We are a Nature Retreat bordering Nature Conservancy land along a tributary and up and down the Rappahannock River. You can hike along the stream down to the river and up and down the river. You can fish and float the river. There are no trails so a moderate level of fitness and comfort in the forest is needed. You can follow the water ways but it is wilderness. Camping there is primitive but available or you can camp or glamp at Earthwalk Ways Retreat. We are also adjacent to a 50 acre farm on the other side of the creek that is available for hiking. General Lee and his troops once camped here. But they cleaned up pretty good, so all you can really see is the old spring and wagon road. This is a working herb and small fruit farm. We have been experimenting with all kinds of exotic herbs and trees. Some make it, many don't. We sell dried herb teas. In addition we have 5 different kinds of bamboo. We use the bamboo for so many things. Camptown is our largest site. It features a large fire pit and a circular field that can accomodate 10 to 15 or more tents. You can also park smaller camper vans, teardrops, etc. in this large area. Good for parties, family reunions. The "# person" per site listing considers adults, not children... bring a whole crew of kids (try to have enough supervision - if there is such a concept!) The kids have such a great time out here... it is amazing. They love the labyrinth! By the way, that labryinth entrance is behind the kiosk. It's the largest of it's kind in North America. It seems like we made this place for the kids in ourselves and when actual kids see it they go wild. The last bunch were running and yelping with their picked flowers all round and round in the labyrinth for hours! Also, if you want peace and quiet we have beautiful remote campsites away from all the kids running around the labryinth whooping it up. (sites 4 - 6 - 8 - 9 - 10)

Learn more about this land: Nestle on the Pamunkey Indian Reservation also known for Spiritual Healing that overlooks the Pamunkey River. The Pamunkey people have been here for over 10,000 years making this area one of the oldest reservations in the country. We have a small platform sitting right on the water for privacy and beautiful views of the river. You may see Bald Eagles, Grey Herons, Ducks, Geese, River Otters, and so much more. During low tide, the water is pulled back into the main part of the river and this is where you will see the wildlife during this time. There are up to 8 Bald Eagles here at a time and during the Spring to Fall, you will see Osprey hunting for food right in front of you and usually getting chased by the Eagles. What an awesome site to be able to camp and be a part of so many creatures all in their natural habitat. We live right up the hill.  Depending on where your tent is located, you may or may not see our home.  Usually you cannot but want you to be aware.  When you are camping, we respect your space and privacy to the fullest. During the full moon, the water on the campsite will rise and you will need to camp closer to the land.  Also, when the tied is out, you will not be able to launch the canoe or kayak. There is a short path to walk and it is a very short incline.   Please note that hunting season starts in October, and you may hear the noise.

The Indian Rail Trail, Charles County's most exciting recreational trail, is just a 7-minute drive from your tent. This paved, 13-mile-long, ten-foot-wide path is an excellent excursion for bikers of all ages, connecting the small town of Indian Head on the Potomac River to White Plains. The fairly level trail takes riders through mature forests, natural wetlands, and some farmland. During your stay, you can also take a 10-minute walk through the forest on our property to visit a serene creek. Your Signature campsite accommodates up to 6-10 campers. The basic booking includes space for 4 campers, with 2 sleeping on the Queen Bed in the platform safari tent and 2 sleeping in bags on the floor. The site also features a picnic table, fire pit, and Adirondack chairs where you can relax and stargaze at night. Atlantic Kayak Company is a 20-minute drive from the site, offering kayak rentals and guided expeditions. For families, Sky Zone Trampoline Park is a fun activity less than a 10-minute drive from the campsite. A Walmart is conveniently located about 10 minutes away for any supplies you may need, and local produce can be obtained on Wednesdays and Saturdays at the La Plata Farmer's Market (12 min drive) between April and November. The Road To Serenity: Our road is a quaint old country farm road made of grass and a few gravel patches here and there. It is a bit of a bumpy ride, so take it slow and easy as you make your way to our hidden getaway. There is one sharp left turn over a culvert and some dips and mild inclines, so low-sitting vehicles should definitely take it slow. The road narrows as you get closer to the site, but there are reflectors along the way to keep you on the right path. We highly recommend arriving before dark. Parking: Parking is on the grass meadow between the entrance to the meadow and the walking path to the campsite. Reflectors are in place to outline the parking area. Avoid driving beyond the parking area and down steep inclines in the meadow, as softer ground presents a risk for getting stuck. A gorilla wagon is available in the parking area to help transport your belongings to the campsite. Toilet and Shower Set-up: There is a privacy tent that contains a toilet seat over a bucket. Place a bag with absorbent materials in the bucket for your biological needs. A portable automatic shower providing hot water is also available. Pets: For the safety of your pets, ensure that they are treated for ticks prior to camping. Be sure to check for ticks before bringing pets into the tent. Noises and Sounds: This property is located in a rural community, and campers may occasionally experience common city noises such as airplanes flying overhead, distant traffic, or distant firearm shots. It is a great site for city dwellers who enjoy tranquility but not complete silence.

The place is amazing! Me my wife and our fur baby loved everything about the place. It has a rustic vibe surrounded by farm animals and wild life! The only thing I would have changed was we didn’t stay long enough! The fresh eggs were amazing to have for breakfast, wish I would have got more than just a dozen. And Rodney, the host was such great guy. You have your own little private spot to just sit back and enjoy. We will definitely be coming back in the short future to see the horses, goats, and other animals again.

You can tell Donald is passionate about his land. We had an amazing time tent camping at Site 10. The site was extremely neat and tidy. Site 10 is perfect if you want an isolated camping experience. We will return! 4x4 vehicles recommended.

Weekend Trip to Reservation Camping on the Water!

I really enjoyed my stay here. It was exactly what I was looking. Peace and quiet (except for the thousands of geese, but their ruckus was peaceful as well). Allyn and Duane were wonderful hosts, ensuring I had everything I needed and the privacy I desired. There was a burn ban issued two days before my arrival and they graciously supplied me with charcoal and even a little charcoal grill! The sunsets were beautiful, the night sky amazing and the eagle sightings were plentiful! Bring binoculars if you come. You'll get amazing views. All in all, a wonderful trip and I plan on coming annually for the foreseeable future. Thanks Allyn and Duane! Oh, and opt in for the outdoor shower! It was amazing and the view incredible.

We really enjoyed our one night stay. Firewood and water provided was really nice. Fun to watch people sky diving from the small nearby airstrip. I’d recommend this campground.

This was a beautiful space and we had a great time. I’d recommend renting both sites. We loved walking to the river. The facilities were clean and a step up from the primitive camping we were expecting.

1 night at Earthwalk Ways Retreat

Darlene's land was a perfect hip camp. Usually my dogs and I hit the hay at nightfall, but Darlene's camp has an electric pole with a light, a screened tent with a table and chair, and an extra electric plug (recharge phones) - it was private and serene - plus Darlene was a FANTASTIC communicator, who meets you there to show you how the compostable toilet works, where to get firewood, etc. - then leaves you your privacy. Only a small disclaimer for travelers with dogs, IF you have a reactive dog (as one of mine is) there is quite a bit of wildlife noise in the woods. Highly recommend this hipcamp.

This was my second time coming to Donald's campsite and exploring the trails on the property, so needless to say I love it here. The bamboo cave is so cozy and special, and I so appreciate the firewood and jug of water that Donald provides. Plus, Donald is super communicative, so if you have any issues you'll be taken care of. Also: -There's a trail map at each campsite, so you can explore the property while visiting. -Convenient drive to all kinds of weekend exploring, from Shenandoah, to Lake Anna, to Prince William National Forest and plenty of breweries in between. I will definitely be back!
