times on our trip because we liked it so much! Relaxing atmosphere, nice staff, and clean. You have quarter operating showers and laundry nice bathrooms and beach access. Tent sites, RV sites, and cabins.

Easy check in with friendly staff at the general store, which is really well equipped. Our site (#2) was a bit unlevel and required a tight-ish turn out, but park was quiet, clean, and laundry machines worked great. No wifi and intermittent cell coverage.

Nice quiet spot to kick back. Close to town. Nice to have full hookups and the bathrooms were kept pretty clean (ecxcept for the very outdated showers.) It was rainy, so we didn’t get to meet the hosts; maybe next time.

I loved staying at Jefferson Co. Fairgrounds. The camp hosts were wonderful! The bathrooms were clean and overall the campground was quiet. There were a few people leaving early in the morning so there was a little noise but very quiet and peaceful at night. Great trails nearby and close to downtown! Would definitely stay again!

You can reserve all of the park’s 172 tent sites, 134 partial-hookup sites, and five hiker/biker sites online.
Deception Pass is a popular state park. Reservations should be made in advance, especially for summer weekends. All campsites can be reserved online, up to nine months in advance of the arrival date.
The Ben Ure Cabin on Ben Ure Island is accessible only by kayak or rowboat, and guests must bring their own water.

When to go

Deception Pass State Park is open year-round. In the Coastal Northwest’s relatively mild climate, there’s never a bad time to visit. Summers, especially on weekends and holidays, are very busy here. But come in the shoulder season—in the spring or early summer, before July 4—or early fall, after Memorial Day, and you’re more likely to find seclusion. Weekdays are generally a better bet, too.

Know before you go

You can rent kayaks and stand-up paddleboards at the Bowman Bay concession stand from April through September.
Visitors will need to display a day-use or annual Discover Pass. The park has automated pay stations dispensing both, along with boat launch permits.
The park has 1.2 miles of ADA hiking trails, in addition to three miles of bike trails, six miles of horse trails, and 38 miles of hiking trails.
