116 acres of forrest, hills and dells. Miles of hiking trails marked and well maintained. A small pond and beautiful labyrinth. Over 50 acres of deep wilderness woods. General Lee and his troops once camped here. But they cleaned up pretty good, so all you can really see is the old spring and wagon road. This is a working herb and small fruit farm. We have been experimenting with all kinds of exotic herbs and trees. Some make it, many don't. We sell dried herb teas. In addition we have 5 different kinds of bamboo. We use the bamboo for so many things. Camptown is our largest site. It features a large fire pit and a circular field that can accomodate 10 to 15 or more tents. You can also park smaller camper vans, teardrops, etc. in this large area. Good for parties, family reunions. The "# person" per site listing considers adults, not children... bring a whole crew of kids (try to have enough supervision - if there is such a concept!) The kids have such a great time out here... it is amazing. They love the labyrinth! By the way, that labryinth entrance is behind the kiosk. It's the largest of it's kind in North America. It seems like we made this place for the kids in ourselves and when actual kids see it they go wild. The last bunch were running and yelping with their picked flowers all round and round in the labyrinth for hours! Also, if you want peace and quiet we have beautiful remote campsites away from all the kids running around the labryinth whooping it up. (sites 4 - 6 - 8 - 9 - 10)

The site is tucked deep into the pine woods. Very secluded. Space for several tents if needed. Perfect for a meditation weekend. In dry weather it can be reached by a vehicle - 4wd preferred. It's a hike to the bio toilets so bringing your own or using a field latrine is fine. The reason we call it Blue Mist is because there are groves of beautiful Blue Mist flowers in the late summer. The site is very isolated. This site is basically the only site on the East side of the property. The campsite is in the middle of a young pine forest. Park on the pipeline and we will drive you the site in our Kawasaki 4wd drive mule. One of our regular customers drives his BMW motorcycle right up to the site. This is fine. Or in wet conditions you could hike in - it's about a half to three quarters of a mile. The site has a fire pit and picnic bench that turns into a table and bench.

This site is quite isolated. In fact during the wet season it is only accessible via 4 wheel drive vehicle. The site is in a clearing of a mature oak forest, flanked by a stream. The site has a fire pit and picnic bench. It is suitable for two tents and approximately 4 people.

Site 6 Meadow overlook

This campsite borders the large green pipeline area that cuts through the state of Virginia and this property as well. You are basically on a hill looking over a valley that leads to a small stream below. We combined site 5 and 6 which means there are two tent camping areas under the forest canopy. This site as well as 7/8 are suitable for larger camping groups. These sites are also available for small groups or a single camper. These sites are isolated from all other campsites... so plenty of privacy. Tents can be pitched in clearings under the forest canopy or in the open area of the pipeline field. The site has a fire pit and picnic bench. It is the first site you reach from the back farm entrance. The road is solid clay and is usually passible by two wheel drive vehicles even in the rainy season. You can park right at your campsite. The site is good for tent camping or pull behind camper, or small / class B RV.

Site 8 Deer Run Hilltop

This site is on top of the second hill coming in from the pipeline entrance. You will cross a small stream via a narrow one lane culvert. In wet weather we recommend 4wd vehicles drive to this site. The hill road is clay and becomes slippery when wet. If this is the site you have booked and it becomes to too wet for your vehicle (2wd) you can park near the farm entrance and walk to the site or we can ride you and your equipment there in one of our 4wd vehicles. This campsite borders the large green pipeline area that cuts through the state of Virginia and this property as well. You are on the top of a second a hill looking over another valley. There are valleys on both the East and West of this site. Small streams run down the center of each valley. Tents can be pitched in clearings under the forest canopy or in the open area of the pipeline field. The site has a fire pit and picnic bench.

This site is tucked behind a grove of giant bamboo and next to a little stream. To get to the site you walk past one grove of thick-stem bamboo and cross a small wooden bridge over the stream. Parking is back near the kiosk. You can drive near the site and unload and then drive back to the parking area. The site has a fire pit and picnic bench. You will have easy access to the bio toilet in The Green or the bio toilet behind the "Little House on the Piedmont". Each is about the same distance, a short walk, away from this site.

Site 1 - The Green

Site 1 - The Green is a large green semi circle lawn with a bio toilet tucked in between a row of tall cedar trees. Plenty of room for an RV or tent camping. The site includes a picnic bench and fire pit. The farm firewood storage sheds are on one side and a bio toilet on another side. Easy access to the large labyrinth and the trail head to the pond trail. Opposite the green is a potato field and a row of Scarlet Goumi trees - very fragrant in Spring. This site is excellent for those who do not want to be way out in the wilderness. The site is close in to fun activities for kids and adults. (Labyrinth) It is not isolated, there could be an occasional tractor passing around one side of the Green.

This site is near the top of the third hill coming in from the pipeline entrance. You will cross a two small streams via narrow one lane culverts. In wet weather we recommend 4wd vehicles drive to this site. The hill road is clay and becomes slippery when wet. If this is the site you have booked and it becomes to too wet for your vehicle (2wd) you can park near the farm entrance and walk to the site or we can ride you and your equipment there in one of our 4wd vehicles. This site is a hillside meadow the backs against a grove of pines. It is one of our most remote and private campsites. It's on a hill between two streams and overlooks a valley where turkeys often congregate. Excellent for observing birds, wildflowers and butterflies. The site has a picnic bench that turns into a table and bench and a firepit.

Large green lawn in the middle of a meadow. Large fire pit surrounded by from 8 to 16 or more tents. There is a bio-toilet nearby nestled inside a bamboo grove. Campers can drive to the site, drop their gear and park in a area nearby - this keeps the "camp" vibe. Or if your group includes small RV's or popups, tear drop campers there is room for those as well if you don't mind that "vibe" it's totally up to you.

You can tell Donald is passionate about his land. We had an amazing time tent camping at Site 10. The site was extremely neat and tidy. Site 10 is perfect if you want an isolated camping experience. We will return! 4x4 vehicles recommended.

We really enjoyed our one night stay. Firewood and water provided was really nice. Fun to watch people sky diving from the small nearby airstrip. I’d recommend this campground.

Site 2 - Bamboo cave
This was my second time coming to Donald's campsite and exploring the trails on the property, so needless to say I love it here. The bamboo cave is so cozy and special, and I so appreciate the firewood and jug of water that Donald provides. Plus, Donald is super communicative, so if you have any issues you'll be taken care of. Also: -There's a trail map at each campsite, so you can explore the property while visiting. -Convenient drive to all kinds of weekend exploring, from Shenandoah, to Lake Anna, to Prince William National Forest and plenty of breweries in between. I will definitely be back!

Wonderful trails and a kind host. The space we camped in was nice and we really enjoyed the privacy and all of the trails for walking. The local noise was a negative : recycling facility, 3am drag racing, emergency vehicles,, etc. This is not the host’s fault, but I won’t come here for quiet again. I never did find the compost toilet or shower. The trails were not super well marked, although I appreciated the laminated map of the space. We also never found the “labyrinth,” but our walks to look for it were wonderful. The water provided was truly, wonderfully sweet!

This was our first time using Hipcamp and we really enjoyed ourselves. Donald provided all of the firewood and a full 5-gallon cooler of water for us, which was wonderful. The site we were at was definitely tucked in, so we didn’t see anyone else while we were there. You can tell Donald loves his property with all of the detail they put into laying out the sites, trails & the map of his place. Great experience for us as a family of 4 and our 2 dogs! ☺️

Camp Town
We had the best time! Opted to camp here instead of a crowded park on memorial day weekend. We had plenty of space and loved being able to explore. It was the perfect place for my dogs first camping trip and he loved being able to run around. We were able to watch lots of sky divers too which was so cool! Donald brought us firewood and water so we had one less thing to worry about. Would definitely camp here again.

I loved tent camping here! The hosts were very kind and provided water and firewood. The site was very private, quiet, and had plenty of space to put up multiple tents. Thank you so much for being wonderful hosts and making our trip so easy and relaxing! Would absolutely come back to this site when in the area again.

Our camping trip on Donald’s land was fantastic. The camping spots are far apart with much privacy, the land is beautiful and provides a calming hide away from bustling DC. Donald provided us with water and firewood and brought us extras as we ran out, he is very attentive to messages. Our dog loved roaming around and I personally loved walking in the maze. I can imagine it’s also the perfect spot for kids to run around and explore! Don’t hesitate to book if you are looking for a rustic and relaxing camping trip.

A great camping experience! The location of this site ensures you won’t have noisy camping neighbors ruining your trip. (Who hasn’t had a nightmare like that before?) We loved how private the site was and that there were so many trails to explore, and a really neat labyrinth. Site 9 Turkey Knob, gets lots of sun which makes it perfect for chilly weather. And while there is a forested part that provides shade and privacy, there is also open space which is ideal for stargazing. You can even walk a few paces and look at the stars from the wide open pipeline easement. Donald met us when we arrived and led us to the site where we found he had thoughtfully stocked valuable camping items: firewood, a large gatorade style cooler of water, and a trail map. He has crafted a wonderful campground and experience. One note to small vehicle owners, while the dirt roads to this site were dry and traction was perfect, a small vehicle will bottom out in some areas and there is no way to avoid it. Our Prius came away with some undercarriage damage. 100% our fault. Don’t repeat our foolery. Borrow an SUV or truck, something that sits up high, or be level headed and take Donald up on his offer to drive you in. If you want to easily drive your small vehicle right up to a site, the Salamander site has a similar forrest & open space design. That site provides privacy too, but it is closer to Donald’s place and other campers, some people might be more relaxed knowing they are close-ish to others.

This was such a lovely spot for me and my dog to camp. The site (Bamboo Cave - #2) is secluded and offers full privacy--you really do feel like you're in a cave of sorts! Loved the trail options for morning walks, and exploring the property felt like I was on a frontier home. Appreciated the compost toilets as well! Donald has made this a very welcoming, safe campground for families (I saw a few there while I was camping) and solo travelers like me. The amenities are great for beginning campers or for well-seasoned campers who just want a quick getaway from the city. Only observation I'd note is that it's next to a private airport and busy road, so you'll hear plane and car traffic.

Site 3 - Salamander Loop
The site is quiet and pitches are far enough apart that it was possible to feel alone. It was perfectly clean. Water was provided on site, but the toilet block was a good distance away. There was a great feeling of being alone in the woods. The chief problem is that the site is hard to find, since there is no sign at the entrance, the address is not listed on Hipcamp, and it is also hard to read street numbers at 60mph in traffic.

We had a great time at Donald's! It was very nice to have the water and firewood, along with the refills. The kids enjoyed running around with the other kids who were camping and investigating the woods, and our dog loved it too!

Overall we had a great time! Donald was a good host, the site had a picnic table, was well stocked with firewood and water, and he provided a map of the property. The camp shower was refreshing though a bit of a walk from our site, dogs could roam freely, and lake orange was a five minute drive. The unfortunate part was ticks and poison ivy. Definitely need to wear pants and long sleeves. And be prepared to bath your dogs in flea and tick shampoo (found ~20 each dog, frontline had been applied 3 weeks ago). Might consider leaving them home. Poison ivy was through out the property, around our site, and on the trails. My son and I got it, the rest of the family seems ok. That said I’m not sure what can be done about ticks and poison ivy so I don’t fault the host.

It was secluded but not far from the entrance. Fire wood and fresh water was ready for us. They had a drip shower that came in handy for the hot days . Other than the ticks and poison ivy, it was a good stay!

Great stay at site 6. A little road noise, but nothing that was disruptive. Nice shaded spot. Short walk to the composting toilet. We enjoyed the Labyrinth and the other trails. Would definitely recommend.

This place was great and just what we were looking for. We had a large site that was private and peaceful. Plenty of trails and space to hike on and the stars and fireflies at night made for a beautiful show. We didn’t explore the whole property as much as we could have but it gives us plenty of reason to come back for another weekend. Thanks again Donald for the wonderful experience.

Great site! Bamboo site was very cool and cave like. Birds roosting at sundown was a treat! Site was very clean and trails were clear - but we did see a few ticks so prepare your gear. Loved the firewood included - we used plenty on a rainy weekend.
