Our 65 acre farm is secluded and peaceful. We have a small pond with catfish, bluegill, large mouth bass (catch and release only) and a gentle creek. We have chickens, sheep, a pig, cows and diary goats. Enjoy a walk down to the pond and take a picture by the old farm house (from the early 1800's) or explore history in the cemetery. You could also take the kids for a hike in the forest and search for mushrooms. At the end of the day you can kick back by the fire pit, stargaze and make some s'mores. Crooked Mountain is a family and Veteran-owned farm, campground, camp store, and small event venue located just ½ mile off the Blue Ridge Parkway at Mile Marker 159 near Floyd, Virginia.
We designed Crooked Mountain to be a unique basecamp for travelers exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains, especially those traveling by van, car, motorcycle, bicycle, or with small RVs. With easy access from the Parkway and scenic mountain roads nearby, it’s a great stop for road trippers, vanlifers, and anyone on two wheels exploring Southwest Virginia.
The campground currently offers 15 campsites across the farm:
• 7 sites on Pine Creek (Sites 1 & 12 have electric)
• 5 field campsites with open views of the surrounding hills
• 3 field sites with electric near the pond (Sites 13–15)
Electric sites provide 30/20 amp power only. There are no water or sewer hookups at campsites.
Guests can enjoy the natural setting of the property and access our hiking trail, fishing pond (catch n release for a fee) and other amenities on the farm while staying here.
Our camp store offers tourism information about Floyd and the surrounding area (including local motorcycle/bicycle maps and routes, along with artisan goods, camping essentials (things you may have forgotten), snacks, drinks, coffee, ice, firewood and more.
During the summer months we also open our fields for a You-Pick flower experience, where guests can purchase a container and create their own bouquet. Flower season typically runs July through September.
Crooked Mountain is located along The Crooked Road: Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail, and the town of Floyd is just 4 miles away, offering live music, local restaurants, breweries, galleries, and the famous Friday Night Jamboree at the Floyd Country Store.

Fall asleep to hooting owls and the gentle ripple of the river and creek that flank your campsite. Wake up with a dip in the river or a morning hike in the woods. Feel the hug of the mountains throughout your stay, while also having access to Blacksburg nearby should you need it.
DIRECTIONS:
Upon entry the gravel road is shared with my neighbor and it is about 1.5 miles from the entry gate to the site. You'll enter thru a gate (it may be closed, if closed please close behind you as my neighbor sometimes has cows). Go approx 1 mile the road will split...go up the hill on the right. Continue past the Hay barn another half mile. Park on the left side of the gravel road along the tree line.
Another 50ft you'll see a wood foot bridge across the creek. The sites are ahead, PawPaw is first, then Bloodroot Base Camp (bell tent), and lastly Cohosh Cove is the most private. Each site has a sign as well
When driving, please be respectful of the right of way. Drive slowly and respect the farm equipment. Also please do not venture onto the neighbor’s property other than entry and exit.

20 minutes from Blacksburg and 35 minutes from Roanoke, our campground gives you great access to the “Triple Crown” of the Appalachian trail, consisting of McAfee Knob, Tinker Cliffs, and Dragon’s Tooth. Conquer these iconic peaks of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains for spectacular views of the surrounding wilderness. Additionally, explore Falls Ridge Nature preserve, Cascades waterfall, and Carvin’s Cove for hiking, kayaking and mountain biking.
Or just stay on the campground and enjoy the hiking and swimming we offer here.
Nearby in Blacksburg take advantage of the local breweries or Virginia Tech football home games. You can also find Christmas tree cutting in Floyd county, 45mins away.
This property deserves to be shared with others. It is peaceful and beautiful. As your Host, I am passionate about conservation and also teaching people about the medicinal uses of our local herbs. I can lead medicinal herb walks upon request for $25 a person.
I typically try to meet the campers if I can upon arrival, I am available for questions and can be hands on or off as the needs of campers suggest. I have had campers ask if I wanted to share a beverage and sit around the fire and have done so. I want to make your experience as enjoyable as possible.
I love the peacefulness the property offers, and that you’re in the middle of the wilderness but also have quick access to things in town. The river campsites are my favorite part of the property. At the main cabin I have goats and chickens which hipcampers are more than welcome to greet.
About the listing
Pitch your tents at the campsite nestled along the side of the mountain on the banks of the North Fork of the Roanoke River. As you fall asleep, listen to the occasional hoot of an owl, howl of a coyote, and gentle ripple of the river and creek that flank the campsite.

He was super accommodating letting us check in late and even took my husband to the local auto parts store to get the part we needed to get back on the road. Hippie Hollow was amazing! Me and my dog spent a long weekend there and I couldn't have picked a better spot. Sly and the other people at the site were so friendly, they suggested great spots in town, and I can't go without mentioning how nice it was to chill in the evening at the bar and hang with everyone. Sly has truly created a magical little place!
Bonus, as a solo female traveler I felt safe and welcome the whole time.

We had such an amazing stay at Hippie Hollow. You can tell Sly has put a ton of heart and hard work into this place. It’s beautiful, peaceful, and really comfortable. The creek running through the property just adds to the whole experience.
The shared kitchen was great, and the people we met there were awesome. There’s a really good energy to the space. Sly was super helpful too, giving us recommendations for local restaurants and some incredible overlooks nearby.
His dog Danby was a sweetheart. Not quite sure how he felt about our dog, but she definitely loved him. She may have been a little much for him.🤣
The bathhouse is spacious and clean. There’s a smaller one available now, and the larger one still under construction already looks like it’s going to be beautiful.
Overall, just a great stay. Easy to find, welcoming, and a place we definitely plan to come back to and spend more time at.

We had an exceptional weekend at Buttermilk Bluff! Katie & Andy are wonderful hosts! The welcome bag is incredibly generous! We actually stayed at site 2, as we were the only ones there. The sites are very wide and well equipped and well maintained. We had such a great time strolling around with our dogs throughout the day, and watching the cows against the beautiful horizon while we relaxed! The pile of firewood, storage boxes, and super convenient dump station are huge bonuses!

Camped out of our van with our two hound dogs. We all enjoyed our time at Stoney creek. Campsite 10 allowed us to have neighbors on one side and a toad filled pond on the other, with direct access to the trails. The creekside trail leads you to a few different spots to fish. There is also a trail wrapping around the property worth wandering. Campground is well taken care of, we will be back.

Having Hipcamp as an app, but never using it I had a pleasant experience here at Stoney Creek. This was a great spot for us as two people in a small campsite in campground. I like that it’s a small facility and there’s even a store right across the street. If you need anything, Chris is very responses and we had a great relaxing weekend will come back for sure.
