The camp is secluded on 42 acres of woods and pasture land just outside Waynesboro, VA. The Upper South River is spring fed, and it runs diagonally through the property. Day lease fly fishing is also conducted on the property. Though urban, it is very private and the water is always cool.
The campsite has a fire ring, cooking grates, rotisserie, picnic table and a trash can. It is primitive camping with no outhouse (yet). There are 5 campsites on the property, spaced apart nicely to keep it private. Orkney Springs Outfitters provides lessons and guide services onsite and on surrounding waters from this location. This is a working farm, home to both Livestock Guardian Dogs as well as resident dogs, cats, rabbits, chickens, horses, goats and other various livestock. If you choose to bring your dog/s, please let us know when booking. You should NOT bring your dog/s if they are high-strung, overly sensitive, aggressive, or not trained. Our livestock guardian dogs are hard-wired to protect so if they sense an uncomfortable vibe from another dog, it will make them uncomfortable and they need to be focused on doing their jobs.
Safety, privacy and environmental impact is very important to us. We require a minimum of 50 feet between each campsite. Please contain all trash, human waste and canine waste and pack it out with you when you leave. Be kind to the areas in which you camp, as they are home to many wildlife, native trees/shrubs/plants and in some cases, food for horses and cows (hay fields).
Each site is provided a fire pit (upon request) and we sell firewood.

We are grateful for the opportunity to introduce country life and the Shenandoah Valley to travelers from around the world. We love animals, planting gardens, preserving quality food, and hiking in both of the world-famous national parks here.
We built an all-season full capacity hot shower bathhouse with flush toilet, A-frame cabin, bigger electrical service, and wider road entrance for 30ft RVs, and Wi-Fi.
We are located 45 minutes from the Shenandoah National Park. V's land was the perfect spot for our quick trip to Shenandoah! His instructions for getting there and what kind of vehicle needed were spot on and he was very communicative whenever I reached out. There was some firewood on site but I am not sure if it was left by last campers or him. We brought our own and used it as it recently rained when we camped. Beautiful fireplace and plenty of room to set up our tent, even though half of the area was a bit muddy from recent rain. It has a beautiful view of the sunrise in the morning and we were fortunate enough to wake up to snow our last morning there! Will definitely come back to this site if I get back to the area!

Weekend Trip to Arcadia Sanctuary
We had an absolutely incredible stay at this mountain yurt in Amherst, Virginia. We came in the winter months (because we’re a little crazy) and ended up getting stuck during a snowstorm — and somehow that made the whole experience even more unforgettable.
The hosts were beyond amazing. They went out of their way to make sure we were safe, comfortable, and taken care of the entire time. True hospitality. 11/10.
If you’re looking for peace, quiet, and a place to unplug and reset — this is it. Whether you want tranquility or you’re just trying to find yourself for a bit, this place delivers.
Also, we have to give a special shoutout to Buddy the dog, who kept us company and made the whole stay even better. Such a good boy and the perfect mountain host assistant.
And a big thank-you to the workers who helped us get out of the snow — we seriously appreciated the help more than you know.
Awesome place, awesome people, awesome experience. We’d recommend this stay to absolutely everyone.

This was an awesome camp experience! The pit toilet was spotless and checking in was easy. Adam was friendly and delivered some great firewood. There were a few thin, dead pines leaning precariously here and there, so I recommend scanning where you plan to set up your tent to avoid having one fall in the night or on a car (always a good idea anyway). Cool sculptures and artist vibe in the front and great proximity to Devil's Marbleyard!

We stayed for one night. We were booked at site 2, but Sydney let us move to site 1, which was larger and easier to level. The location is beautiful. Amazing views and very quiet. It’s a short drive to downtown Lexington, where we went for dinner. We were passing through, so didn’t do anything else. Sydney was quick to respond when we reached out. Would definitely stay again.

My husband, dog, and I had a great time car camping on Emmalyn's land. We arrived after dark, but it was still easy to navigate to the site. It is not too far from the highway, and we found it to be very quiet. It was a perfect stopover for our long drive!

As a repeat guest for 3 years now, Mane Gait Equestrian Center is one of our top favorites on Hipcamp. It is so beautiful & peaceful . Wide open sky for star gazing, surrounded by beautiful mountains in the distance. Hook-up is easy for Elec & water. Maybe a little un-level in spots for larger RVS but no complaints here ! This last stay; we booked an extra night to go hiking locally, visit Lexington and local breweries ! Many excellent trails to choose from & Natural Bridge State Park is worth the visit too!

My friend and I brought our pups up here for a night and can’t recommend it enough. The site is private, close to a few wineries/breweries, and has great views. Be sure to follow the 4WD guidance - we didn’t have to use it but I can see how rain a day or two before could make for an interesting drive up. The leaves this time of year also made it a bit slick. Overall, the campsite was exactly what we were hoping for and we’ll be back if camping in the area again!

Arrived after dark. The signage was not clear but quickly found a spot (open field) and set up camp. Didn’t download directions to Old Rag but found it quickly with directions from the lodge. Dinner buffet style at the lodge was fantastic. Overall a great camping adventure!!!
